Hey. I have in my family Teofil Jablonowski (not Jablonski) who moved to America from Poland about 1907. He was a brother of my great grandfather. In Poland he lived near Żelazna Rządowa (at that times near Russia).

Maybe we`re telling about the same person. If yes, please let me know about it.

I'm resesarching Jablonski. I don't have much. My grandmother Estelle Jablonski, b. 1913 married Frank Praski, b. 1915, in Chicago, Ill, Nov 1933. They had 3 children, Dolores, Robert and Joan. They divorced before 1951. I think she passed away in the 1960's, in Chicago. I believe she had 2 sisters and 1 brother, and possibly in 1930 lived in New Jersey. In any of your information? Please contact me at RJPaine@comcast.net. Thanks.

I was going thru postings and saw yours. I'm trying to find my grandmothers family. She was Estelle T. Jablonski and according to the 1930 census she lived in Bayonne City, New Jersey with her parents John and Mary and siblings Henry, Loretta and Mary. Estelle was born in 1913. In 1933 she married Frank Praski in Chicago, Ill. Those are the only 2 pieces of info I could find. Do you know of any of these Jablonski's? Thanks.

Hi,

I'd suggest the following for finding birth date/place for John/Jan:

1 - application for marriage filed with the county. This should give at least an age if not an exact date and most likely his parents' names.

2 - marriage record from the church. Not a certificate but a photocopy or transcript of the entire content of the entry in the church register. Certificates only include the basic info needed to provide proof the marriage took place, but often there is additional info such as birthplace and parents' names.

2 - baptismal records for his children born in the USA. Again, not certificates but photocopies/transcripts. And you want to obtain the records for *all* of the children, since info can vary from one priest to another. The birthplace of the parents is usually provided, but one baptismal record may contain only the country/region while another may give the exact village name.

3 - naturalization records. If John began the process to become a citizen prior to his death (even if he didn't finish it) there will be at least a declaration of intent filed.

4 - death records. Death certificate, obituary or death notice in the local paper, cemetery burial records, tombstone inscription, funeral home records, etc. Any of these may contain his birthdate or at the very least age at death.

Census records can contain conflicting info from one census to another, as you've seen. The responses to the census taker's questions were given verbally and could easily have misunderstood. It's likely that when the census taker visited, John was at work and his wife provided his information. Or John, who was an immigrant and would probably have spoken with a Polish accent, could have been mis-heard when he gave his answers. Census takers just wrote down things as they heard them, which is why surnames can be so mis-spelled in census records. It wasn't important to have a "correct" spelling for surnames back then as it is today.

If you haven't found the PolandGenWeb site, you might want to take a look at it: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~polwgw/frames.html

The Basics of Polish Research is probably the best place to start.

-MJ

Re: John Jablonski from Poland and Milford, Massachusetts

MJ,

Thank you for your response. I had seen the same census records you reported, and I was confused by the conflicting information. I know information about his children (one of whom was my grandfather), so I have names and birthdates for them. I was hoping to get more information about John's family of origin and where and when he was born. My grandfather told me that his father was born in 1885 in Krakow, Poland, but I don't know if that's the city or Province. I can't confirm the date of birth since census records are conflicting. I wasn't able to find any civil certificates for John and Annie, so I don't know how to get more info on his parents. John died when my grandfather was only 13 years old, so unfortunately we don't have a lot of information. Any suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated.

Best,
Donna

Also, was he ever married
to you Mom? Were they divorced? I need some-
thing to go on if I am to help you find your
roots. We could be cousins you know.
THis is a weird story, but I have a brother named mike Jablonski. I dont really know all the details, but my mother was at some MIA event for veterans day. And she met a lady who told the exact same story of michael drowning in a river in vietnam, but she said it was in 1970? She was wearing a braclett with his name. So she had to be connected to him somehow. I have been hearing this story since I was little. I would love to see your memorial page.

RE: PAUL R. JABLONSKI, BAY CITY, MICH.

I am the daughter of Paul R. Jablonski and Grace Ann Lewandowski. I have two brothers still in Michigan, Paul R. Jr. in Clinton Township and George J. in Kawkawlin, my only sister passed away a few years ago, Maureen Burke. My father's grandfather was Joseph who was one of the founders of St. Stanislaus Church in Bay City, Mich. He had four brothers, Aloysius, Edwin and Robert of Bay City and Harry of Toledo; and he also had seven sisters, Mrs. Bernadette Marcotte, Mrs. Jean R. Murray and Mrs. Betty J. Fletcher of Bay City, Mrs. Emily Aymer of Fairgrove, Mrs. Geraldine Dobson of Detroit and Mrs. Evelyn Waterbury and Mrs. Mary Ann Goehring, both of Des Moines, Iowa. This information is very old so I don't know if they are still alive.
My father was an editor for the Bay City Times for many years before his death on Feb. 20, 1960, my mother, Grace died on Nov.14, 1978. My father was born on August 22, 1909 and my mother was born on Nov. 21, 1908.
I know there must be many relatives that I have out there but I have been living in Brockton, Massachusetts for the past 30 years and have lost contact with all but my 2 brothers who still reside in Michigan. Hope this is of interest to someone. It is really interesting to see how many Jablonski's are out there. I have 5 children the youngest are twin girls who are seniors at Brockton High School.
Wishing all the best to all of you Jablonski's and relatives...

Judith Sylvia
Brockton, MA

I don't know what the connection is,all I know is I told my father what i was doing and he said whatever I find out I find out. Then 2 weeks later I told him what I found so far and that I was going to find out about my mothers side of the family with or without his help and he said I have a name for you to look upand he said jablonski and then he wouldn't say any more,so I looked up jablonski and that was the first time I have come across anything with the lemanski name,Which was my mothers maiden name on my birth certificate. So I don't know what the connection is except for the fact that I found the lemanski name through the jablonski name. This is all so very confusing and frustrating to me. I keep running into brick walls and my father will not give me any help and I was so excited when I found you that I thought you would be able to give me all my answers,I'm sorry I don't mean to pester you but if you can tell me anything at all I would be very greatful. I live in hudson florida and I am planning on going to worcester MA. in july to see what I can find there.Does the name lingis ring a bell? Was any of your family in the MASS. area? Thank you so much for your time and please let me know if you have any info.
Thanks
Mary

Has anyone come across this name in their Jablonski search?
My great-grandfather, August Jablonowski was born in the area near Gumbinnen (near Koingsburg) what is in Russia now, was born in 1870 to Adam and Charlotte Jablonowski. He married Marie Skabovius (spelling of this is questionable) who was from Neidenberg (what is now Poland). They eventually emigrated to Germany (Bochum area) and immigrated to the United States in 1902. I find it difficult to understand that a couple whould have only one child. I have been unable to "connect" with any siblings, or other family members. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
