Hello,
it seems that Bob and Gaby both are distantly related to me. I have one of Andrews ancestry lines back to the 1600s and also several thousand relatives of other lines to share. Please contact me to exchange information.

Thanks a lot in advance,
Marco Born

Gaby,

I don't think you owe me any info. Your last email stated that you were in a hurry to go somewhere, but did not indicate there was more to come. My last email to you dealt with a short visit I had to Colonge and inquired if you were interested in any photos of my trip to Germany in 1963.

I would like to keep in touch with you so that we can stay aware of the current activities of our distant families.

I did make contact with a person who has information about Andrew Iffland's wife (Mary Horrigan)and her ancestry if that is of interest to you.

Bob Berner

Hello,
Thank you for your information. This is new data to me and opens up a new channel. Mary Horrigan was my grandmother and mother of Julia C.(Iffland)Berner, my mother. I know very little about her ancestry on her mother's side. I do recall as a youngster (~1949) riding a Greyhound bus to New Richmond to visit one of her cousins, but do not recall the cousins name. There was also a cousin or aunt who survived into her 90's who shared many letters with my mother, but those letters have been lost. She had an outstanding memory of events that occured in the early 1900's. I will try to find her letters if they still exist.

Does the name Flatley fit in? I have a photo of a Flatley family reunion but do not know who they are. I think the photo was taken in New Paris Ohio.

If I can help you with any information concerning the Iffland/Berner geneology please feel free to contact me at any time. I have information and some photos on the Iffland family back to the 1700's.

Robert A. Berner

Mary Horrigan is the daughter of Patrick Horrigan who was born in Ireland 1850 and grew up in Preble County, Ohio. His parents are Thomas and Catharine Mungavin Horrigan. See Patrick census records for Preble County for 1860 when he lived with his parents. ALso go to the Eaton, Preble County library site and you will find Patrick's marriage licence and obituary in 1932 with Mary Iffland's name as his daughter. I have no idea how Mary ended up in Tenn. as her brothers and sisters seem grounded in Ohio, especially Preble County. Patrick, the father is buried in Old Saint John cemetery in New Paris, Preble Co. which you can find on findagrave.com.

Hi Mal,
Saw your posting re NZ connection for Iffland. I'm looking for possible photo/info of Eva Yanz who was my GG grandmother. Her daughter, Gwenda, (my grandmother) lived in Petone in Queen street. There is a photo of Clara Iffland (Eva's mother)kindly posted on Ancestry. I believe Eva died quite young. She married Owen Price Roberts, a welshman, and had two children including Gwenda and Llewellyn Alfred. The children were brought up by their Aunts Ria, Clara and Addie.
So hope anyone also redaing this can help.
Kind regards
David

Hi Dorothy

Season's greetings!

Not sure what information you have about the Ifflands, but I'm happy for you to look at my Ancestry.com.au page and see if it adds to whatever information you have. I'd just need your email address to send you an invitation to access my page, if that's not a problem.

Others here in Australia have probably conducted a lot more research on this particular family than I have, but I've happily borrowed from Ancestry whatever they've done and updated my page. It must be about 15 years ago that we had a largish gathering here in Sydney of Iffland descendants and related German families from that 1850s migration program.

The NZ connection is interesting. I'd be interested to know why and when Maria went there. I haven't added her to my tree, yet. If you'd like to provide some information about her on my page, please go ahead. I think you can do it under the "Comment" function.

Regards,

Mal Jones

My name is Robert Berner and I currently reside in Stafford Virginia. I was born and raised in Cincinnati,Ohio. My grandfather was Andrew Iffland who died in 1962. He married Mary Horrigan in 1905 and had 2 children, Julia Catherine Iffland my mother and a brother, Andrew, that I know almost nothing about. My mother was born on December 13,1910 and passed away on October 27, 2002.

Andrew and his brother left Germany in the late 1800's to avoid forced miltary service. They landed in Mobile Alabama and stayed there for sometime. Andrew was a tailor by trade and followed that profession He met and married my Grandmother, Mary Horrigan, in Chattanooga Tenn and had 2 children while living there. He ultimatelty moved to Cincinnati in order to live in a more Germanic atmosphere, and raised his family there. I am interested in finding out more about him and his family, background etc.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Robert Berner

Actually, I need to revise some of the dates and add more info (and I can't believe it has been over 10 years since I asked this!)

Martin IFFLAND was actually born May 29 1865. He was listed to have been born in "Baldeck" Germany, but I have a suspicion it was Waldeck, Germany.

He passed away Jun 22 1926 at Norton Township, Kankakee County, Illinois, USA.

I found numerous census records and have been able to establish children, etc. but I can't find anything about his parents other than his father was named "John" according to his death certificate.

