Do you know where Linville came from? I heard that there was a Termin Isaac which I don't know was before or after Linville. Also I heard there was a German Isaac who emigrated to the United States from Assyria.

-Jared Isaac

My GGreat Grandfather Charles took off, went to sea and later carried on the family tradition working on the Brunel's GWR construction in the West Country, The Severn Tunnel and the Manchester Ship Canal where he contracted Small Pox and died in Latchford Cheshire in 1892. He married Caroline Tregidger from Truro in 1854. His son my Grandfather Wilfred Charles Isaac managed may UK and overseas projects until his death in 1933.
Hi,

My grandfather was James or Beverley Isaac. He married Annie Maria Kate Watkins (who also was from England) in South Africa. At some stage he changed his name to James John BEVERLEY. Unfortunately, there are no surviving children adn we are all puzzled about the reason for the name change. My grandfather was born in about 1880 in England and came to South Africa some time around 1905-1908.

Perhaps a long lost brother or cousin to your Nan?

Dear Keith.... As far as I know my family goes back to a Sir WIllaim ISACKE from Foston/Long Bennington. This would be about the 16th century. His son Richard married an Alice GOODBORNE. Their son Edward ISAACKE married Jane CHANEY of Fulbeck. Their son Richard had children named Richard,Mary, Sutton,Edward, Joseph, Rebecca,Benjamin and Cheiny Sharpe ISAACK. It was Sutton who went to ST. Helena in 1674.He had married a Jeane HARVEY in London and was widowed, He married again to Elizabeth and had 6 children. On the island he was a free planter and in England he was a clock maker. Edward, Joseph and Rebecca came to what is known as Calvert Co., Maryland in the US. The story of our family speakes of the brothers being sent there incharge of political prisoners. As all families do they migrate to various areas and that has happened in my family as well. However my direct line has remained in Maryland to this day.
My brother and I were the last of the family. Now his son Richard has 4 sons so the name will live on a few more generations.

Hi Linda,
I expect your "woman who collects all info on Squances" is Deborah O'Brien. I, too, have received good info from her. Yes, I would like to have a little more of your Squance ancestry. If you prefer, you can contact me direct at chrisdotduff3atsympaticodotca. In the meantime, I'm going to redraw my tree with your information.

Have fun
Chris
Hi Linda: Having once thought I had my SQUANCE tree sorted out, I've recently been getting conflicting information from sources and I have yet to check it all out. I originally had John ISAAC marrying Joan DANN in 1699, and their daughter Jane ISAAC marrying George SQUANCE (1704-1735) in 1730. Did George really die young?
Then I have Jane and George having a daughter Jane SQUANCE b. 1735 and marrying Thomas HANDFORD in 1755. I do not have Jane having a sister Joan c. 1732 marrying John MOORE in 1755, neither do I have any information on John ISAAC and Joan DANN; which is not to say that I wouldn't be receptive to receiving same!
I am a descendant of Jane SQUANCE and Thomas HANDFORD. Their daughter Dorothy HANDFORD married William SQUANCE who I have down as a son of George SQUANCE'S brother Thomas. As there appears to be a jump in one generation with this marriage, I have some doubts about this.
I would be interested to hear if you can confirm any of the above.
Chris

Hi Richard,

I have just spoken to my Nan, who is Dulcie Ellen ISAAC, and although her family came to Australia via South Africa and England, there doenst appear on the surface to be any immediate relation. She did have an unlce Charlie who lived down in Victoria, Australia, for sometime in the late 1800's. Nan did say that her family were a bunch of engineers and built many a great railway in England and South Africa but that is all we know.

I will quiz Nan a little more on the weekend as I am due to see her for a family gathering and see what I can uncover.

Regards,

Matthew James

Hi Chris, I just recently obtained my Squance and Isaac information from two combined sources: a woman who collects all info on Squances (Quances) and also the parish clerk for Beaford at GENUKI. There was one small discrepancy with my Joan (Joanna)'s marriage in which her name is shown as "Jane"...she becomes Joan (Moore) for the births of her children. Yes, your Jane (May 20, 1735) was born just a few months after her father George's burial (Jan.28, 1735). George was christened Jan.19, 1704, at Roborough nr Torrington to John Squance and Joan Mitchel(sic). I have a little more for the Squance (Quance) ancestry if you'd like it. George's widow, Jane Squance, married again on Oct.29, 1748, to John Dement.
Hope to hear from you again!
Linda

Hi Chris, I have Jane and her parents in my tree. Jane's daughter, Joanna (Joan) Squance, christened in 1732, married John Moore in 1755 at Beaford. I descend from their son, John, who was christened in 1759. Unfortunately, I have nothing further back than John Isaac and Joan Dann's marriage. Have you found anything further back? Which child of Jane's do you descend from?
Linda

I have not really investigated William but I have two possible parents for him! John Penduck and Marian Wells per 1861 census and William and Mary per another researcher who has proved very reliable on other points! I think there were probably two William Penduck one born 1859 Badminton son of John Penduck and Marian Wells ('mine') one born 1857 Thornbury son of William and Mary (yours)

My name is Carolyn Adkins and my mother is Elizabeth Isaac d/o William
"bill" and Hattie Music Isaac. My great grandma Hattie was the daughter
of Alanzo and Mary Elizabeth Blankenship Music.
I only know that Alanzo was born about 1870 in Virginia, and that
Mary was born in Kentucky. They were married about 1888-89
Their children were; John- Sadie-Hattie- Barbara or Mamie-Fannie Mae
-Oscar-Maudee- Thomas-Brizee- Della- Howard- and Luscion.
These children were all born between 1890 and 1917 in various parts of
West Virginia , with the majority of them having been born in Fort Gay, or
Wayne County. I'd certainly appreciate help in finding a clue to the parents
of Alanzo or Mary, or any additional information on the children of this
family. The name changed in the late 1700's to Isaac. One of Edward's grandsons a Jacob Issack who was born in Kingsdown in 1729, had a son Charles who married a Mary Beak in Kington St Michael in 1787. Their children included Harriet b 1788,William (my gggggrandfather) b 1789,Charles b 1792,Anthony b 1794,Isaac b 1796,Martha b 1797 and Anthony b 1799 were all born in KSM.William married a Martha Shell in Box in 1814. They had 12 children all born in Kingsdown,Box.
I would love to know if you can see a connection and indeed whether you have any information that you have found on the Isaac's in KSM that you could share with me. I do know that some of Charles siblings were also in KSM and had families for which I have details.
If you want to send your email address to me at aisaac@ihug.co.nz I am happy to send you an invitation to view my tree on www.ancestry.com
I can't find any links to Newton's though.
Kind regards
Alan
