Hi !

Your great, great grandfather was probably James Inverarity (b1809, St. Vigeans, d 1886, Kirkden). He was a brother of my great, great grandfather, George Inverarity (b1802, St. Vigeans, d 1852, Alford). He and James seem to have moved from Angus up to Aberdeenshire. James married Margaret Forbes in 1833 in Strathdon and moved back down to Angus a few years later. Before marrying her he seems to have had a relationship with Ann Watson who produced James Inverarity on 6 February 1832 in Tough. He died on 24 October 1913 in Leochel Cushnie of Valvular Disease of the Heart. He and Elizabeth Murray had 5 daughters and 2 sons. They were married on 13 March 1861 in leochel-Cushnie. prior to that, though, James had a relationship with an Isabel Anderson and produced an illegitimate daughter in 1860, Christina Ann Inverarity/Anderson who died in 1863. Going back to Ann Watson - After her 'fling' with James Inverarity she married a Robert Mitchell and Had at least 2 sons and a daughter with him. I have not chased up a death for her yet.Hope this helps you in your searches. If you want further information, let me know !

Colin Inverarity
Edinburgh
Hi Derek

Thank you so much for contacting me. Is your mums parents a James Patterson and Margaret Turner? I think thats her mothers name? If so, I believe that your mum is my cousin. Her father and my grandmother were brother and sister. My grandmother was Alison Isabella Bartley Patterson who was married to a George Pringle Low Bayne. My eldest sister is Alison Bayne. If you could ask your mum if we are her relations, would be fantastic to have contact. My eldest sister has been trying to find her and her sister Linda for a lot of years. My email address is liz_grieve@talk21.com. Would be great to hear from you. Thank you so much for contacting me.

warmest best wishes

Elizabeth

George Inverarity / Elspeth Milne

My grandfather, James Inverarity, was born on 15th March 1864 at Briech Street, Rothes. He was the son of George Inverarity, a farm servant and Elspeth Milne. Unfotunately it was an illegitimate birth and there is no information on the certificate to help me and obviously no marriage certificate to take me back to the next generation. George is proving rather difficult to track down. The only possibility I have come across is one born in St. Vigeans near Arbroath in 1821 which would make him a sprighly 43 when my grandfather was born. Being a farm servant he obviously moved around and is difficult to pin down in census returns.
Does anyone have any information on George Inverarity or the hapless Elspeth Milne ?

Thanks !
