Hello,
If you are still active, would you please contact me? I am from St Louis, and my grandma worked at Jaccards as a young girl. She wore the Hope Diamond for them when it was on tour with the Court of Jewels Exhibition. I am working with a company in England who is producing the documentary for the Smithsonian and would like to make as many connections as I can for the St. Louis component and hopefully come across any pictures associated with the event.
Thank you.
Nicole
I have a gold pocket watch that I inherited from my grandfather when he died in 1947. On the face it says "Mermod-Jaccard & King, Co. St. Louis." On the works it says "Illinois Watch Co." Based on the serial number on the works, it was manufactured in 1906. The names on the face are from the jewelery store that sold it. Large retailers would ask a manufacturer such as Illinois Watch Co. to build a watch and put the company's name on it, it was called "Private labeling". It was a common practice. This is no doubt the situation with the clock you have.

Hi Wendy,
Pretty sure my ancestor's family was from the St. Louis area. I know that part of the family branched out to Kansas. I think that was Eugene if memeory serves me. I have a lovely history that the St Louis Public Library sent me. But there may be a link between your husband's and my family. My grandfather was Monroe Jaccard and I'm not sure but I think his father was George. I have recently found another family member that I had never heard of before who has information for me but she hasn't contacted me with the new info yet. If your in-laws recognize any of my names that would be great. Anyway, I'm sure that one way or another we are all related as the jewelry stores were owned by differant members of the same family. Look forward to hearing from you. E-mail me if you like. Thanks. Cheryl

Well we are shirt tail cousins. Roy (Leroy) Jaccard was born 1889. Other children were Laura (my grandmother) Flora, Lenore, Caroline, Elizabeth, William and Leroy was the youngest. I do not have too much on the "Jaccards" other than this information. Have a bit of information on Winzell Jaccard, father of this bunch. The originial name was Weintzel Tschackart and he was from Bohemia. Think they consider Bohemia as Austria now. I have his originial discharge from the Union Army dated 6 July 1865. I can give you some dates as to his marriage and I also have a picture of him and his wife Sarah Minerva Richardson. They are holding two children which are Laura and Flora. I would be glad to scan and email any of this that you would like. Laura C. Foreman-nee-Roberts.

I would love to have some pictures of the exhibition that Mermod and Jaccard were showing their items for sale. Thank You for your information and if you have any other info it would surely be appreciated as it is one of my husbands "favorite" clocks.

I have a Seth Thomas #2 Cherrywood Case. This is a one weight clock, time only. The lower glass is painted Mermod and Jaccard's-Corner of Broadway and Locust-St.Louis. Inside there is a label that is dated 1904. The woman we bought this clock from said, "It was used in their(Mermod and Jaccard's) repair shop to set the watches and clocks because it was so accurate." I think it may have been a St, Louis Worlds Fair Exhibition Piece??? You may email me if any other info may be of value to you.

Thank you for inviting a response. I purchased a small bude vase at an antique store near or in the French Quarters of New Orleans. It is sterling and underneath it gives the makers name, Mermod Jaccard Jewelry & Co. I bought it in 1991 and paid almost three-hundred dollars for it, which I'm embarrass to admit. But I was curious about the name this morning for some reason. I do like the "little thing" however. Would you by chance happen to know the value of such a piece? Best regards, Kevin M.
Hi,

I am currently doing research on Mermod, Jaccard and Company in St. Louis and its relationship with the Louisiana Purchase Exposition (the St. Louis World's Fair in 1904). I'm intrigued by your post because I've been hitting some dead ends. There is quite a strong possibility that the clock that you have was made especially for the Expo. Mermod & Jaccard had a huge exhibit at this fair (also at the Columbian Expo in 1893), and they made numerous pieces specifically to showcase and sell at the St. Louis Fair. Clocks were definitely included. Please reply if this is of interest. Thanks.

Joshua, I have not visited this site in a while and was interested in your post. My father was Oliver Anthony Jaccard, son of Monroe Jaccard (of those famous Jaccard's of St. Louis). My father was married to Ruby too, although I am sure it was not your mother :) Ruby's maiden name was Barnett, from Emenice, Mo. My dad has been gone since 1979. Cheryl has posted many times on this site, but her email address keeps changing and I cannot keep up with her, she has more information, check the site for her name and give her a try. She has gathered quite a bit of information. Just a side note, my brother has a grandson named Joshua, so the names keep going! I find it very interesting how the same names keep popping up!

Take care, and good luck in your search.

Joyce

I Joshua Jaccard, was born and raised in Kansas city. My fathers name is Louis david Jaccard and he married, now Ruby Jaccard. They raised 5 kids in Piper Kansas, just west of downtown about 15 or 20 minutes. I have been told that it was my great grandfather that ran the JACCARD'S jewelry store off 815 Main St., 1034 Main St., and 1017 Walnut. I am trying to locate The Jaccard's Sidewalk Clock, a familiar downtown landmark. I would also like to know any information related to our family. Thank yoy.
Mermod, Jaccard & King Jewelry Co.

My brother used to work for a moving company and was given a clock and handed the clock off to me. On the bottom of the clock there is a label with Mermod, Jaccard & King Jewelry Co. on it and is dated 1904. I was trying to look anything up about this company just out of curiosity. I used to live in the St. Louis area 18 years ago. Does this company still exist and can I find out anything about this clock. The clock is not in very good condition but being almost 100 years old I find it very interesting. If anyone has any information on this please let me know.
