Looking for info re a great grandaunt, maiden name Jessie Hunter b1875 Lasswade, Edinburgh.

Diaries of the family show she married a Jackson and then lived in Glasgow. A vague memory within the family hints he may have been Joe Jackson and they may have had children Matthew and Euphemia but this is not totally reliable.

Have been able to find no details of a marriage or children (there is a Jessie Hunter/Jackson marriage but the parent info on the certificate is not a match - parents should be Euphemia Alves & John Hunter).
Jacksons who moved from WV to Iowa before 1860

Looking for the children of Rachel Jackson (born about 1824). She lived in West Virginia until others in her family moved westward. Her husband had deserted her with three or four children. She lived with Thomas and Mary Spencer in Polk County, Iowa in 1860. (Mary Spencer was Rachel's mother and Thomas Spencer a second marriage for her mother, Mary.) I found her still living with another Spencer family in Taney County, Mo in 1870, with children Mary 15 and Harry 21 (not sure about Harry being one of her children). Her other two sons were William (born 1844) and Daniel (born 1852). The oldest, William, was born in Virginia and the other two were born in Ohio, possibly Columbiana County, Ohio. I may have found (but not sure) Rachel Jackson living in Grape Grove, Missouri in the 1880 census. She was boarding with A. J. Lozier and kept house and was 57 years old. I have no other informtion on any of the above (William Jackson, Daniel Jackson or Mary Jackson) and would appreciate knowing if this rings any "bells" with any Jackson researchers?
My family "notes" shows that William Jackson married Marion Shearer in Scotland in 1815 and that the had a daughter names Margaret in 1816. I believe they immigrated to the United States and lived - at least for a time - in or near St. Lawrence County. I have yet to find any evidence to support any of this. Any assistance or hints would be greatly appreciated.

English Illinois Jacksons from Joseph Jackson

Anyone out there looking for facts on a Joseph Jackson, b. 1836 in England and died in Illinois? I've uncovered many facts on him, including three wives: Margaret Edge (or Hidge), Angeline Massie (or Massey) and Hannah Mary Evans (later remarried as Einkopf). Between these wives, he had 11 children:
Mary, John W., Thomas, Elizabeth, Clara Belle (Laurance) Laura, Joseph K., unnamed male, George Washington, Louisa V. (Uicker) and Albert E Jackson.
Joseph was born Dec. 4, 1836 in Cumberland, England, to John Jackson and Ellenor Knight. He emmigrated from England to Illinois in about the mid- to late-1850s. Here, he first lived in Magnolia, IL, working as a brick laborer. He then fought in the Civil War for the 4th IL Cavalry, later the 12th IL Cavalry, Co. K. After the war, he farmed in Versailles Twp, in Brown County, IL in 1870. By 1880, he later was a railroad section boss for one iteration of the Santa Fe railroad. That decade he built his third family, but died in Dana, IL, Dec. 13 1889. He is buried in the Dana, IL, cemetery with a Civil War monument. Some of his children from his second marriage moved to Missouri and those from his third marriage moved to South Dakota and Oregon after his death. Anyone looking for facts about him or any of these family members, I'm interested in sharing information and filling in my blanks. BTW, he was my second great grandfather with Angeline.
Have pictures of Jackson Family from Columbus, Indiana USA

This week I attended a yard sale and asked about a bag of Jackson Family pictures on one of the tables. The lady said they had belonged to someone she knew and she was hoping someone from the family would come to the sale and she was going to give them to that person. So... on her behalf, I am looking for a member of this Columbus, Indiana family that seems to have a branch in California. Pictures are free to anyone who has a family connection.
Some of the pictures have names, some have dates, some have both, some have no identification, some were treated like a postcard with a small message on the back. The group includes one wedding invitation. Most are 1940s through 1980s.

