I would like to find out further information on a couple named John and Susanna (Susannah ?) Isherwood who settled in Burwood, Christchurch, New Zealand – specifically where they originated from in England if possible.
Hints may include the village of Wensley in the Yorkshire dales (Wensley is a family name). And Slaidburn in Lancashire which was the name of the family farm in Pleasant Point, NZ.
John & Susanna’s daughter Alice Edith Isherwood (b. 1888) married Selwyn Rouse Jackson in 1918. The newspaper article about their wedding states that Alice's parents "Mr and Mrs Isherwood were late, of Burwood", and Alice was given away by her brother Frank Isherwood.
There is a document which gives details of burials in Burwood cemetery. John and Susanna are mentioned along with their son Mark and daughter? Eleanor. (Susanna is also confusingly refered to as Selina in one part of the text - maybe this was a nickname?). It also mentions that Susanna had a lovely "Welsh" singing voice.
Any help would be much appreciated.
