Morton Donald Isaacson.age,75.(Australian television ,) An American song-and-dance man
Don Lane,
(Morton Donald Isaacson.)
SYDNEY (AP) — Don Lane, an American song-and-dance man who became an enduring television celebrity in Australia known as "The Lanky Yank,"
died Thursday. He was 75.

Lane was one of the best-known figures on Australian television for almost two decades until in 1983 he retired the "Tonight Show"-style program that bore his name. He had kept increasingly out of the public eye in recent years.

Lane's manager Jayne Ambrose said the entertainer died in a hospice in Sydney on Thursday morning from a dementia-related illness.

Lane was born in New York
as Morton Donald Isaacson.
He was an aspiring night club entertainer
in the United States —
his biggest claim to fame was an appearance on the Ed Sullivan show — when he first came to Australia in the 1960s and was hired as stand-in host for the Nine Network's "Tonight Show."

He was handed a full-time gig in 1975 and "The Don Lane Show" became a ratings winner, a mixture of cabaret acts, interviews, comedy skits and a song from the tall host to close each show.

Lane stood out as an American appearing on Australian television, which at the time was dominated by British-centric programming. His self-effacing humor and his show's ability to draw A-list celebrities when they visited, endeared him to Australian audiences.

In between seasons, Lane would return to the United States and perform as club singer in Las Vegas.

Lane's career surged again in the 1990s when he became the host of a weekly broadcast of NFL games, offering enthusiastic explanations of plays and rules to an Australian audience steeped in cricket and rugby.

Lane won more than 15 Logie Awards — Australia's version of the Emmys — and was inducted in the Australian Logies Hall of Fame in 2003.

"Don Lane was a stalwart of the industry and a great mate to so many of us here at Nine," said David Gyngell, chief executive of the network where Lane built his career.

Nine said it will broadcast a best-of tribute show nationally on Thursday. A funeral will he held Friday.

2009

Isaacson/Vidmar

I am trying to figure out if I either have a mess or a wrong turn. I am trying to trace my grandmother, I believe her parents are Norman Isaacson and Angeline B. Vidmar. She was born in Duluth, MN in 1924. All of my known family on this side are gone so I am stumped and have hit wall after wall after wall. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

I never knew him but would like to see some pics if you have any. I do know stories, and may have pictures from other family members.
Thanks
Jill Pine

Re: John A. Isaacson - Sweden to WA

Update:
someone found this info for me! John had a sister Inga Kristina, born 1861 and then after coming to the US, he had 4 younger siblings: Frank, Hannah Elizabeth (maybe known as Annie), Samuel & Emma Elizabeth.

The fathers name changed from Anders Isaksson Brukare to Andrew Isaacson, upon arrival in 1864. They lived in Rockford, Winnebago, Illinois. John & Inga's mother Anna, died in Sweden in 1863 and their stepmother Mary (Maja) came with them from Sweden.

If anyone has information about John's siblings, that would be wonderful!

John A. Isaacson - Sweden to WA

I'm looking for information on my great grandfather. The information I have, that may be wrong or right:
Born 1858
Born: Sweden

The story: Told he was born Isle of Gotland and came to the US with his parents when he was just a couple of years old. That he lived somewhere in the midwest or back east.

Facts: He was in WA state by around 1878 and was a settler in Clear Lake, Skagit County. He married Minerva Elizabeth Kimble and had 14 children.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. I'd really like to know who his parents were and to be able to track the family in Sweden. Thanks!

Lillian ISAACSON,
ISAACSON, Lillian 1917-2008

First among her Brooklyn family to explore the West Coast, Lillian and husband George fell in love with the California sun immediately. They moved to Los Angeles with 4-year-old Robbie in 1944, and friends and family soon joined them out West. Natalie was born four years later.

Lillian worked for 20 years for the State of California Department of Employment-and always part-time. There had to be time for fun, which often centered around a very social fundraising group whose mission was supporting the City of Hope. Other "musts" were bike rides at the beach, Vaudeville and dance for senior centers and nursing homes, swimming and sunning, card games, and finally, when the economic situation improved, cruises to exotic locales.

Her zest for life and amazing adaptability helped her to forge on after losing George shortly after he retired, and later, Robert, to cancer. Lillian had another long term, albeit stormy, relationship with Wally Rose, a dashing Hollywood stunt man.

She spent her last four years in Portland near her daughter and family, Paul and Jake Reich, and her other grandson, Eric Isaacson. True to form, she made many new friends here in Portland and remained young at heart until death. She died of natural causes and without prolonged suffering, which is how she always said she would die-on her own terms-much as she lived. We all miss her spunk and sparkle.

Celebration of life will be held at Rose Schnitzer Manor at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, 2008.

Memorial Donations can be made to Mercy Corps or Planned Parenthood.

Published in The Oregonian on 9/21/2008

I have to say I am still not convinced your family and my husband's family are not related. His family does spell their name Isaacson but I know many changed their spellings when they came here.