Early Jackson-Haney marriage in SC? Added on Date: 9/04/08

Looking for the parents of my great-great grandfather, Daniel Jackson Haney, b. 1815 in SC. I know there were a number of Haneys and a number of Jacksons in Union Co., SC before he was born, including a couple of Daniel Jacksons. I wonder of one of them might have been his maternal grandfather.

If anyone has any information about a Jackson daughter who married a Haney before 1815, I would appreciate it.

-- Ralph

Reuben Jackson born Oct. 28, 1750 in North Carolina Confusion

There are a number of Reuben Jackson's on Ancestry's trees born Oct. 28, 1750 in North Carolina. He died between 1812 & 1855 depending on which tree you look at. His place of death is listed in a number of different states. He lived in Surry Co. N.C. much of the time. He had at least 3 wives if you believe the info on the various trees. These include Susannah Richardson, Laviner Crouch, & Annis Ligon. It appears to me they are different Reuben Jacksons, and everybody is grabbing at the Oct. 28, 1750 birthdate. I've never seen anything about a divorce from any of his wives. On some of these trees he married again before his earlier wife died. A couple of people have tried to tell me my ancestor is this Reuben born Oct. 28, 1750. The info I have on my Reuben was found in an old county history of Neosho Co. Kansas in a bio on Thomas Jackson. Thomas is a known brother of my ancestor John. The bio states Thomas was born about 1805 in North Carolina. His father was Reuben Jackson, a veteran of the War of 1812. In 1821 Reuben took his family to Fulton Co. Indiana, but later returned to North Carolina where he died at the age of 105. The history doesn't mention a wife, but have been told by a reliable source she was Annis Ligon, a widow whose name was Jane Annis Dunavant prior to marriage. There is some question as to whether she may have taken her stepfather's name. I've never found anything to support my Reuben living to 105, seems unlikely he'd be going off to war at age 62. DNA shows a close connection with my line & the William Jackson (died 1792) & Margaret Wilson line in Guilford Co. N.C. From what I've been told the connection should be about 1 generation back. That line is known to have come from Chester Co. Pennsylvania. The Reuben Jackson born 1750 parents are usually, but not always, listed as Isaac Jackson & Mary Miller of Chester Co. Pennsylvania. My guess is that my Reuben is likely a nephew of the one born 1750. Anybody have any info to sort the Reubens out?

Jackson Family from Missouri to California

My great grandfather, Fredrick Charles Jackson, was born in Lompoc in 1882. His parents, William (b. Tennessee) and Mary Childs Francis Jackson (b. Missouri), married about 1863 and landed in California in the spring of 1864, San Luis Obispo, then Lompoc in Santa Barbara County. Fred had 7 direct siblings (Logan, Grant, Robert, Adeline, Laura, Julia, Harriet) all born in California 1864-1884(except Julia, born in Nevada) and 6 "half" siblings (Balsora or Sarah, Rose, William Coleman, Walter King, Thomas Jefferson and John Bruce) all born in Missouri (and all traveled to California with their father and new wife) from father's previous marriage to Martha Jane Bruce (she died in 1860 in Missouri). I am most interested in the Southern California branch of the Jackson family as until about 10 years ago, I believed Fred to be an only child, therefore, have very little information other than facts and figures. In addition to many photos of Fred, I have one photograph of his brother, Logan George Jackson and one photograph of their mother, Mary (nee Francis). More than happy to share what I have with anyone who might be interested.

Jacksons of Northampton Co NC

I'm seeking information about Jacksons shown to be living in Northampton Co NC in 1790-1820 census; Benj., Daniel, Edmund, William or perhaps unlisted others. My GGG Grandfather Alfred or Alford Jackson was b. 1814 in NC within 5 miles of the VA line. He was orphaned at an early age and was raised by an unknown cousin. He possibly spent some time in Wake Co before traveling to Al & then to MS by early 1830's. He ran away from his cousin at age 16. His census information indicates both his parents were also born in NC. By process of elimination I'm trying to refine the search for his parents.

