Jean - Just to clarify, since posting my earlier inquiries I have found that the James Houston in my family line married Sarah Kendrick in Bourbon County, Kentucky on 1 Sep 1805. He was born in Sussex County, Delaware about 1780, the son of Purnell Houston and Mary Tomlinson. I was unable to find out anything about the James Huston/Houston and Jane Eckles who married in Fayette County, KY on 1 Dec 1807.

Does anyone have more information on the Jane Eckles and James Huston (Houston) who married in Fayette County, Kentucky, 1 Dec 1807?

I am a descendant of the Charles Eckles who married Nancy Boyd there in 1816. In my current research I am trying to see if several people of the Eckles surname (and its many spelling variations) in Fayette and Scott Counties are a family group, including Jane.

Hello,
I am looking for a James Huston who was living in Boone Co., KY in the year 1826. One of his daughters married Jeremiah Slayden/Slayton and I am trying to identify her. She was a widow after the year 1826 and probably remarried after that. Any leads will be greatly appreciated.
Kathryn
geno@wt.net

dale, Thank you for your speedy reply. The Huston family I am related to, did go to Philadelphia, Different families at different times from Ireland. One in particular was Elizabeth Young Huston and owned a department store in Chestnuthill Philidelphia. Her sister Margaret joined her there and died there. They seemed to go back and forth so it is hard to trace. There are lots of Huston's as they all had large families. My Grandfather was Hugh Henderson Huston or Houston married to Matilda Jane Mccarroll from Ireland. Thank you for your interest. Ellen

Re: HUSTON - RAMSEY Connection

Hi! My family came from Tildarg, Ireland. At this time I'm not sure where in Northern Ireland, Tildarg is located, but he came over sometime around 1768, I think. The reason I'm responding is that the early Huston's who came to Bucks County, Pa., were married to and related to the Ramseys, back in Ireland. Hugh Huston married a Jane (Ramsey) Mears in 1732, who came to America with her husband (Mears) and her brother
William Ramsey around 1726. My ancestor came to Bucks Cty and started in business with his Uncle, Hugh Ramsey, around 1768. So it appears the Ramsey family and Huston's go way back. I don't know if there is any connection to your family...Dale

I have been researching my ancestors line of Thomas J Huston and his line in the Braceville area. Thoma Huston's daughter Dortha married Archibald McArthur, Dortha's mother Drucilla Martin Huston died Jan 4, 1874 and wasburied in the Braceville-Gardner area, and Dortha is buried somewhere there too, she also died in 1874 on December 28. People who were buried in the 1870's there, do you know which cemetery they would have been buried in. The Braceville-Gardner cemetery was established in the 1880's, I am trying to locate their grave markers. DonnaHeuer/Eureka California

From what I understand my tree has a William and a Robert in every generation dating back as far as the 15th century in Ireland. My Great uncle Chet was the last one with our family Bible that has our alleged family tree. I haven't seen it. We are from grundy Co. IL and I know there is a Robert from Braceville, IL that was a P.O.W. during the Civil War where he lost a leg. He was a teacher, built the first framed house in Braceville, and single handedly prevented serious bloodshed during the early coal mining era in IL. There was even a write up about him in the Joliet Daily Herald around 1994.

Thomas Huston was born about 1825-1826 in Ballymena, Antrim, the son of Hugh and Ann Huston. He emigrated to Ontario, Canada as a young man where he married Hannah Southwell. He was later Town Clerk of Whitby, Ontario and it is his signature that appears on the later 1800 BMD registrations for that area.

I'm looking for information about his parents, siblings and hopefully a definite birthdate for him.

Can anyone help?

I have been searching for years for Eleanor Hustons parents. Thank you so much for informing me. I even tried to decipher old census records for Eleanor's parents , but they only listed children male or female with no names. I could never figure who might have been her father. Thanks again. How did you ever search out her father as John C Huston. He was one of the possibilities I considered. Do you have any other Huston info even if its small I can have. I would be interested in the McQueens also. What do you know about the Dillon Family. For years everyone had Eleanor Huston's husband John L Dillon's parents as Henry Dillon and Anna Leeper. Now I see on Rootsweb researchers are saying John L Dillon's father was a Peter Dillon? Do you know what thats about. I may need to correct my notes. Thanks Madeline and Warren

Re: Eleanor Huston

I have recently come into the possession of copies of John c. Huston's family Bible. It solved and answered questions for many. I had not even had all the names of the children even though I was aware that there were several from the census. Eleanor was the oldest. I had suspected she belonged to John C. & Nancy because of the mother's maiden name and the location of these family groups. They were very clannish! this is a case where knowing the area and the names associated with it, is very helpful.

I know from records that John C. Huston was the Justice of the Peace in Harrison Co. and maybe Carroll Co. Ohio in the early 1800's. I think he and Eleanor may have come into Ohio shortly after they were married. They came from Washington Co. PA. Good luck sorting through the Huston's there!!! The Bible lists a Benjamin F. Huston d. 1841. I believe this is John C's father. No other information was given, nor was a location. John C. & Eleanor probably came here either because Eleanor's family was already in the process of moving here or some other relative was. Dillon's included, all roads lead to Washington Co. PA for this group, McQueen's, Dillon's, Huston's, Robinson's, Cunningham's. I think you get the picture. They are all Scots or Scotch-Irish. They all settled in the Tuscarawas, Harrison, Carroll Co. area. They didn't move as much as the counties moved and evolved around them.

As to John L. Dillon, stay with the Henry and Ann Leeper Dillon until someone can send you or hand you a legal document that says otherwise. Why, because the Henry Dillon family is one that is connected (blood & location wise) in a couple lines to the McQueen's and the rest of the group mentioned above and second because there are a lot of people out there these days that are just lumping people together because it is easier than doing real research. Even some of the LDS members do not seem to be above this, as I have found some of my ancestors connected to the wrong lines and SEALED to the church!!!! It would be a real surprise for some of them to find out they were supposed to have had that child!!

Also on John L. Dillon, he is supposed to be the brother of Jane Dillon who was married to Amon McQueen, James Dillon that married Rachel McQueen and William who married Sarah Scott, all from the Carroll Co. Ohio area. They all ended up in Vinton Co. Ohio. There is one more sister but I don't have anything on her. Henry Dillon was living with his daughter Jane McQueen on the 1860 census. If I recall the census taker did not list Jane's name as Jane or at least it is not indexed as Jane, James instead.

Please contact me on my email so I may send you additional information.
Jane
