AUSTINTOWN - Richard E. Kieffer, 82, passed away unexpectedly Thursday evening, Oct. 13, 2011, at University Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.
Richard was born Sept. 30, 1929, in Youngstown, Ohio a son of the late Louis and Anna Hvizdak Kieffer, and was a lifelong area resident.
He was a 1947 graduate of Chaney High School and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
Richard worked as a driver/salesman for Wonder Bread and for Hostess Cakes on Mahoning Avenue for 30 years, retiring in the mid-1980s.
Mr. Kieffer was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Austintown, where he was a member of the Men’s Club, the choir, and served on the church council.
He was an avid sports enthusiast and coached baseball in the Austintown Colt and Pony Leagues from 1963 through 1973.
Richard was a fan of the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians, and enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends.
He leaves his beloved wife, Wilma Stricklin Kieffer, whom he married Jan. 10, 1953; four sons, David T. (JoEllen) Kieffer of Boardman, Ohio, Richard L. Kieffer of Bellefonte, Pa., Jeffrey W. (Marianne) Kieffer of Dublin, and Mark A. (Jean) Kieffer of New Palestine, Indiana; nine grandchildren, Alyson, Andrew, Jacob, Joshua, Jesse, Emily, John, Samuel, and Ashley; and a sister, Martha (George) Antal of Valencia, N.Y.
Richard will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Two sisters, Ann Streiner and Mary Kocan, are deceased.
Family and friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 16, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown.
Family and friends may also call from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 17, at Grace Lutheran Church, 162 S Raccoon Road, Austintown, Ohio where funeral services will follow at 11 a.m.
Memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s name to the Grace Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
