Hi,

I'm relatively new at this. I'm looking for Breashears relatives and noticed your post about your family marrying into the Breashears family. Also, you list Gentry as one of your family lines. I'm interested in pursuing this. I'v posted several queries about Alfar Breashears and her brothers, but no hits. Alfar married James Lester Whitley. She was my great-grandmother. I hope you're still on this message board as I am responding to an old post.

Joanna Gentry

The Hannibal Courier-Post Newspaper - Oct 19, 1935 (pg 3)
FETE IHRIGS ON ANNIVERSARY -------
Friends Surprise Withers Mill Couple With Big Party -------
- Withers Mill, Mo., Oct 19. --- Honoring Mr. and Mrs. William IHRIG on their 47th wedding anniversary, more than fifty of their friends and relatives gathered at the IHRIG home here last night for a surprise party.
- The crowd brought ice cream and a huge wedding cake for refreshments. During the evening there was a short program consisting of a medley of old time songs by Mrs. Orla BAKER and Mrs. Thomas ROLAND; and a reading "The Proposals" by Virginia LEFEVER.
- The party presented Mr. and Mrs. IHRIG with a large bunch of potted chrysanthemums. Playing of old time games was part of the festivities.
- The IHRIGS are among the most prominent families of this community and have lived here about 27 years. The were married October 18, 1888, at Columbus, Ill., at the Methodist church by the Rev. Richard TILLMANN, who was Mrs. IHRIG's sister's father-in-law. Mrs. IHRIG, before her marriage was Miss Elizabeth GLACIER. She was born at Columbus, Ill., on June 12, 1869.
- There were no attendants at the wedding. Mrs. Emma SCHEINER played the wedding march and there was a reception after the ceremony at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John GLACIER.
- Mr. IHRIG was born at Melrose, Ill, September 24, 1863. THey list the same date of death that you have, but list his age at 37.9.21, which would have made his birthdate Sept 25, 1776. That record also lists his cause of death as "sudden". No mention of where he was buried.

The day he died was also the day that your ggf was baptized in that same church.

Hi Connie,
Tryed to send a e-mail to you but guess you didn't get it.
John Larkey that married Mary Ann Ihrie born 25 Apr 1776
Philadelphia, PA died 13 July 1816 PA which was just after
my gr grandfather, George Larkey was born. I read somewhere that it was like a sudden death.
Patrick Larkey (believe the father of John) is also listed in
1790 census Philadelphia Co, PA, Blockley Twp.
Mary Ann Ihrig Larkey was the daughter of Johannes Ihrig, son of Connar, Sr.. She and her siblings were adopted by their grandfather, Conrad Ihrig, Sr. when Johannes died before the children reached age 14. The records are in thd PA Orphans' Court, Easton, PA.

Johannes is buried in the Easton Cemetary, but not in the plot with the rest of the Ihrigs.

Ruth Bell b: 14 Nov 1821, wife of George O. Ihrig, b: 17 Jan 1821. I have finally made a breakthrough in my research of this couple. Ruth's parent's were Miller Bell, b: 2 Mar 1796, Green Co., PA, d: ca: 1838, Washington Co., AR. and Hannah Arkwright b: 29 Mar 1799, Beaver Co., PA., d: 6 Oct 1886, Madson Co., AR.

I am still stuck on who is the father of George O. Ihrig. I believe his father may have been Jacob Ihrig, or Peter Ihrig. I know now, George was 2nd or 3rd generation Ihrig born in the US. I do believe I will have to focus my research for his father in Penn and Ohio.

I will exchange information with any interested researchers.
Do you have any dates on these people, by any chance? My gg-grandfather, Peter Ihrig, was born in about 1816, died around 1889.

My great-great uncle, George Nimrod Ihrig, was born March 2, 1845 and died Jan 5, 1894, in Avery, Missouri.

Goerge was married to Mary Jane Breshears, born August 8, 1849, died Feb 14, 1915, Avery, Mo. also.

We are likely talking about different Peter Ihrig's, but since mine was in PA as well, I think it likely they are related.

I have had some time to check my scant information.
My g-grandfather, Benjamin Franklin Ihrig, had a brother, George Nimrod Ihrig (as well as brothers named Joel and John, by the way).

George Nimrod I. married Mary Jane Breshears. Had 9 children that I know of.

George's sister, Susana Ihrig, also married a Breshears, but I don't know his first name.

Your family origin story is sililar to ours, but ours has always been from Germany. Ihrig is still a word in German dictionaries, by the way.

We wonder if the Ihrig's came to Germany as soldiers for hire from Norway, but we have no back up for that, just that Ihrig is an odd last name in German, and seems to relate to outsiders.

I do not know. Going UP the ladder for this family has forever eluded me. One source said Geo. O. father's name was Oscar, but she couldn't back it up with a credible resource. Do you have any idea's?

100 years young, living relatives of mine are adamant: the family came from Holland, not Germany. Three brothers supposedly left together, for America, going through England, on to Pennsylvania. One was named Peter, one Joel, and one George. I only receintly found out 'my' George O. was born in Pennsylvania, so maybe he was the first generation born here in America.

I recently visited the Ihrig Homestead with a relative of the Ihrigs of Germany. I rented a car in Mannheim and traveled to Fahrenbach to visit with a distant relative "Erna Munch". I followed her and her nephew to Untersensbach where we visited with the people that live there. The buildings are quite old but are still in use.
The village will be celebrating 650 years of existence later this year. It is a quaint village and the populace are very friendly. I didn't have time to do a lot of inquiry as I had to be in Speyer by 10:00 PM. Hopefully I can return at a later date and do much more investigation of my family line. Dan Ary

Looking for Ida Ihrig. She was born 11 Jan 1899 (I believe), but don't know where. She married Elvie Workman on 4 Oct 1917 in Creek County, Oklahoma. He was born 16 Mar 1892 in Missouri. They had 5 sons: Sylvester Martin b. 15 Oct 1918, Shirlen Thomas b. 22 aug 1920, Martel b. 1923?, Preston b. 1924?, Owen b. Oct 1925. I haven't found Ida listed in any census records. Elvie is listed in Creek County census as Alvie Workman, age 28, born Missouri. Elvie and Ida are my children's great grandparents, on their father's side. Ida passed away Oct 1977 in Weleetka, Creek Co., Oklahoma, but don't know where she was buried. Elvie died Aug 1981 in Lebanon, Missouri, I believe. Can anyone give me something to go on?
Hi Jim,

I am researching some family history and came across your posting on 13 June 2001 about the Ihrig family. I have an ancestor named Catherine Ihrig, born 29 Sep 1818 in Wayne Co.,Ohio and marrying John Ecker. I wondered if perhaps you knew anything about this particular person.

Thanks,

--Mark