Jackson mystery

I am looking to unlock the mystery of a Farley ( could be Fasley, Hasley or Harley, it is hard to make out exactly the name) and Dexter Jackson. Dexter's maiden name is Massey.
I believe these are my great uncles son and wife, but am not sure. My great uncle was Ed Jackson, a policeman in Girard, Alabama. He was shot and killed on September 13, 1895 in the line of duty. He left behind a wife and child. Dexter and Farley fit the time frame and area of the rest of my relatives.

Just wondering if anyone out there can make the connection for me.

Everything I have found (probate/receipts) just says "Mrs" JACKSON. IF I could convince the only living male JACKSON relative (that I know of) to do DNA testing, what would it prove/show? How many generations back would it show?
Thanks
marykell@aol.com
Jackson's in Tennessee, 1800's

I am searching for a Martha Jackson who was born between 1822 and 1830. She married a man with the last name of Thompson. They lived in and around the following counties in Tennessee: Bradley,Rhea, Meigs, McMinn, Knox. She is on the 1860 census with Richard Thompson and 3 daughters, Caroline,Eliza Jane and Manerva. She shows up again on the 1870 Census in Rhea County with only the 3 girls. On the 1860 census she is shown to have been born about 1822 with Richard being born 1830. On the Rhea County census in 1870 she is shown as age 40 (which I believe would be more correct). Does anyone know of this family? Even though Richard was shown in 1860 census, I belive Richard might not have been his first name (I can't find him before 1860 nor after but know he was in the Civil War).
Did Martha go to Rhea county after he died to be near her family (I am not sure that Jackson was her maiden name but have been told it was). Did she and Richard move there before he went into the service? They farmed in Bradley county but did not own the property (or so it appears).
One of Martha's granddaugters lived in Decatur/Cleveland , Tn. area all her life. Her name was Minnie Bell Perry Cecil. Minnie's mother was Eliza Jane Thompson Perry and Richard and Martha were Eliza's parents. Minnie Belle was married to Ben Cecil and they had several children.
I would appreciate any leads that anyone can give me.
Thank you.
Wanda

He married Mary Ann Bywater in 1895 and I would like to know if he was the son of Elizabeth Jackson who lived 'next door' to Mary Ann in 1881 in Wolverhampton. Mary Ann's first husband, William Gaunt Bywater, died in 1888.

Hutchins,Hutchings,Irby, Jackson

I am trying to find more info and direct decendants on the Hutchings or Hutchins, Jackson, and Irby family lines.
Here is what I do have. Sarah Ann(Hutchins)Anglin is my ggggrandmother. Edmond R.(born 1812)and Mary Hutchins were her parents and they lived in Leake and Scott Counties Mississippi in the 1850 and 1860 census for that area.
They were married in Mississippi in 1836. The parents of Edmond R Hutchins were John Hutchins and Sarah(Sally)Irby Jackson. I had a feeling that Irby was probably a surname and looked and there it was. If you have info to share to fill in the blanks i would greatly appreciate it. Feel free to email me direct. I found these clues at familysearch.org with some help from the message boards.

Thanks,
Richard
ric3963@yahoo.com

Jackson - Halifax Co. VA

My stone wall is Marquis Jackson who married Martha Medley, daughter of Isaac Medley, in 1825 in Halifax Co., VA. Marriage record shows his name as "Markus". The family story is that one of the earlier, very young, Jackson boys served with Lafayette and was "overcome with the fumes of alcohol"while on canteen duty. When he saw the boy's young age, Lafayette took him under his wing and due to that kindness, the Jackson boy vowed that the first-born son of each generation would be named for Lafayette. Apparently this tradition continued until my grandfather, Isaac Lafayette Gamewell, decided he would not saddle his son with that name. Marquis and Martha Jackson had a daughter, Martha, who married Francis Asbury (Frank) Gamewell. My 90-year-old aunt who has been researching for years, has not been able to go further back with this Jackson line. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
