Hi all,
have been working on the Ward side of my family for a while now and have recently found this marriage

Joseph Ingham marrying Elizabeth 26 Mar 1894
St Mary's, Leicester
Witnesses to marriage Walker Ingham and Amelia Kilby

Amelia marries Elizabeth's brother and Walker is Joseph's brother. Is anybody researching this family?

Wards are one of my main lines and the one I have worked on the most so looking to try and move to nearer the present day as I have hit a dead end just before 1800 with this branch of the Wards.

Many thanks
Elaine

Harry Ingham, 10/31/1821 NY > Iowa, Eliabeth Russell Ingham

HARRY INGHAM is a prosperous farmer residing on section 26, Clay Township. He was born in Onondaga County, N.Y., Oct. 31, 1821, and is the son of John and Saran (Dresser) Ingham, both of whom were natives of Massachusetts. The genealogy of this family can be traced back to a period prior to the Revolutionary War, when there lived two brothers, John and Samuel Ingham. From these two brothers have sprung all the Inghams of the present day.

John Ingham, the father of our subject married Miss Sarah Dresser, and reared a family of twelve children, of whom there are four brothers now living: Harry, the subject of this sketch; Joseph, a farmers in Grundy County, Iowa, and John and James, twins. John is now making his home with his son Marcus Ingham, in Brighton Township; James resides in Flushing, Mich., on the Flint River. The family resided in New York, and there engaged in farming until 1839. John Ingham was quite a mechanic. Having invented a rotary steam engine, a firm in Alton, Ill., wrote him in regard to it, and after some correspondence ordered on built for their use. Mr. Ingham had the engine built, and started with it to Alton, Ill., intending to give it his personal attention until the firm was satisfied. On arriving at Alton he found the firm had become bankrupt, and therefore had t make disposal of the engine. Taking a streamer he came up the Mississippi River, and visited Washington County, Iowa, and being well pleased with the country purchased a claim of 240 acres of land on section 13, Clay Township. He then returned to New YOrk, sold his farm, and came with his family and settled upon his claim in Clay Township. Upon this farm he remained until 1848. Mrs. Ingham having died, he sold that farm and went to Peoria, Ill., with the intention of making that his home. On his arrival there some of the family were taken sick, which made them somewhat dissatisfied, and after their recovery he again returned to Washington County, and purchased 160 acres of land, and there remained until his death, which occurred in 1860. John Ingham was a man of more than ordinary ability, and had great mechanical skill. In early life he learned the trade of a weaver, and for some years was engaged in the manufacture of woolen goods in New York. He and his estimable wife were both members of the Congregational Church.

Harry Ingham came to Washington County, Iowa, in 1839, in company with his parents, and has since made this his home, and is therefore one of the oldest settlers now living in Washington County. He was united in marriage, Dec. 8, 1845, with Miss Elizabeth Russell, a native of Anderson County, Tenn., born Nov. 6, 1819, and a daughter of William and Mary (Gailbraith) Russell, who were natives of Virginia. Her mother died when she was quite young, and her father some years after. Mr. and Mrs. Ingham have two children—Baxter, born Sept. 4, 1848, and John Robert, born Nov. 2, 1854. The latter was united in marriage, Feb. 10, 1887, with Miss Mary Jones, of Des Moines County. She was born July 13, 1856.

The life work of the subject of this sketch is but another illustration of what can be done by one who has a will and determination to do. Commencing life without a dollar, he has by industry and economy acquired a fine property, and is now numbered among the most prosperous men of Washington County. In 1848, after hae had been married about two years, he purchased his first forty acres of land, going in debt for the same. It was but a little while before he had the debt paid, and from time to time he added to the original forty until now he is the owner of 280 acres of as fine land as can be found in Washington County. On the farm is a fine brick residence, a large and well-built barn, and such out-buildings are are necessary to carry on the business of general farming and stock-raising. For about twenty years he has been turning his attention to the grading of his stock, and has a fine a grade of horses as can be found in the county. He has now turned the active management of the farm over to his two sons, and is living what may be termed a retired life, although from his nature it is impossible for him to abstain from work. Mr. and Mrs. Ingham are members of the Congregational Church of Brighton, and in all Church work they show a willingness to do their part. Politically, he is a Republican of the true blue type. Among the men who are highly esteemed citizens of Washington County, none stand higher than Harry Ingham.

Portrait and Bioraphical Hiwtory of Washington County, Iowa
1887
pages 560-561
His will dated 1823 identifies that his siblings were Joseph, William, Richard, Mary (married Thomas Taylor), Elizabeth (married John Lawton), George, Ann (married John Jackson) and James (from whom I am decended).
His will states that he has lands and properties at Sheffield and Nottinghamshire.
I have checked the IGI and cannot find christenings for any of these people, or marriages for the daughters, so possibly they were non-conformists.
Any help would be appreciated
Catherine

Jonas Ingham / Elizabeth Woodhouse / Joseph and James Burcham

I am looking for information on these people from the early 1700s in Hunterdon Co, NJ...