I am not sure when his family came from Sweden but it had to be about 1882. I don't understand whether they could be from the same area of Sweden because I do not understand the areas of Sweden. I noticed you are living in Sweden so maybe you can shed some light on the similarities of these two families. Could they maybe be brothers from Sweden?

Husband: Johan Edwin Isaacson
Born: Oct 1843 in: Alfsborg, Sweden
Married: 31 Dec 1863 in: Sweden
Died: 1924 in: Riley County, Kansas
Burial: in: Rose Hill Cemetery, Riley County, Kansas
Father:
Mother:
Other Spouses:
Wife: Anna Charlotta Hjern
Born: Dec 1838 in: Sweden
Died: 1926 in: Riley County, Kansas
Burial: in: Rose Hill Cemetery, Riley County, Kansas
Father:
Mother:
Other Spouses:
CHILDREN
1 Name: John Emil Isaacson
Born: 07 Jun 1864 in: Älvsborg län, Sweden
Died: 20 Feb 1935 in: Cleburne, Riley County, Kansas
Burial: in: Bellegard Cemetery, Riley County, Kansas
Married: 07 Apr 1896 in: Manhattan, Riley County, Kansas
Spouse: Emma Josephine Bjorling
M
2 Name: Hilda Caroline Isaacson
Born: Mar 1867 in: Sweden
Died: 1926 in: Cleburne, Riley County, Kansas
Burial: in: Bellegard Cemetery, Riley County, Kansas
Married: in:
Spouse: Andrew William Rosenberg
F
3 Name: Charles Gustaf Isaacson
Born: 10 Jul 1869 in: Sweden
Married: in:
Died: 16 Jan 1935 in: Cleburne, Riley County, Kansas
Burial: in: Rose Hill Cemetery, Riley County, Kansas
Spouse:
M
4 Name: Claes Albert Isaacson
Born: 22 Dec 1871 in: Sweden
Died: 16 Apr 1948 in: Cleburne, Riley County, Kansas
Burial: in: Rose Hill Cemetery, Riley County, Kansas
Married: in:
Spouse: Jennie Pelischek
M
5 Name: Alfreda Lavina Isaacson
Born: 1876 in: Sweden
Married: in:
Died: in:
Burial:
Spouse:
F
6 Name: Frank Oscar Isaacson
Born: 1879 in: Sweden
Died: in:
Burial:
Married: in:
Spouse: Florence B.
M
Unfortunately I do not find any of these names matching with the names and dates I have. Do you have any information on when they came to this country? I will keep looking but I seriously doubt there is a connection. Sorry!!

I do know there is also another Isaacson (Isakson) family from Sweden who settled in Kansas near the Randolph area. They are not related to my family search. I also know there were several families (not related) that settled in Minnesota.

Keep in touch and give me any other information you have so I can check further.
Well my Great Grandmother was jennette Isaacson. I Have no idea if she was born here or immigrated. She stayed in Claumet and married had children and I believe died there. Just as her daughter Margeret did. I know My grandmother and her sister went to school in calumet, But when my grandmother was 18 she took a bus to Detroit and lived there until she passed.I had asked her if there were family members she can remember on her mothers side , but I think they were much closer to her fathers side the Ostermans.

Hello,
I know that my Great grandmothers name was jennette Isaccson. I do not know any dates yet , My grandmother grew up in calumet and was born around 1925. Jennette married george Osterman, and They had three children, My grandmother Mae, her sister margeret(who lived in calumet all her life) and I beleive a son named George. I am interested in finding the cemetary that they are at. My grandmother passed last year , but she did tell me that her parents died pretty young and her sister died I believe in the late 1980's in or around calumet. I am interested in finding her daughter . Margeret married a seppula. If you could help at all I'd appreciate it,

I have a marriage certificate saying Charles F. Miller wed Elizabeth Isaacson on 9/17/1932. in Phila., Pa. Elizabeth died Nov. 18,1968. Where? No clue. They called her Betty. She had a sister Christine who married a Clifford E. Lucas. Camden County N.J.? I THINK Christine Loeser was Christine Miller's mother. Sorry, that is all the info, I have. I thought it might of been possible that Elizabeth might of moved anywhere. Sincerely, Bev

Hello,

For a long time now I've been trying to find relatives who emigrated from Sweden to the U.S. in 1882.

The people I'm looking for are:

Sofia Charlotta Gustafsdotter, born August 12, 1849 in Norra Solberga parish, Jönköpings county.

her husband Johan August Isaksson, born July 9, 1839 in Säby parish, Jönköping county.

Their children:
Ida Charlotta, born May 9, 1870
Augusta Lovisa, born May 23, 1872
Karl Oskar Ludvig, born February 3, 1874
Anna Matilda, born April 13, 1877
Emma Albertina, born April 21, 1879
Hilda Rebecka, born October 30, 1881

The only information I have about these people in the U.S. is two pictures, and there is snow in both pictures so I assume they settled down in a state where it snows in the winter, which limits the search a little bit but not much.

Anybody out there who knows anything about these people?

Best regards
Ann-Louise
