Hello Debbie
This is very interesting. I have two Henry Hutt's in my family tree and both lived in Tetsworth. However the elder, a farmer, was born in 1827 and the younger in 1855. I have checked the 1871 census and both were living on Hutt's Farm in Tetsworth at the time.
The Hutts were a large family in the area it seems and they tend to reuse traditional family names.
How much of your husbands ancestry do you know? Is he connected to the Tetsworth area?
Wendy

ALICE JANE HOW

Born c1856 married ARTHUR ROLLS HUTT born c1856 0n 8th October 1879 in The Parish Church Stepney (probably St Dunstan’s Church ). The marriage certificate states that Arthur was a mariner.

Alice Jane Hutt (nee How) tells a “porkie”
I quote from her passport application I came across
“I married my husband Arthur R Hutt, a American Citizen, in Paris, France , he being abroad in connection with European Edition of the New York Herald. He is still so connected. I have two sons residing in the U>S. and also a son a Vice-Consul of the U.S. at Bordeaux
I have a number of relatives residing in the United States”

References were given as:
Mr A.E. Hutt, 2 New St, Halycon Park, New Rochelle N.Y.
Mr J, Hamilton, 332 Convent Avenue N.Y. City

Date of Passport Application 27.06.1918

ARTHUR ROLLS HUTT

I quote from the Passport Application I came across:
“I came abroad in 1897 as captain of the late Mr James Gordon Bennett’s yacht. I became connected with the European Edition of the New York Herald and have been engaged so since that date, as per letter attached here to and other documents submitted.

My son is Vice Consul General of the United States at Bordeaux France.”

Comment from Embassy Official:
“It is not believed tat Mr Hutt has any such intention of not returning to the United States for permanent residence”

A note from the Editor in Charge New York Herald:

“This is to certify that Mr A.R. Hutt has been employed for many years on the editorial and business staffs of the New York Herald European Edition”,
Signed Brian Prior - Editor-in-Charge

The actual passport application is dated 04-06-1918

Any further help regarding the above family would be greatly appreciated. Alice Jane Hutt (nee How) was my Great Aunt.
Thank you Elizabeth Howw

Hi folks,
Does anyone know of a Henry Hutt, born abt 1845 in Tetsworth (listed as Oxfordshire in 1871).

I'm researching my Mum's side of the family (Parker/Insull/Hughes) and as part of the 1871 census the Hughes family in Dudley had Henry Hutt as a lodger.

The strange co-incidence is that I am now married to a Hutt and just plain curious about whether he is attached in some way to my husband's family!

Thank you!
Debbie

There were and currently are a large population of the Hutt family living on Tancook Island in Nova Scotia. Going to the Tancook Island history I found that Johannes Hutt-Hatt arrived in Halifax on the Ship "Speedwell" in 1751. He was born in Hemmenthal, Shaffhausen Canton, Switzerland in 1737. There is a strong possibility that any Hutt's living in Nova Scotia are descendants from Johannes. Happy hunting and good luck.

I'm doing the genealogy of my children's family. My ex-sister-in-law has Adam Hutt (born 1762) and Dorothea Ball born (1762) having Mary Hutt born 1785. She married Abraham James Clendennan who had Nelson Adam Clendennan who had Georgiana Radclife Clendennan who married James McCormick who had Frank McCormick who had Calvin McCormick who was my children's grandfather. When I suggest there was a Mary Hutt born to Adam and Dorothea there are genealogists on line who are puzzled. I'm looking for confirmation. This family moved to New York State.
Jerri. If you're looking for Hutts in Scotland then the majority come from Fife. I live in Scotland but originate from Surrey. My family started in Warwickshire, moved to Bethnal Green (E. London) around 1810 and then out to Lambeth (Surrey) around the turn of the 20th Century.

Are you sure "Dunder"?...

I think one of the main reasons with left Canada was their puposeful mispelling of our names on the record books.

I'm not sure yet about Francis, but he appears to have had several other brothers, all born in France.

I am descended of a James E. Hutte (1837-1893), who is thought to have been born in Canada, but we're not sure if it was Ontario or Quebec; I think that his fathers name, though, was either John or Francis, since his eldest son's name was John Francis. But they moved to New York in about 1878, and then to Sonoma, California in 1880.

We are not related to James Hagar Hutt of Los Angeles, or James Erastus Hutt of Ontario; but possibly Peter Hutty of Toronto.

My line is thru Mary Ann Hutt - she married Joseph Abbott and they had several children, my line is thru Fanny, she married a Pearson, her daughter then married a Henderson and so on...its my maternal line.

The 1861 census entry is on ancestry. Thomas was born in South Moor, Berkshire c1831 and Emma was born Northmoor, Oxfordshire c1831. They had several children in NZ. I know of Emily Elizabeth, Ellen Eliza, Arthur James, Eliza Alice, Grace Emily, Joseph Thomas, William Richard and James Herbert. Theres also a mention of a first child named Mara being born in 1851. I have no idea how accurate all of this is.

I was thinking of trying to locate a marriage certificate for Emma and Thomas, but I have found no record of any such marriage yet and in fact they seem to have just up and appeared in the UK in 1861 as I can find neither on the 1851 census, whether they were married then or not. I am wondering if perhaps they werent christian and hence thats why I cant find them in parish records......thats my latest theory anyway!!

Cheers
Ali

Hi Nicki,
Kathryn has told me about your branch of the family - it is very interesting. I'd love to know where John Hutt the Blacksmith was born - we suspect London as he married Sarah Bacon there and he had a nephew William Hutt who was born in Bow Lane, City, but we can't really be sure as we don't know who his parents were.
I'd also love to find Hutt family photos and any Australian relatives (my great uncle John emigrated after WWI with his wife Hilda).
All the best with your searching,
Janeen

Hi Denise,
nice to hear from you - my daughter has exchanged info with Paul Barton who is descended from the same line as us through John Hutt, Blacksmith of Loughton, Essex, England, born circa 1800 (we think possibly in London). I haven't found any connection to your Hutts so far, but it is not as unusual a name as we first thought (there are hardly any Hutts up here in Lancashire - the ones I've met have been relatives!), but further research may prove a common link if we can get back far enough.

My mother was a Hutt (Gladys), and her father was Ernest Roland Hutt born in Loughton, Essex in 1897. I am hoping to trace descendants of his brother John, (known as Jack), and his wife Hilda who emigrated to Australia after WWI.

Good luck in your family search,
Janeen

I wondered if you had since found any more info on this family - I have them on the 1861 census but otherwise they dont pop up in any of the marriage records I've searched or in any prior census. Emma and Thomas are my 5xgreat grandparents (coming down thru the Abbott line)

Alison
