I can give you a little help, but not much. If Wilfrid was b. 1876 and married by age 19, he was married by 1895. There was not a parish in Shawinigan until 1899 (St-Pierre 1899) but he could have been married as late as 1901 to have a child married in 1919. I don't find a marriage for him in Trois Rivieres diocese before 1900 but I don't have the repetoire after 1900.

Other churches in that area that were established before 1900 (for which I don't have repetoires) are:
Forges de St-Maurice: St-Michel reg:1753-1762
Pointe-du-Lac: La-Visitation reg:1744
Yamachiche: Ste-Anne reg:1758
Grand-Mère (Comprend: Ste-Flore): Ste-Flore reg:1866
St-Barnabé-Nord: St-Barnabé reg:1833
St-Boniface-de-Shawinigan: St-Boniface reg:1866
St-Elie-de-Caxton: St-Elie reg:1865
St-Etienne-des-Grès: St-Etienne reg:1857
St-Mathieu-du-Lac-Bellemare: St-Mathieu reg:1872
St-Sévère: St-Sévère reg:1856

There is more than one Ste-Agathe, one in Terrebonne Co. and one in Lotbiniere. I do find the three marriages you mentioned in Ste-Agathe in Lotbiniere and the parents are given as Wilfrid and Marie Demers. I didn't find Wilfrid's marriage anywhere in Lotbiniere Co.

Happy hunting,
Sharyn

Very interesting. I was given the information about Shawinigan in a letter from Ste-Agathe; however, my
grandmother always thought he was born in Nantic, RI.
Children:
Yvonne Isabelle,(born ?) Apr 1897
Marie Aurore Isabelle (born in Ste-Agathe), Sep 1898
Marie Rosealba (born in Manchester, NH) Sep 1899
Albert W. Isabelle (born in Ste-Agathe) Aug 1901
So he moved around...still curious where he came from to begin with. I have one picture that indicates him as
Wilfrid Pierre Jr.

Re: Roland Isabelle, FRA>Montreal

This is what is stated in many old family letters discussing family history from the 1900s-1920s and earlier, one of them reprinted in the book THE ISBELL FAMILY (1926) by Mary Isbell Scott.
Further, the Norman origin has been repeatedly referenced in many articles on the Isbell family and also in the book "MEMORIAL RECORD OF ALABAMA" by Brandt Fuller (1896) in the biography of James Isbell. Search for genealogical information on the name ISBELL on the Internet, and search for various websites on the name, and you will find many other articles which mention this. Go to:
http://www.genforum.com/isbell
and then search for "website" and you will locate more.

This of course does not necessarily mean that it is CORRECT, but simply that this is the well established tradition or legend in the Isbell family.
I have never seen proof that a Sir Guillaume (William) Isabelle came from Normandy to England in 1066 with William the Conqueror; in fact, I don't find his name in a list of William's men at the Battle of Hastings. Perhaps he came to England later, perhaps even much later. Perhaps the family came over MANY generations after 1066.

I do know that I have corresponded with a number of other Isabelle families from Canada who say their ancestors came from France.
The Isabelles of New Orleans and elsewhere on the Gulf Coast said the same thing.
But other than that, I have no documentation of their origin.

Her father, Roland, was one of 10 or 11 children orphaned shortly after they arrived in America and consequently don't know very much about there ancestry. They know that they lived for a time around Motreal before moving to NH. How do you know that Isabell is French and from around Normandy? Looking forward to hearing from you!

Thanks!!!

Thank you for responding. I was so surprised to find an email on the isableem family in my in-box. It seems that our grandmothers were sisters and we share common grnadpartents, Wifrid & Marie Isabelle. They had other children: Albert, Nectar, Raymond, Emile ( I met him at my grandfathers funeral in the 70's), Yvonne, Eva, Marie & Alice. Wilfrid Isabelle was born in New Hampshire. His father's name was Frederick and he was from France. They lived on a small farm in the 12th range in Ste Agathe. I went last spring to visit the area and went to his farm and the farm of my other great-grandparents as well. Wilfrid sold his farm in the 50"s for 1800.00. His house was very small. It is hard to imagine a family so large in such a tiny house. I do have a picture of Wilfrid that I can send you if you sned me your email. I also have a picture of Marie Demers. Wilfrid was the mayor of Ste Agathe de Lotbiniere so a couple of years. I was able to get some of this information from my mother's cousin on her father's side of the family. I have never had contact with anyone from the Isabelle side. Do you live in Canada. You won't believe this but I also have a copy of your mother's baptism certificate. It is in a family history my Aunt was given a copy of prepared by Lynda Nash in 1992. Please email me at JJ1957@optonline.net and I will shae my informatoin with you.

My mother has very little on her mothers family. This to me would be a great surprise to her.

Thanking you in advance.

Diane

I posted a message once before but have not heard anything. I am looking still for any information on my Grandmother. She was born in Cananda, and is buried in Alabama. She was one of 16 children. My great grandmother was married twice, having 8 children with the first husband and 8 more children with the second husband. My grandparents met and married in NY, now they are buried in Alabama.

My Mother has mentioned a couple of times that she remembers that an Aunt and Uncle came to visit her a couple of times when growing up in Alabama but does not remember their names. It was one of my grandmothers sister's and her husband. Every once in a while I will ask my Mom if she remembers, she thinks about for awhile and that's the end of it.

I do realize that Isabelle is a "COMMON" name, but .......

Any information is "GREATLY" appreciated.

Thanks Diane

I am looking for "ANY" information on my grandmother. She was born in Canada, being one of 16 children, she left Canada at 16 and went to Brooklyn NY. She married my grandfather in 1933, he William Richard Rountree. This is all the information I have due to my mother being 2 years old when my grandmother died in 1938. I have looked in Brooklyn, Canada and Alabama under everything I can and come up empty.

I am trying to shed light on a very dark corner of my family tree!

I am looking for Domitilde Isabelle (or Domithilde), who married Barthélémi Narbonne, somewhere on the South Shore (Montérégie), maybe Laprairie or Napierville. They had a daughter Rose-de-Lima Narbonne who married Albert Benoît at St-Athanase d'Iberville in 1888.

The only Domitilde Isabelle I have been able to find was the daughter of Thomas Isabelle and Marie Anne Bisaillon, and married Athanase Ricard April 1st 1861 in St-Michel de Napierville. For this to be the same person, she would have had to marry Barthélémi Narbonne first, because Athanase Ricard died in 1908.

Help, anyone?

Gilbert Benoît
Ottawa
