My Jacintho family arrived from The Azores in the early 1880's. My gg grand-father was a Spainard from Andalusia who married a Portugese woman from the island of Pico in The Azores and then subsequently immigrated to Maui, Hawaii where he lived the remainder of his life.
According to my late grandfather he was educated, and he wanted to "escape" from Spain for reasons unkown, I think it was to avoid conscription. I was not aware of any other Jacintho's in the islands besides my family which originated on Maui.
