Yes those are a sideways branch from mine! The common ancestors are William's Grandparents John and Elizabeth Isles. I descend from their daughter Ruth.

My great grandfather came from Nevis his name was Charles Philip Isles but left Nevis as a boy and came to Trinidad. I don't know what part of Nevis he came from.

Elsie and Ada Isles in Hants Female Orphan Asylum 1901

Can anyone help with info on either of these girls (my Great Aunts). They are on the 1901 census at this orphanage on Park Road.

Elsie May Isles born mid 1886 in South Stoneham
Ada Carollae Isles born Fall 1889 in South Stoneham
Their parents were Harry and Sarah Elizabeth (Rice) Isles.

Does anyone know which group ran this orphanage or where the records are kept.

In the 1860 1870 census Moses ISLES and his family lived in the 15th ward in NYC. In the 1900 census part of the family was living at 99 Bergen in Brooklyn, NY.
Would like to contact any descendants of this family or any one researching this branch.

Sorry I have the wrong spelling. It was Moses ILES who was in the 1860 1870 1900 NY census. However they were related to the ISLES family in Ireland and Canada ... just a different spelling.

I wasn't sure which posting to reply to, as I qualify for both, so I will reply to each!

An entry in Cluny OPR for 1790, reads:

"James Eldge in Cottar Fordie and Nannes Lather in Cluny parish having bee regularly proclaimed were married 10 November"

This refers to my ggg grand parents James Isles (c 26 Jun 1768, Bendochy Parish Church) + Agnes Lauder (b unknown, buried April 1803 Kinloch Parish Church)

James would appear to have remarried an Agnes Luke following the death of Agnes Lauder

Through this line various spellings have been used, including Eldge, Ealdge, Eyels, Iles, (capital i, small L) & Isles, sometimes one connection for birth, another for marriage and a third for death / burial!

It is not until the 1870's that Isles appears to have been universally adopted as the standard.

I would be interested to know your connection to the above, as I have nothing other than Agnes on the Lauder side and only a 'possible' on James' parents in John Eldge + Mary Laird / Law.

A FENDER SAVED TWO.

A street car fender saved the life of Charles ISLES, 72 years old, and his
wife, who is 70 years old, at Thirteenth Street and Chelsea Park line last
night. They stepped from behind a westbound car in front of one going
east. Mr. ISLES suffered only a few bruises, but Mrs. ISLES had internal
injuries. They were taken to their home, 1340 Greeley Avenue.

The Henry Isles that is my Gt Grandfather was born in 1863 so can not be your Henry Isles, but amongst the family photos and documents there is a memorial card for a" Henry Isles of Stanningley who died on Dec 11th 1875 in his 40th year of age" , He was therefore born in 1835 could this be your Henry. At the moment I do not have any connection to my family .
My Henry's father was Joseph Isles born in 1826 and was married to Sarah Thompson they lived at Halls Block in Calverly.
I would be extreemly interested in any information on the Isles family from this part of Yorkshire, you can contact me on simonisles@aol.com.

I also have a Henry ISLES in my family tree - he lived in the Pudsey area and was born in approx 1838. He married Hannah STRICKLAND in 1859 and they had 3 sons, Rueben, Edward and Joseph.

I'm interested in the ISLES (also spelt ILES or HILES) family from the Pudsey, Calverley, Stanningley areas of West Yorkshire - have managed to trace the family back as far as early 1800s and I'm sure they go back further than that and we still have relatives living in the area!

Looking for info on Elizabeth Ann ISLES, b. approx 1864 in Hampshire, England. Her father was Harry Isles and mother was Sarah (last name unknown). She was married to George BROWN in 1886 and they had 2 children; after Mr. Brown's death she had 3 children with Joseph DENNETT; and, after Mr. Dennett's death, married a Mr. TOMPKINS. My great grandfather's name was Stephen Isles whose son, Palmer, was my grandfather. I never knew Stephen as he was deceased before I was born. The family, as I knew it, lived in Mechanicville, NY but I don't know from where they came originally. My mother is now deceased and I'm interested in finding out more about this side of the family. i just talked to my father which is Donald Dorsey Turner. His mother's maiden name was Blanche Emaline Ross, this might be some relation to your family, Dorsey William Turner (my fathers father) was born in KY. maybe Paris, KY and Blanche Ross was born close to Little Rock, AR.

Don't know if this will help you. I was able to trace some more on my lineage. My GGGrandmother seems to have remarried into the Islas family right here where I live! But some moved to AZ, for it was there that my grandfather visited them. Frank Islas was her husband's name... and I think there was a Nancy too. My gggrandmother was Mary. Apparently she raised her son with the Islases, (but he kept the last name Lowe), while in Las Cruces... with family ties in El Paso and southern NM.

Theresa: This is so exciting!!! I have been wanting to find out more about my GGGrandparents for years. Nobody seems to know anything about them. My Dad didn't know anything either and I promised him I would find out but he died before I did. Anway, his Grandparents were Frank and Mary Islas. I am researching ISLES ancestors in Perthshire, Scotland.

The earliest version of the surname (ELGE) had been documented in nearby Dundee as early as the 15th century (per Black's Surnames of Scotland)

The family name in Perthshire has shifted over the years, originally documented as ELGE in the 17th and early 18th century, transitioning to ELDGE about 1735 and again to ISLES about 1780.

I would be especially interested in corresponding with anyone researching this family in the Parishes of Caputh and Clunie.
