He came to the U.S. around 1931. He was, at that time, a merchant seaman. I believe he had 3 or four brothers and at least 1 sister. He died in San Francisco in 1943, survived by his widow Evelyn M. and 3 children. I am his son William. My mother lost contact with his family in England during WW2.

James Ireson

I am new in family tree search, but would love any information you might have.
I have traced back to early-to-mid 1700's that James Ireson and his wife Mary Hughes Ireson came to America along with a McNeil [McNiel, McNeal] family. (Mary Hughes Ireson's parents were William and Molly Daton Hughes.)
James and Mary had a son, Jacob in 1759, but James died while the child was still small. Records show that Mary married Thomas McNeil of the McNeil family that they had traveled with to America with, and that her son Jacob took the McNeil name.
A lot of my relatives have done extensive research on the McNeil history, but have nothing at all on the background of James Ireson. He is after all, my true ancestor.
If you have any information on a James Ireson that would fit this time frame, or if you could point me in the right direction, I would appreciate your help.

The Ireson name appears to have derived from England, where it is a popular name. In the US it is not as well known.

Tried to answer him directly, but got a Mailer daemon not deliverable message.

Here's what I have:

Robert C. Ireson was son of James Ireson (1793-1866) and Mary A Swingle (1796-1872). His grandfather was William Ireson (1785-1823) and Mary Willoghby (1758-1798). I have no earlier Iresons, but the Willoughby line goes back further. Mary Willoughby's parents were Andrew Willoughby (1717-1800) and Elizabeth Wallace (1729-1807). Her grandparents were William and Martha Willoughby (don't have dates or Martha's maiden name).

Going the other way is of course more complicated. He can email me at Histoqueen1@yahoo if he wants more information.

I have been researching WVa Iresons for a friend who is a granddaughter of Lavenia Ireson Cowden.

Here's what I know: Elisabeth D. Ireson (b. 1885 and died about 1968) married to William Saunders Ireson (b. 10 Dec. 1881 in North Tazewell VA, d. 6 Feb. 1959 in Williamson West Virginia) Had 6 children - John, Lloyd, Nanola, Roy, William, Lavenia. Lavenia (b. 28 Aug 1917 in Williamson, WVa, d. 10 Oct 2001 in Merced CA) married to Elmer Clyde Cowden (1916-1976). They had 3 children - 1 of whom is still living.

Would like to know more if anyone has more information.

- Emily

Help with Ireson genealoy

Can someone help a gentleman, William(Bill) Ireson fill in the Ireson genealogy? He does not have ancestry, so I'm posting what little information he does have. Below is an excerpt of a msg. he sent me regarding what he knows. His email is jillandbenney@aol.com you can tell him that you saw this msg on ancestry that Cindy posted for him. Thanks!

I have some unsubstantiated information that says the first Ireson in America was one William Ireson, found about 1724 tied to a piece of floating timber from a sinking ship...adopted by a man in Pennsylvania...had one son and two daughters...his son, also William Ireson, married Mary Willoughby, migrated to Saltville, VA, and later died there. He apparently had at least one child, a son named James Ireson who married Mary Ann Swingle on 02 Dec 1813. I think this James Ireson may have been the father of Robert Cummings Ireson.

They are in storage but I can get to them eventually. Have you heard of the middle name "Demeris." According to the tree its been handed down for a long time in the women. I have it, mom does, grandmother did, then Lavonia and on up. My line is through Nanola. Interested in your thoughts. Let me know.

Sincerely,
Amber

There are quite a few IRESONs in Yarwell and Bulwick - you might try looking there.
