Blissfield - Elwyn D Isley, age 94, of Blissfield, formerly of Adrian, passed away on Wed Sept 19, 2007, at Blissfield Place Assisted Living. He was born on Aug 18, 1913, in Wellsville to Earl and Mabelle (Ganun) Isley. On Sept 12, 1936, Elwyn married his beloved wife of 70 years, Alice Marie Turbin. She preceded him in death on Jan 1, 2007.
Elwyn graduated from Blissfield High school in 1931, and went on to attend County Normal for two years. He and his wife devoted their lives to the Lord, family and farming. He was a member of the Raisin Center Friends Church, Director Emeritus of the Toledo Rescue Mission and a generous supporter of the Southern Michigan Railroad Society. One of Elwyn's favorite Bible verses was that of Psolms 90:12: "So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom." He was always able to tell you how many days he had been on this earth. Elwyn lived 34, 365 days before joining his Lord and Savior. Elwyn enjoyed his summer home in Michigamme, MI., where he loved to fish. He was never happier than when he was cutting firewood with his chain saw. Some other favorite activities included cheering on the Detroit Tigers and making maple syrup and apple buttter.
Surviving are five sons, Robert (Rose) Hendry of Croswell, Loren (Kathleen) Isley of Adrian, Thomas (Marian) Isley of Sumerset, WI, Dr Ronald (Brenda) Isley of Durham, NC, and Kenneth (Lori Mitsis) Isley of Adrian; one brother, Jay (Jean) Isley of Blissfield; 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Alice, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Isley; daughter-in-law Mary Isley; one brother, Dr Homer Isley; and two granddaughters, Jody Hendry and Michelle Isley.
Funeral services for Elwyn will be held on Sunday at 1 pm. at the Raisin Center Friends Church in Raisin Twp with Pastor Jimmy Lang officiating. Burial will follow in Palmyra Cemetery in Palmyra. Visitation will take place today from 2 to 5 pm and 7 to 9 pm at the Tagsold Funeral Home in Blissfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Raisin Center Friends Church or Hospice of Lenawee. Envelopes will be available at the church.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt appreciation to the staff and residents at the Blissfield Place Assisted Living for all the wonderful care Elwyn received throughout these last months of his life.