I'd like to take this line into Germany, but I don't know where to start. If anybody has any info on this Martin's parents, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks,
Tim

I would love a copy of the article you mentioned. I am researching my Ifland ancestors, and their home town in Germany is about 20 miles from the place you mentioned. They also emigrated in the mid 1800s, so maybe there is a connection there.

The Ifland line I am looking into is:

Wilhelm Friedrich Ifland 1867-1939 son of:
Marten Iffland 1820-1916 son of:
Johannes Heinrich Iffland 1774- son of:
Johann David Iffland 1734- son of:
Justino 'Jost' Iffland 1701- son of:
Herman Iffland 1673-

Thanks,
Heidi

My Iffland ancestors are from Dingelstedt, Eichsfeld, Prussian Province of Saxony. Over centuries the spelling was Ifland, then it hanged into Iffland. Some relatives who emigrated to the States changed the name into Efland or Evland. A part of the family moved from Dingelstedt to Magdeburg, today Sachsen-Anhalt.

My grgrgrandmother Caroline Ifland (*abt 1816, not married until at least 1840) disappeared from Magdeburg some time between 1840 and 1876 together with her daughter Charlotte Caroline was born in Magdeburg on 2 July 1835.

I assume they followed some relatives to the USA and am still looking for any traces of

Caroline and Charlotte Caroline If(f)land.

Please let me know if you have ever heard of them.
If you are looking for Iffland from Dingelstedt please email me directly at post@iffland-genealogie.de

Thanks a lot

Gaby

A distant relative of mine was Andrew Iffland, Jackson Matrass Factory (Jackson, Tennessee).
Eduard / Edward was born in Dingelstädt, Eichsfeld, Thuringia, Germany in 1875 in died in Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio in 1962. He had left Germany in the mid-1850s together with his brother Josef.
He married a Mary (?)
As my maiden name is Iffland, too, I did research the Iffland line and have Edward's line back until 1658.

I'm very interested in knowing what happened to his children Julia *1911 (probably Jackson) and Andrew * 1915 (probably Jachson)I'd be happy to share info with US relatives.

Gaby (Germany - email: iffland-genealogy@t-online.de)
Hi, I'm just researching my Ifland/Iffland ancestors from Dingelstaedt, Eichsfeld, today Thuringia. Last Saturday I drove all the hundreds of miles to research at the archive that keeps the church records and hit some hundreds of my ancestors back to 1658.
Answering my query on a German board someone sent me a newspaper article from 1929. The cover story was about the people who emigrated from the Eichsfeld area, especially Dingelstaedt in the mid 1800s. The article did not only mention names but also parents, professions, where the emigrants went to and sometimes what they did for a living in America and if their dreams came true.
Names mentioned:
Joseph and Eduard, son of paulus Ifland, to Tennessee, nephew Hieronymous Michael, son of Heinrich Ifland, later had a hotel in Cincinnati, His sister Juliana (Julchen)and other Iflands followed.
Most - if not all - turned out to be distant relatives.
If you are interested in the newspaper article please email me directly at iffland-genealogy@t-online.de. ALso if you are interested in any Ifland/Iffland from the Eichsfeld area.

I'll gladly send you the article and share my Ifland ancestors with you.

Gaby

My grandfater was Carl Iffland of Frankfort Germany.

He married Emma Schussler my grandmother and had a child Margeretha Maria Schussler -who is my mother.

They lived in Frankfort Germany where Carl was a well known Tailor. My mother only remembers that he was very handsome and well respected. He died when she was very young. But many attended his funeral.

When my mother married my father she moved to the US (he was in the military).

She remembers very clearly that my grandmother worried about her and told her if you ever need anything that you have relatives in New York. My mom never did and since has lost all evidence.

She thinks she is the only person left of the Ifflands and Schussler.

Any information on the ifflands of New York will help me.

thanks

Curtis

She married John Budesheim before 1895 and I did find her in a census living with him. I will try and dig up and see if I have any records of any others. Please explain your connection to Iffland again.
Thanks, Rhonda

Mary Iffland daughter of Conrad and Barbara was my grandmother on the Gerrand side. We know very little so excited to hear from you so maybe we can fit some of the puzzle together between us.Grandmother Mary never went back to Australia and never spoke much of her family. My email address if you wish to contact me direct is lesterjanet@clear.net.nz
Regards Janet

Hello Janet

Just found your message on ancestry.com.au. Did you ever hear back from the person who posted the message about the Ifflands? If you didn't and you still want to know about the Ifflands, let me know. They were my GG Grandparents too. I went to a family reunion for descendants of the Ifflands (and several other German families) here in Sydney about 10-15 years ago. There's a lady who has done very extensive research on this and related families. All came out to Australia from Mittleheim/Eltville, Germany under a program sponsored by the German Consul in Sydney in 1840s/50s. Vinedressers, coopers, etc. Came to work in the wine sector in western Sydney, Hunter region north of Sydney, and elsewhere in NSW. Lots of documentation exists on it, as I recall.

Regards,

Mal Jones
