John F. " Jack " Isabel, 68, of Bass Lake died Dec. 31. He was born in Fall River, Mass., and was a manager of public relations for General Dynamics/Convair. He served in the Marine Corps. He was a former resident of San Diego. He is survived by his wife, Roberta, and by sons, David of San Diego and Michael of Louisville, Ky. Visitation: 1 to 5 p.m. tomorrow, Conrad Lemon Grove Mortuary, 7387 Broadway, Lemon Grove. Services: 1 p.m. tomorrow at the mortuary.
Interment: El Camino Memorial Park, San Diego. Arrangements: Conrad Lemon Grove Mortuary.

My father Charles Richard of Painesville, OH moved to Columbus, OH. His fathers' name was Albert whose father was Stephen Jessie Isabel. Stephens' father was Constant Isabel who also lived in Columbus, OH till his death but was reported to be from French Canada (Trois-Rivieres?). He was a brick maker/brick layer by trade and was born in 1840 and died in 1896. Some tell me they think that the name "Isabel" is not French at all but was Portuguese who moved to French Canada and learned the language fast. Any information would be appreciated! Thanks!