Joseph Burcham was born to James Burcham and Elizabeth Woodhouse in the Northampton area. James died in 1709 and Elizabeth married Jonas Ingham. I assume Elizabeth died around 1724, because that is when John Haines of Evesham became Joseph's guardian.

So, my question is: Why was John Haines appointed as Joseph's guardian instead of Jonas Ingham?

I am hoping that somebody might be able to glean something from your Ingham family info (such as Jonas had tons of kids to take care of already, for example...I don't know).

Also, I am looking for the area where Jonas and Elizabeth lived. I assume Amwell in Hunterdon County but I would like some confirmation. Also I am looking for as specific of an area as possible.

I hope somebody can help me!

Joseph Burcham

Olive Grinnell married Warren Jones then Josiah Dibble. Her daughter Emily Hand Jones married Alfred Ingham

Hello there! I was hoping someone might be able to shed some light on my dead end.

I am trying to find the parents of Olive Grinnell who was born c.1794 in CT. I believe her mother's surname was either Munger or Hand due to the middle names of children and grandchildren.

About 1812 Olive married Warren Jones and had two daughters: Sally 'Grinold' Jones born c.1814 at Saybrook, and Emily Hand Jones born c.1816 at Saybrook. Warren Jones died before 1820 because Olive Jones was enumerated on the census as head of household. I do not know who the parents are of Warren Jones (assumed to be either Munger or Hand).

Olive Grinnell married secondly Josiah C. Dibble in 1830 at Saybrook, and had daugher Lydia Olive Dibble born 1832 at Westbrook. Olive Grinnell died 1862 at Westbrook and is buried at Lower Cemetery.

Sally 'Grinold' Jones married Edward Chapman Jr. in 1840 and they resided at Westbrook. They had children Emily Louisa Chapman, Edward Warren Chapman, and Ezra Newton Chapman.

Emily Hand Jones (my line) married Alfred Ingham 1835 at Saybrook. They resided at Old Saybrook. They had children Frederic Henry Ingham, Alfred Lay Ingham, Harriet Olivia Ingham, Alice Asenath Ingham, Warren Jones Ingham, Laura Isabell Ingham, and Mary Elizabeth Munger Ingham (my line). Mary Elizabeth Munger Ingham married Charles Augustus Kirtland 1878 and they later resided at Deep River, CT.

Please please help me!
Sincerely John E. Reed
Ingham's of Accrington, Lancashire England

Hello Ingham Board,

Does anyone have any of the following Ingham's in their family or research?

My grandmother was Sarah Jane Ingham born in 1882 in Accrington Lancashire England. She married my grandfather Edward Gargan at the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, Harrogate York England around 1905.

Sarah's parents were: William Henry & Elizabeth Ann Ingham. My great-grandmother, Elizabeth Ann died Sept 28th 1899 in Accrington, she was 40, so she must of been born around 1859. Not sure where? And, not sure where my great-grandfather, William Henry was born or died.

Thank you and best wishes re: your searches.
Dorothea

Inghams of Lancashire, England

Hello,
Barcroft Ingham was my g,ggrandmother's grandfather, he was born abt1791 in Pendleton, Lancashire, England. He married Mary Wood in Clitheroe, Lancs in 1817. He was the son of Edmund and Ann Birtwistle, granson of Edmund and Ann Unknown.
His siblings were Edmund (another!) Richard, George, Mary and Sarah.
Barcroft had 10 children, eight of which I have names, Betty (8 May 1820), Nancy (25 July 1822), Henry (16 Jul 1824), Joseph (18 Apr 1827), Mary (25 Nov 1829), Margaret (5 Feb 1832), Alice (2 Apr 1834), Sarah (9 May 1836), other two unknown as yet.
My other particular interest in the Inghams of Pendleton is a Margaret "Peggy" Ingham, born abt 1780, I'm led to believe her father was Thomas, she married two Chatburn brothers named Humphrey (in 1799) & Thomas (in 1816), I have found 4 children of the first marriage and 4 from the second. Including Jonas who became the mayor of Harlan, Shelby County, Idaho.I feel Margaret must be connected to Barcroft in some way.
Any help/ info you could give me would be appreciated, willing to share any I have.
Thankyou
Adrienne
If you prefer you can contact me at ade@insomnia.fsnet.co.uk
getting started to research my family tree for James Clegg Ingham

My great grandfather, James Clegg Ingham, came to the U.S.in the 1800's from Manchester, England and lived in Wakefield,Ma. I haven't been able to locate any information concerning him. He was married to Mary Parletow from New Brunswich,Canada. If I remember correctly, he may have had a brother or several brothers who also came to this country at the same time he did. Any information or leads to help me would be appreciated. Thank you.

I'm a descendant of this man. I have a letter my Great Aunt wrote of information that was passed down to her. Three brothers came to Arcadia, Canada from a small indentation(called and ing) along the coast of England.
To distinguish them from other Ham families they came to be called Ing-ham, Ingham. I have more information, but no names. She mentions a North Ingham.
Any help would be appreciated.
