Israel family of Nova Scotia & Israel family DNA group

My husband's earliest known ancestor was Balthazar Israel. Notes from a famiy genealogy sheet say he was "a German, came to New York WITH HIS BROTHER about 12 years before the American Revolution." ... "He went to Digby, Nova Scotia with two dependents in 1783 from New York on the ship "Joseph".

I have found nothing else about this brother, so there may be related lines of which I am not currently aware. Any speculation about who the brother might be would be of interest!

We started an Israel family DNA group on Ancestry.com, based on his DNA test, and are hoping to find other family members. If you know anything about this family, or are interested in joining the DNA group, feel free to write to me at svickery@knology.net and go online to the Ancestry DNA site to request membership in the group. (If you do this, please do send me an e-mail as I want to approve you right away!) (My husband's family is one which changed the original name from Israel in the early 20th century, but he is a direct descendant of Balthazar Israel)

Hi My husband's great great great great grandfather was Jeremiah Israel born in Risca c1786 although I have seen 1777 somewhere - I have looked at census returns etc and couldn't find any other Israels in Risca so was wondering if Jeremiah and William may have been related. Jeremiah's first son was called William. Who was Anne?
It would be great to hear from you.
Hazel Israel

I am particularly interetsed in Jeremiah Israel born in Risca c1786 married to Anne - they were in Dowlais in 1812 for the birth of their son William but did not get married there. I would be very grateful if anyone has any information.

Sorry I misspelled a surname in the previous post and I'm just going to input it again.
Does anyone know of a lady named Ophelia or Ophilia or Orphilia Israel, who was known by her friends as Frankie.
Frankie Israel was born in about 1921 in Scotland, possibly Glasgow. Her family was originally from the West Indies. Frankie served in WW2, in the ATS, defending England from enemy planes. She met and married Eugene or Gene Summons, and moved to live with hims in New Jersery, USA, in 1946. They may have split up shortly after the marriage. My grandmother served with Frankie during the war and would love to know what happened to her. I have photos if anyone is related to Frankie.
from janetchopkins@hotmail.com

Ophelia Israel, nicknamed Frankie, born in Scotland

Hi!
I'm posting to see if anyone knows of a lady named Ophelia or Ophilia or Orphilia Israel, who was known by her friends as Frankie.
Frankie Israel was born in about 1921 in Scotland, possibly Glasgow. Her family was originally from the West Indies. Frankie served in WW2 in the Auxiliary Territorial Service, over England. She met and married Eugene or Gene Summons, and moved to live with him in New Jersey, USA, in 1946. My Grandmother served with Frankie in the war, and they sadly lost touch in the late 1940's. On ancestry.co.uk I found an ships record showing Orphelia Israel, age 24, arriving i New York City. I think the marriage to Eugene Summons didn't work out. Does anyone know of Frankie after that?

Dear Ms. Prejean,
I would love to know your line of descent from James Davenport Israel and any thing else that you can tell me about the LA Israel line. Sometimes my email does not come through. I do not know why. Snail mail always gets to me. I can take your line back before the Revolution. How serious a researcher are you? Do you collect documents and photos? They are important to me.
I shall be in and out of town for much of the summer so if I do not reply as quickly as you wish, just send me another, more strident note. I shall not be offended. I do know a number of your LA cousins.
Best wishes,
Rob Israel

My Dear Ms. Prejean,
I think that you will find James Davenport Israel's parents were Col. William Israel (1782-1846) and his wife Elizabeth of Baltimore. This was an old and distinguished family from Philadelphia. If you need more information, I can be reached at
Jrobertisrael@aol.com or at
65 Spring Hollow Lane
Fairview, NC 28730.
I shall be happy to exchange data with you. I would need to know your line of descent in LA.
Rob Israel

I do know quite a bit about both lines. I have 6 or 8 Israels who have had their Y chromosome DNA tested. I shall compare what you sent with what I have.
J.
Dear Elizabeth,
Please tell me where your Israel Israel lived. I suspect that he is not the one that I know about in Philadelphia, PA.
The Y-chromosome passes unchanged from father to son to grandson, etc. It is most useful for testing whether two males with the same surname are related. Since there have been females between your sons and Israel Israel, we could not establish a connection in this way.
Rob Israel

Dear James,
I am sorry to have been so long replying to your message. I have been out of town with a new grandson. James Davenport Israel was born in Baltimore (I think). His father was Col. William Pusey Israel. James enlisted in the Mexican War and was subsequently discharged in New Orleans. James was the son of Wm's second wife Jane Elizabeth _____.
William Pusey Israel, in turn was the son of Joseph Israel and Susanna Pusey. Much of their lives were spent in Philadelphia (his home) and New Castle DL. All of the above were Christian. Joseph's father was Michael Israel. He was Jewish. I have much more information on this family. Will you send your line to me Rob

I have a whole book of material devoted to the descendants of James Davenport Israel so there is much more for you. I also have six feet of shelves devoted to your family in Philadelphia and elsewhere.
You may want to communicate with me at Jrobertisrael@aol.com. I live at:
65 Spring Hollow Lane, Fairview, NC 28730. I always get that mail though I am often out of town seeing family or opera or doing research.
For quite a while I have been trying to find more information about James Davenport Israel---He and Emma Perrault are my gggrandparents. I have the information regarding the Mexican war, etc. but finding more of his background, parents, siblings if any, has been difficult. Sometime ago, I attempted unsuccessfully to contact a lady who wrote on this site that she had photos, which I would love to have if they might be available. I am in southwest Louisiana, near the area where James and Emma lived, and would love to hear from any other of their descendants.
Elsie Cary Prejean

Rob and Judy, I realize it's been some time since these threads were posted but I'm hoping one of you can help. I started doing family research about 1990 and of course I'm also a decendent of J.D. Israel and Emma Perrault. The family story was that James was an English Jew who came to America c.1840 to fight in the war with Mexico and eventually settled in LA. However it is only a story. Other than their marriage and children I have never been able to find anything on James. Emma's family is of course from Canada.

I haven't been looking for James as of late so this thread that has him coming from Pennsylvania is very interesting. Can we re-open this? I'm very interested to learn more of James.

Darwin

I think they were jewish - Israel Israel's son John Issac Israel married in Liverpool and some of his children married in a synagogue - but not all. All I have on the marriage certificate of John Issac Israel is that his father was Israel Israel and he was a general dealer. John Issac says on the marriage certificate that he was born in Newington which at the time (1823) was in Surrey. I cant find any trace of Israel Israel in any of the records of the Great Synagogue or the Bevis Marks records so I am a bit stuck for now.
