Hello,

First of all, I want to say that this is still very new to me. I am still very early on in my search for my family roots.

My grandparents were Tade (I think a nickname) Innis (spelled Ennis, at times) and Beauton Hunt.

Tade Innis' parents were William Innis (b. 1826) and Virginia(last name unknown) Innis, (b. 1845). Both were born in Tennessee but they lived in Illinois at least twice. Once was in Somerset, Illinois, and they lived there for at least 7 years at one time. I think they might have had family there.

William's mother and father were both born in North Carolina and so were Virginia's parents.

They had several children - James, William, Emerson, Edgar or Edward, Vernada or Donado, Mollie, Lillie and Frank. My greatgrandfather was probably Vernada/Donato. His name is written one way in some places, and written another way in other places, so it's hard to know for sure. His nickname was Tade, and he was born about 1868 in Illinois.

Tade and Sallie Hunt Innis, my greatgrandparents, met and married in 1889 and lived in Sharon, TN. Sallie's father was D. A./Alexander/Alec Hunt and mother was Martha or Matisha. They had several children, my grandmother, Beauton, but listed as Branton and Brauton in some places, and was their oldest child. They also had Cascal J., Hubert M., Lucile, Eula G., Millie, Pauline, Fred B., Ova J., and Eveleen.

Does any of this help you at all?

If you know of any info that will help me in my gen. hunt, please contact me. I will CERTAINLY APPRECIATE any help you can give me!

My name is Monica Innis and I'm wondering if I'm related to you folks. The furthest back I can go is to Robert Innis Sr. married to Francis Lynn (Unknown), their son John R. Innis (b.1874) married Elizabeth McCullister (b.~1869 in England). John had brothers Andrew and Fred. John's children were Robert, William, Jack, Fred, Marguerite and Edith. I actually knew Marguerite and Edith. They were my great-great aunts. Marguerite was known as "Aunt Sis" or just "Sis" to those who knew her. Robert of this generation was my great-grandfather. He married Pauline Estelle Hopper. all of the living Innis descendants that I know of, save one aunt, live in central or southern IL. My understanding is that our ancestors have lived in IL, IO and KY, but that the family originates in Scotland. Any assistance would be appreciated! :)

Quite a mixed bag of oatmeal presented.

- "James" is one of the predominant names in this family...of which a couple are "strays" or "missing" ... so you may be in luck!
- Drumbo [Blenheim Township, Oxford County,] Ontario is another lucky connection!
- Your quoted time frame references well for one of the stray James...but since there was a second "Innes" family in the general area...[which often gets inter-mixed]... other factors will have to be used to refine/filter your search.
- If by your reference to RMP you mean Royal Mounted Police ... I don't believe there is a connection. The RCMP [Royal Canadian Mounted Police] was formed in 1920 as a federal police force [sometimes, provincial/local], by the merger of the Royal Northwest Mounted Police (1873)- with the Dominion Police (1868), [which began as a police force protecting the Parliament Bldgs. in Ottawa]. Interesting theory to persue but something of which the local family history would have been both proud & aware!

Can you post more information - i.e.
- your direct lineage from James, with names & dates (if known)... [work backwards on what you know, from you to him]
- any regions/locations your ancestors lived in (to the best of your knowledge).

From what you have indicated ... the connection sounds promising & well worth persuing ... a very, very large & historical family. If not related ... can always put you in touch with the "other" Innes" line!

Not sure if you can contact me directly:
bamcgrat@artsmail.uwaterloo.ca

I am just starting out so here is what stories I know. My great-grandfather was James Innis born in Canada. My great-grandmother was Elizabeth Hurley born in NY in 1872. I am trying to find James's family -- the family handdown stories are..They met at a lumber camp where she had run away and worked as a cook. He may have been married before and had many children. He had red hair. Some say he was a RMP. His family is from Drumbo, Canada and many of his family is buried there. Also that some how his mother may have been a Native American or his first wife might have been. My grandfather Joseph Earl was born in 1900 and his sister was several years older Grace I think born in 1892. Any way that the research you did is related?
Mstier

I cant find much on my grgrgrandfather other than his name is Issac Innes. Him and his brother came over on a boat (but can't find wich one) escorted by there Aunt. Whom returned but passed on the way back. The story was that their parents did'nt want them to have to serve in the kings army like the oldest boy. They had moved from Ireland to England during the Pototoe famine. The only name my father could remember for Issacs brother was Skinner Innes. And that he played an instrument in band when he was in college in North Carolina. But was sure he had moved to Cal. at some point. Could these Innes be from the same Innes you mentioned

William INNIS / ENNIS of Maryland (b 1613)

I am trying to find out more about the origins of William Ennis/Innis, born 1613, emigrated to Virginia in 1635, died in Maryland (seen dates from 1681 to 1684 for death). My connections to him are through his daughter Frances (married Thomas Poynter) and also through who I think is his son, also named William Ennis/Innis (Jr.?), wife's surname Townsend (all in Maryland).

