Jacka Surname DNA Study and Posting (2001) update

New email address: alan.jacka@verizon.net

Dear Jacka Family,
The most important news, deals with the possibility of identifying family members by using DNA testing. Anyone interested in participating in this Jacka DNA study? If so please contact me using the email address above.

With this posting I am updating my posting of 2001.

I am working on the Jacka family history. I would like to make contact with others in the Jacka family to share information. I have traveled to Cornwall England and have collected considerable information about the Jacka name and my direct Jacka Family. The Jacka name came from the Cornish names Jago, and Jacco. The more I get involved with this project, the more I feel that it is our generation’s obligation to document our heritage for our families. We are blessed with a name like Jacka that makes this project a great deal easier than a family name such as Jones or Smith. I have published a draft Jacka tree on Ancestry.com if you are interested, please email me and I will send you an invite to visit the site.

We have identified several Jacka clans (mobs) that originated in Cornwall England and immigrated to America in the 1800s. I have collected information / names of a number of these families. We have identified several areas across the country that seem to be the originating points for most American Jacka families.

Keweenaw County area, of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan

Iowa County ( Mineral Point) and Lafayette Counties of Wisconsin

Pennsylvania

Have reason to believe individuals from Eastern Europe, Ukraine and Poland are using the Jacka name. Believe that they may have anglicized their family name and are not related to the Jacka clan from Cornwall.

My direct line immigrated from St. Day Cornwall, England (c1850-1860) to SW Wisconsin areas mentioned above and moved on to Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska and Kansas. With many staying for several generations in various Kansas locations and Ness County KS. in particular. They now are living throughout the United States. Joseph Jacka b 1835 and wife Ann Toy, started this branch of the family in 1857 when they married in Shullsburg, Lafayette County WI. We are still trying to locate a brother of Joseph by the name of John Jacka b about 1837.

Okay, now you ask what is the catch? I can assure you this is NOT a commercial venture and all possible precautions will be used to protect your privacy, to the extent you desire. The web page is provided free of charge. If you share information with me, that you do not desire to be posted on the web I will not enter the info into the computer. I would ask that you consider the sharing of at least the names and birth place / dates, if at all possible. Names of all individuals believed to be still living, are listed on the internet as Living Jacka without a first name. All I would ask in return is a desire to learn about and to conserve our heritage and to consider sharing your family history, photos etc. I do think the Jacka name has a fascinating history. Hope to hear from you. Please submit any information or comments.
Sincerely yours,
ALAN W. JACKA
