Hello Edward; I haven't checked in with ancestry.com in a while so sorry for the delayed response.
My great grandfather and great grandmother, grandfather and siblings came to the lower east side of NYC between about 1904 and 1910. They lived in Lercara Friddi in Sicily. My greatgrandfather and his wife were Pietro Iovino and Rosalia Abbate. The children were Salvatore (my grandfather), Giovanni, Stefano, Antonino, Carmela, Rossina, Gaetano and Gaspare. They all anglosized their first names. I think Stefano became an undertaker in Brooklyn. Sal went to work for his brothers-in-law at the Salem Bros. Lamp Co.

You say your family came from southern Italy (not Sicily), so unlikely we are closely related, but let me know if any of this syncs with your research. I live in Connecticut.
