Obituary of Dr. Lucius L. Hutchens, Illinois

I recently obtained numerous newpaper articles from various counties in Illinois. Unfortunately most of them do not have dates (likely the 1960s).

"The Flora community suffered a great loss with the death of a noted physician, Dr. L.L. Hutchens. He died July 3 in Clay County Hospital.

The doctor was a member of the American Medical Association, and had practiced in Flora for 43 years. A native of White Hall, Dr. Hutchens was a Captain in the Medical Corps of WWII, where he served 4 1/2 years. He was a member of the First Methodist Church, Flora Elks Club, American Legion, VFW, Masonic Lodge, and Consistory Shrine.

He is survived by his wife, Nedra; a son, John William, and a daughter, Mrs. Martha Ober, both of Flora; two sisters, Miss Beulah Hutchens, Olney, and Miss Florence Hutchens, White Hall; and four grandsons and four granddaughters.

Burial in Elmwood Cemetery."

Randy
Webster, Texas

My grandfather is the late Alfred (Bud) Hutchens who's mother was from S. Carolina . He were born in 1855. Alfred married Margaret Jane Thacker in 1878. I want to know if anyone knows their parents's. Some of their children were Coleman, Jess, Ada, Georgia, James, & William . My father and mother are the late James Hutchens and Betty Holmes Hutchins. Most of my family lived in Georgia around Plainsville and Rome, in Gordon, Bartow, and Floyd county. I still have relatives there in Floyd county, but I am interested in learning more about my grandparents on both sides. My mother's parents were Arthur Holmes and Minnie B. Rudd. Arthur was born in 1875. They were married in 1899 in Floyd County. They were from the Adairsville, Ga. and the Rome, Georgia area. I want to know more about my grandfather/ great grandfather (Arthur Holmes's parents. If any one knows about any of these families, I'd appreciate hearing from you.

There are three books written by Rita Townsend about the Hutchens --descendents of Strangeman. We are working on the same line -- please contact ne at PKelley1938@msn.com and I will share my info... I am also related to the Shumate family, the Kelley family, the Chandler Family, the Winn family -- all of the same area in AR, and in Washington County. My grandmother was a Hutchens -- in fact both my grand fathers wives were Hutchens. Rita's son in law is working on the Hutchens info too and I will be glad to send that info also. Aloha, Pat Kelley

My great grandfather was Andrew Jackson Casher and his father Allen Casher; however, we think that Andrew's parents simply used Cash when he was small as we have a census which appears to be him. He married Adaline Levenia Hutchins; in the lineage and cousins we have from her siblings, all spell their names with an e as in Hutchens.

Adaline was born in Mississippi and had siblings Elisa, Robert M (who died in 1861 in the civil war), Noah, Ward G.V., and Josephus.

Does this sound remotely like anyone you are seeking information on?

Re: Littleberry Hutchens(ins)

I show Littleberry Hutchins, born 6 Jan 1807, married to Sarah P. Burford, born 7 Jun 1700, on 22 Nov 1827. I do not show any previous marriage. Other Littleberry's may be the answer to some of those other children mentioned. Littleberry and Sarah had either 6 or 7 children: Martha Jane (married Hector McCormack), Mary M. (married Matt Owen), John Hunter (married Cynthia Emaline Neal), N. D. Hutchins (died as an infant), Sarah Ann (married J. C. Langford), Elizabeth R. "Roxie" (married T. J. Odell). The mysterious extra child is Norman who died in the Civil War. I have not yet established if this was actually their child, or if N. D. mentioned above did not actually die as an infant and is actually this individual. Or who knows what other answer. Norman appears on a handwritten note of Littleberry's family that was written by his brother's granddaughter. Any help with that would be appreciated.

Rosemary

Marriage of Hugh Hutchens to Miss Jessie Marguerite Looney - February 1906

Appears in "The Tishomingo News" 21 February 1906 Johnston County, Indian Territory, Oklahoma

HUTCHENS – LOONEY NUPTIALS

One of the prettiest home weddings that has occurred in the city this season was consummated this afternoon at 2 o’clock at the residence of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. James E. Looney, on North Washington Street, when Mr. Hutchens and Miss Jessie Marguerite Looney were united in marriage, Rev. H. H. Watson of the Broadway Methodist Church officiating.

A hundred invitations has been mailed and a host of friends were present to witness the pretty ceremony. The parlors of the home were filled with flowers and evergreens, which formed a beautiful background to the bride and groom as was read to them the oft-spoken words which made them one.

For weeks past the bride has been receiving handsome wedding presents and the tables in the parlors of the Looney home were laden this afternoon with rich gifts and dainty remembrances from friends of the contracting parties.

Miss Looney formerly lived at Tishomingo and some fifty persons from that place and a number from Oklahoma City and Purcell were present.

The bride is a charming young lady, who in the short she has been here has made a number of friends who wish the young couple happiness through life.

The groom is a successful merchant of Tishomingo, where he is engaged in the dry goods business. His sterling character and integrity have won for him many friends, as well as a share of this world’s goods.

The young couple left this afternoon for Tishomingo, but will only remain there a short while, when they will go on a honeymoon trip to points in Texas, when then will be at home to their friends on South Broadway, Tishomingo. Ardmorite, February 15

The happy couple arrived in the city on the afternoon train Thursday, and were met at the depot by a large crowd of friends, and as they stepped off the train they were greeted with a shower of rice and old shoes. The wedding was no surprise here, as it has been known for some time that they would wed.

Hugh Hutchens is one of our most prominent merchants, an honorable gentleman in every respect and a good business man, and is well liked by his many friends. He has chosen well in the selection of a bride. We have known Miss Jessie Looney from childhood, and all her relations. She comes from a family in Southern Illinois that stands high in social, fraternal and religious circles. Her ancestors are of the very best people of Illinois. She is an accomplished and refined lady in every respect, and will make her husband a true and loving helpmate through life. The bride lived in Tishomingo for about three years and has many dear friends here who wish herself and husband much prosperity and happiness on their voyage over the matrimonial sea.

The bride and groom were the recipients of many handsome and valuable presents.

The News extends to Mr. and Mrs. Hutchens its best wishes for their happiness and prosperity.
If you have information to the parents of John Boyd Hutchens, particularly his father, please contact me at ddpoore@surry.net. John is my ggrandfather and in researching this, I have found that his fathers name is William however I can find no information beyond that. I have even checked in The Descendants of Strangeman Hutchens/Hutchins, and it stops with William.

Looking for information on Homer Hutchins married to Willie Rutherford(Releford), they had a son named Calvin. I found them in the 1910 census but could not find them in the other years.
