My grandfather grew up where the Grammercy Vacherie bridge is now. It was once called Wallace.

My aunt has done much of the leg work on our tree and she found Claire Barre's name to be Marie Clarisse Barre. Does your information line up with that?

Hey! Another Hymel! Well my family is originally from Louisiana, right now we are in the buckeye state.
If you are a Hymel, your roots may lie in Germany and England. Our last name comes from the German word Himmel, which means Heaven. Once immigrating to America, the Americans changed it to Hymel. We mainly stayed in Louisiana but we moved around a bit, so if that's any help.

I found Willie Dugas married Bertha Guidry Jan. 26, 1899 in St. James Parish, La.
Willie Dugas and family are living in Jefferson Parish, La in 1920 Census, he is laborer for Bridge gang.

Where were the chidren born, I know that Ida and Leah Dugas were born in St. James Parish, what about the other children

Willie was married twice. First to a woman named Bertha. I don't have her last name. Their children were: Ida born 1902;
Leah born 1906; and Bertha born 1911.

His second wife was Stella Mary Brignac. She was born 1891 in Paulina, Louisiana and died March 6, 1969. Willie and Stella's children were: Anna Marie Dugas born 1913 and died 2000; Tobias Dugas born 1916; Clovis Dugas born Sep 2 1918 and died May 29 1991; Ethel Rita Dugas born 28 Nov 1919 and died Jul 4 1987; and Willie Dugas Jr. born about 1922.

I forgot to give you the parents of Placide Hymel's wife Virginie Pertuit, they were Paul Pertuit, do not have any birth or death for him, he married Marie Louise Michel July 30, 1792 in St. James Parish, La. Louise Michel born eb. 24, 1774 in Edgard St. John Baptist Parish, no death date.

Zulma Hymel [Himel] had a sister Emeline Hymel born about 1835 in St. James Parish, La, married Louis Duhon born Apr. 1, 1827 St. James Parish, La. They married Sep. 30, 1856 St. James Parish La.

Zulma Hymel's brother Theophile Hymel born abt 1841 in St. James Parish, La. Do not have any other information on him

Zulma Hymel's sister Odile Hymel born about 1838 St. James Parish, La. married Lucien or Pucien Thibodeaux, married June 6, 1857 in St. James Parish, La.

Zulma Hymel's Father Placide Hymel was the son of Sebastian Hymel Jr, born May 25, 1780 in St. Charles Parish, La., died May 24, 1848 in St. James Parish La. married Nov. 24, 1805 in Edgard St. John Baptiste to second wife Felicite Elfer, born July 2, 1785 in Edgard St. John Baptiste Parish, La. Felicite Elfer would be Placide Hymel's mother. I do not know when Felicite died.

I dont know who Louis Dugas parent were, I found ihim in 1850 St. James Parish, La. Census, he was a Apprentice for a druggist at age 13 years old. he was born about 1839. I will list the children for Louis Dugas and Zulma Hymel, all born in St. James Parish, La. My source is St. James Parish, La. Census.

Denise i also have in my records that Philogine Hymel Jr., born abt 1893 in St. Charles Parish La., married Dec. 19, 1918 to Julia Zirkenbach, she was born about 1891. Philogene Hymel Sr. and Arthur Hymel Jr. also had a brother named Paul Hymel and a brother named Joseph Hymel, Joseph Hymel died at a very young age.

Your great grandfather Philogene Hymel Jr, was son of Philogene Hymel Sr., born about 1859.and Heloise Nicolas, born about 1869 St. Charles Parish, La. Your great great grandfather Philogene Hymel Sr was a brother to my grandfather Arthur Hymel Jr., they were the children of Arthur Hymel Sr and Elvina Champagne. I would love to share information i have and would very much like to have information on your great granfather Philogene Hymel Jr., i do know he had a sister Alvina Hymel who married Rosalus Champagne and and he also had a sister Exaltine Hymel. Antonise and various other Hymels

My gg grandmother was Antonise Hymel, wife of Francois St. Pe'. She had to have been born in the early 1800s. Some date my great grandfather's birth in 1848 or 1850. If my father is correct that his father was 50 when he was born and his grandfather was 50 when his father was born, that would put his birth as far back as 1838, which would mean Antonise was born sometime before 1814 or 1815.

I have other Hymels that are related to my family if not to me directly...
Sydney Hymel b. October 16, 1891 in Vacherie, LA., d. January 26, 1956 in Luling, LA.
He married Helene Cleona Esneault and they had 4 children:
Jules Joseph Hymel
Loyda Mary Hymel
Marc Antony Hymel
Marie Ann Hymel

Helene Cleona Esneault was the dau. of Jules Maxililien Esneault and Laura Bienvenu married October 01, 1884. Helene was the 7th of 8 children born to them. I have more on their ancestry, but sadly lack any ancestors of Sydney Hymel. It would be nice to link them up to Antonise Hymel, somehow.

I also have a Marie Adele Hymel that married Florian A. Tassin and gave birth to Edmonia Marie Tassin about 1872.
I have a number of Edmonia's descendants, but none of her grandparents.

We have quite a few Hymel's in our tree, but don't recognize any of those names. Our Hymel's came from Louisiana and Arcadia, but originated in Germany. The name was originally Immel, but got changed when moved to America. Check out our file at www.gencircles.com (then do search on Hymel).

HI: My name is Denise, and I am the great grandaughter of Philogene Hymel. I am researching my history on my father's side. I Started 3 days ago. My fathers name was Elden and he was the only child of Philogene and Julia. I understand that he was a native of Hanville, and had a sister named Evlina Hymel Champagene. It seems that she lived in Luling. She died January 29,1989 at the age of 93. I have an original copy of her death noticeIIn checking things out it seems that he also had a brother named Paul. Claire Octavie'Himel [Hymel] mother was Claire Barre, born Aug 5, 1783 in Edgard, St. John the Baptiste Parish, she died 1832 in Edgard., La. Andre Himel and Claire Barre married November 22, 1804 in Edgard, La. Claire Barre's parents were Jean Baptist Eugene Barre and Marie Bossie
Andre Hymel 2nd and Claire Barre had 13 children, one of them Claire Octavie who married Felix Webre abt 1835, Felix Webre was the son of Lucien Webre and Marie Marcelline Troxler.
Children of Claire Octavie Hymel and Felix Webre were Isais Webre who married Marie Corinne Barre abt 1867
Marie Lezine Webre who married Joseph Edward Roussel abt 1867. Joseph Roussel was the son pf Pierre Roussel and Claire Adelaide Jacob.

Andre Himel [Hymel] Sr was the son of David Himel and Marianne Schantz.

where do i come from

i'm just woundering wherei come from. i was born in baton rouge la. my fathers name is timothy clark hymel who resides in denham springs la. his fathers name was auther francis hymel II .(i think) because my dad's older brother is named auther francis hymel III. suposedlly my middle name and my father's comes from my grandfather's uncle.my fathers youngest brother was named tommy hymel. i know my father grew up in baker la, but i think his father was from st. gabriel . i know for a fact that my grand father helped build the first mississippi bridge, i have the picture. i just want to know for sure who and where i came from.