I found the great info on the Delmarva Settlers website, but haven't been able to verify for certain where William Ennis/Innis, Sr. came from. I'm most interested in a post on the FamilySearch.org website suggesting he was born in County Kildare, Ireland -- but I haven't yet found evidence for this, and haven't yet been able to reach the person who posted it. I would love to find an Irish connection, but in any case, I would like to be able to trace William's history before 1635.

I would love to hear from anyone with knowledge about the Maryland Ennis/Innis family during this period, or anyone with leads/advice on finding William's origins! I'm fairly new to this and am wondering if I just haven't checked the right places yet!

Thank you!

Knut,
First of all I would like to thank all the
decendants of the Francis Innis/Margery
Milliken Innis and the part that their son
James Innis contributed to my own family
research of Ann Arbuckle.My deepest
gratitude to James Robert Innis Jr.of
Cicinatti for his research done in the
County of Cumberland and all the surrounding Counties as he compiled info
on both Innis/Arbuckle. It appears these
two families were tied together not only
by location and time, but a close bonding
as marriages of Grandaughter,Greatgrandaughter & GGgrand-
daughter can testify, all marrying to
Arbuckle Grooms.I agree, that the next
step in finding the Ancstors of these
early Innis-Arbuckles and their Scotch or
Irish or Scotch/Irish origin is important.Yet,there is still much info
still to be found in early Pennsylvania
that will yeild clues.
INNIS / HETHERINGTON Families

I have been told that my great grandmother, Elizabeth Innis b June 30, 1814 PA married James Hetherington b 24 June 1797 Ireland, was the daughter of Francis and Nancy McWilliams. Francis was the son of James and Ann Arbuckle Innis. James and Elizabeth Innis Hetherington lived in Sugar Tree Ridge, Concord Twp., Highland Co. OH. I do not have a marriage date and I do not know where they were married. According to Highland Co. History James and 3 other Hetherington men and families came to Highland Co in 1836 from Giles Co., VA.and my family had always been led to believe Elizabeth was with him. James and Elizabeth's daughter Jane/Jennie m William James Wallace of Brown Co., OH in 1869. Do you have any info on Elizabeth? This amcestry info for Elizabeth came from the LDS FHC. I do not have verification of the ancestry of Elizabeth. I am most interested in this line and have found the messages on this board most interesting.

According to the Iona Innis genealogy
of Francis Innis and Margery Milliken Innis,
your people are as follows:

Francis and Margery had James
who married Ann Arbuckle.

James and Ann had Francis Marion who married
Nancy McWilliams.

Their third child was Elizabeth who was born
on June 30, 1814 in Pennsylvania.

On 11/5/1835 she married James Maxwell in
Brown County Ohio.

Maxwell died 8/21/1838 and was buried
in Brown Co.

Elizabeth then married James Heatherington
in Brown Co. James was born 6/24/1797 in
Ireland.
They lived in Sugar Tree Ridge, Concord
Township, Highland County, Ohio, where
James was a merchant.
They had three kids, Jane (jennie) John and
nancy.

Keeping the Different INNIS Lines Apart

There are several Innis lines.
The Francis Innis PA line,
an earlier MD William Innis line (1650)
A Brice Innis out of Hanover Dauphin County PA, 1700's,
a Newfoundland James Innis 1750's
the Jamaica Innises,
all unrelated as far as I can tell.
and then a mysterious James Innis buried
in Manor of Maske in PA in 1760's aged
60 something and where he fits no body knows.
He also bought land in that area around
1740. so tempting to connect him to our PA
Innises, as a father, uncle, sibling or
whatever. But no clue.

Does anyone have Rev. Cuthbertson's
diary with the baptism entries for
Francis and margery's kids. Francis
is variously identifed (if we are talking
the same guy here) as Francis, or
Francis James, or James Innes,
so that Iona is wondering whether we
have a James Francis or Francis James
as the name, rathet than mere Francis.

Knut

Hello, the information that I have on Bertha Coleman is that she married a man named Innis/Ennis? The entire family was in the Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Rochester NY area. It is possible that she remarried sometime in her life, I just don't recognize the Rozier name. Where was your grandmother's home? If she was in the area, we might need to dig a little deeper. Thanks for your reply.

Samuel Crosby, Frank, Jane, William, John, David, Mary, Francis. According to 1871 census David was born in Scotland. I have a copy of his and Sarahs marriage certificate and his father was down as William. Francis Innes witnessed their marriage it is possible that this was Davids brother. I found an entry for 1881 census for Lancs. for Francis Innes b. Briggan Scotland but I can't find any reference to Briggan. William. David and Francis were all Plasterers.

Innis Family of Massachusetts

Looking for the INNIS Family of Massachusetts. Specifically MABEL INNIS born between 1886-1888. She was my great grandmother. She married FREDERICK ROLLINS of Maine. They are found in the 1910 census. She may have had a brother HOWARD INNIS. He is listed in the 1930 census living on the same road that MABEL lived on 1910. HOWARD is married to FLORENCE and the children are CHARLES S, BARBARA L and ROBERT E. MABEL is my brick wall. I cannot find her anywhere. She was born in Mass, her Father was born in CANADA and her mother was born in Mass and that is what HOWARD listed on the 1930 census. So I am assuming they were silings. Can anyone help me
