Good evening, Peg. Thank you so much for reaching out to me. I actually knew your Godmother. My family all referred to her as Aunt Anna, but she was actually my Grandfather's Aunt. I have vivd memories of visiting with her in her very small cottage at Moosic Lake near Scranton, PA. I'd love to exchange some family tree info with you and would like to know if you feel comfortable exchanging email addresses. I find this message board format is somewhat limiting. My email address is jdmnoj@aol.com. Feel free to use it. Have a good night. - Joe Schuler

My name is Peg McEvoy, and my grandmother, Catherine Mellody was your great, great grandmother’s sister. I got
your email address from Joyce Webster. I have gotten an abundance of information on the Mellody family from Joyce. It seems there were quite a few of them. Bridget and Patrick’s youngest daughter, Anna was my Godmother and I believe her brother James was my Godfather. I would love to hear from you and compare notes.

Hi. It was so great to hear from you. I would love to hear any information you might have on the Melody family. My Grandmother, Margaret (Bridgets sister) died in 1930 when a porch she was standing on collapsed. It basically chrushed all the bones in her body. Her husband Patrick Maloney gave my Dad, Edward Maloney and his brother Frank to their Aunt Helena and Uncle Frank Gaughan to raise. It is nice to hear from relatives on the Melody side:-)

His father was Joseph Michael Igoe--passed away when my father was young (probably around early 1930's) From what I have been told, the grandfather came to NY but wound up in Jersey City; I understand he owned two taverns there. If anyone has info relating to this Igoe family in Jersey City, I would love to hear ---

One thing we do know is that Catherine Igo who left from Roscommon Ireland came to the USA with 6/7 sons and a daughter. The daughter was Ann J. Igo b approx 1821-1826 in Ireland who married Patrick Mcnamara born 1824+/- and married in 1844 in Ireland. The 6/7 sons/nephews all had names like John, Michael, Patrick which is why this is so very hard to determine. In our line Michael Igo born 1825 in Roscommon married Ann O'Neal born 1823-1825 Roscommon (married 1844 St Patrick's Roman Catholic Church Pottsville, Schuylkill, PA on October 10th.) Hope that helps somewhat.

Igoe Sr. who spent his life in Albany. He died in 1993. His wife was Edith. He had a brother Tom and I believe another brother who died at a very young age. I don't know much about my family tree. If anyone has any information I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi John, My gt. grandfather John Igoe was born 1850 in Muckenagh, Noughaval, Co. Westmeath on the shores of Lough Ree. He went first to Dublin where he met his future wife who
he married in London in 1872 (Mary Jane Watts). It seems his father was Lawrence Igoe and his mother was Julia/Judith
Cormick. She first married Heveran(Heffernan) so John is possibly Heffernan's son. I would like to hear what you can tell me to further my research. John's mother was Mary Doyle
and Julia's parents Michael Cormick and Bridget Geraghty.
Irene of Seattle former London. e-mail new address limey1ne@gmail.com

Although a great tour, if I have the opportunity to return, I would like to take time in Tipperary to follow the Maher line, in County Laois for the Hyland lineage and of course Roscommon for the Igo family.

I noticed by your email address that you may be from Denver. My son just returned. He lived in Denver for two years. What a beautiful city, even though the traffic can be trying.
Thanks so much for your reply. You are correct we would need to go back to the 1830's. James Igo and Anne Solan were married in the 1860's in the US. Many of the Igo family lived in Schuylkill County. I have been in contact with some of them.

I was just in Ireland and traveled through Roscommon. Ireland is certainly a beautiful country!

Thanks again for your reply. I will post if I find any additional information.

Cindy
Cindy,

I read your note with interest -- oddly, I had just come across a reference to the Schuylkill river on Thursday.

My father, Michael Joseph Igoe, was born in Roscommon in 1921 -- his family from northern Galway, Glennamaddy. He was the only member of his immediate family to have children.

Since I imagine all Irish Igoes and Igos are related I'm sure you and I are, but not (I think) in the last 100 years. My father grew up in Ireland and Scotland and lived in England. None of his Igoe relatives emigrated to America except his father Thomas Igoe who returned to Ireland and started a family there. I have accounted for his close male relatives and he was born in 1873 so I think to have any chance of a shared ancestor, we'd have to go back at least to 1850 and probably much further.

Yes we are in California but my great-grandmother was an Igo from Philadelphia. We have been led to believe that both of her parents were of Irish origin and I have found her mothers family but have not yet been able to find her father. I have found several Irish Igos in the Census in Schuylkill, PA which would imply that they were miners and would probably explain why he died so young.

Thanks for your reply - my search continues

Hello, and thanks for your questions.
There are a great number of IGOEs in Pennsylvania, particularly in the Scranton and WilkesBarre areas. As far as I know, none of them are related to me, and I am not in contact with anyone in that area. Not sure what you mean about "Irish Origin of the Igo's" .... I have some information which links the name "IGOE" to the Welsh name "YAGO," and "YAGO" is itself linked to the Spanish "IAGO" .. which is ultimately "JAMES" (as in Santiago). Hope this helps. Are you in the USA? I live near Baltimore.

In your research have you found any Igo's in Pennsylvania? I am trying to track our Igo's from Philadelphia (and I suspect Schulkill) in the mid-late 1800's.

Also, do you have any information on the Irish Origin of the Igo's?

Thanks so much

Well, we come from the Bonniconlon area, and my Great Grandfather was named Francis, born there in 1845. My Grandfather John Igoe was born in 1873 which is closer to your Margaret Ellen. Griffiths Valuations, a survey done after the Famine, lists our Francis and two more, Michael and Patrick, all "farmers"in 1856. My Grandfather John had siblings Sarah, Patrick who died around 1940 in the USA, and Francis. As far as I know these are the only Bonniconlon Igoe's, so I guess we may be distant cousins!

Daniel,

Sorry for the delay in my reply.
Here is what I know about my IGOE ancestors... we are about the same age (I was born in 1948), and are fathers are about the same age (mine was born in 1919), so I think your grandfather and mine could have been brothers.

Michael John. Igoe (Grandpa) married Brigid Hoare (Nana) , his childhood neighbor, in Orange NJ, around 1915.
Their son, Michael Joseph Igoe, my father, was born In May 1919 in Orange.

The Hoare and Igoe homesteads are 2-3 miles west of Tarmonberry, between Tarmonberry and Scromage. They are on a small road just northwest of the Halfway Pub on the Tarmonberry=Strokestowne Road.

In 1984 the Hoare farm was owned y a British couple who were operating the farm as the "Halfway Hatchery".

A neighbor, Mr. Connor Igoe, said he was not a near relative but he remembers that Grandpa Igoe had a brother, Frank-Joe Igoe, who inherited the homestead in Roscommon. He was estranged from his wife, and he died in England in about 1920. His wife died in a convent in Longford, the homestead was sold and the house leveled. It was located next to the Hoare homestead.
My great grandmother was Mary Agnes Igoe Meehan Gabelhai from Kilgellia Attymas County Mayo. I am looking for marriage record to John C. Meehan (from Ohio) in 1901.

I was at the family homestead in 1997, and met with Barbara who was still living at the homestead with her daughter and son in law (Anne and Sean MacGowan, children Marian, Paul and Karen)

Barbara told me that the new house was built in 1982. Thomas Igoe (her brother ?) died in 1987. She said that Bridget had lived across the street and married Thomas.
They settled in Youngstown, Ohio, in the late 1800's but first met in Philadelphia, according to family history. John Joseph Igoe, born maybe Templetagen or Sligo in 1860-61. Bridget may have been born in Ballina, also 1861. Bridget left a sister, Mrs. James McManus in Ireland, and a sister Mrs.T J McLavery in Philadelphia.

Andrea,You have my sympathies on not being able to trace your "Igoe's" in Ireland, me too. I have my grandmother Eleanor,
born 1872 in London, dau. of John, born 1850, in Co. Westmeath
His father was a Lawrence whom I have traced through Griffiths
Valuation as coming from Muckenagh, Noughaval, Westmeath. The village of Glasson is near here. The Albany, N.Y. Igoe's come
from there. I have Lawrence's death in 1876,age 50 his wife was Julia MacCormack. It seems likely all John's brothers and
sisters went to New York around 1895. If you have anything to add please e-mail me direct at limey1ne@comcast.net
Irene of Seattle
