Arthur William Jacobi

I am stuck and could really use some help. Am searching for a Arthur William Jacobi b. 11-18-1902 in Door County Wisconsin. Married Helen Palubecki on 10-21-1926 in Waukegan Il. Arthur legally changed his first name in the 1930's to George. That is about all I am absolutely sure of. Mom mentioned bits and pieces of information she talks about an Anton but she was not sure where he fit in, she also mentioned a Matilda as a grandmother and I did find a John & Mathilda but not sure if that is them because in the list of children George is listed, but if he did not legally change his name until 1930's should it not be listed as Arthur? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much. Darlene

My grandpa was Carl Jacobi who is a son of Minnie and Albert. I've learned that my Great Great Grandfather was Louis Jacobi, and my great great great grandfather was John Jacobi born in 1807. That's about as far as I got. My grandfater told me when he as alive that our reletives moved to the US from Canada, and grandpa Albert came over when he was about six which explains the 1880 census in St. Clair County Michigan. My name is Mark Jacobi

Mark,
My father was the Orthodonist in Iowa. I was born and raised in Clinton. When he died in 1959 I moved to Calif. My mother died two years ago in Oregon. She was 90. I guess that you and I are cousins. A couple of generations apart.
Have you ever had contact with any of Miltons kids?
I am sending you my e-mail. I am retired and had surgery about 3 months ago. I am still fighting problems from it.
My e-mail is: fjacobi@att.net. Congrats on the new addition to the Jacobi family.
Fred (I use my middle name rather than Albert)

My name is Mark Jacobi son of Robert and grandson of Carl. I live in Rolling Prairie, IN now but grew up in Illinois. The only thing I new about Albert was that he was an Orthodontist and lived in Iowa. My grandpa Carl was a Lutheran minister and retired out in California before he died of a heart attack. I have three sisters: Sue, Barb, and Cheryl, and a brother Steve. Recently my wife Tammy and I had a new baby arrive Annelise Marie Jacobi. It was quite unexpected since my wife turned 45 this year, and I am 44.

My Father was Carl and Milton's brother. My dad died in July on 1959. That was the last time I saw either Milt or Carl. I know that my sister kept in touch with Milt and Jen his wife till they passed away. Milton had three children (Micky, Jackie, and Steve) My dad Albert Frederick had three childern as well. Carol, Albert Frederick III (that is me) and Cathie. I too have very little knowledge of the remainder of the Jacobi family. Any information would be welcomed and I will do the same. I live now in Indianapolis and am 68 yrs old.

Hi cousin,

Which Polley sister are you descended from? I have a photo of Marie and I think her mother, Sophie Wesche Jacobi, and one of her daughters and a baby. I'm not sure which daughter it is and who the baby is. Do you have this photo?

I'd really like to share info with you. I have some information on the Polleys, but only a little on the Jacobis. You can respond here or at beej47@fuse.net. I'm going to Chicago for a few days and hope to go to Freeport, where Frank Polley's father Silas and other relatives lived, to get some more information.

Thanks.

Barbara McDonald

JACOBI Deu>Chicago 1881

Looking for descendants of Rudolph & Sophie Wesche Jacobi who immigrated to the US from Germany abt 1881. Rudoph was born in Gotte, Germany and Sophie in Linten Hannover. There were three daughters that I'm aware of; Marie(b. Hamburg) m. Frank S. Polley 1890 Chicago, Carrie & Jennie. Rudolph "Fritz" Jacobi is listed as a grocer on W. North Avenue in the 1900 Chicago census.

I'm descended from Frank S. Polley and Marie Jacobi, but don't know anything about the descendants of Carrie & Jenny Jacobi. There may have been a brother also. The only information I have on this family is someone may have lived in Gages Lake, IL, one descendant may have owned a trotting horse farm called Melody Tower farm ? in Wadsworth, IL and there may have been some connection to a circus. Jennie is listed in the 1900 census as an actress.

Hope someone recognizes this family.

Barbara McDonald

Do you have any history of the Jacobi's from Coburg. I am a decendant of Georg Fredrich Jacobi born 14 may 1753 in Coburg. I think it is a possibility that Georg was the son of Johann Gottfried Jacobi and Sabina Elisabetha Schmidt.

Shelly, Mary Ann's real last name was spelt, "Jacoby".

South Dakota Births list her as being born Jan 8 1886. Mother was Matilda E. Kelly, and her father was Jacob (also known as jake) Jacoby.

1895 Census for Terriory South Dakota, Jackson Township, Charles Mix County list the following:

Jake Jacoby- head of household
Mrs. Jake Jacoby
Aurora
Mary A---your Mary Ann
Laura
Franses
William

1900 Census for Charles Mix County, SD, Goose Lake:

Jacob Jacoby-born Dec 1855 in Germany
Matiltda E. born 1865 in Iowa
Laura F. born 1888 SD
Francis G-1890 SD
Willie J.-1893 SD
Louis H.-1895-SD
Clarence O-1898 SD

Apparently Aurora and Mary Ann married somewhere between 1895-1900, which would give a time frame to search for marriages in South Dakota, which you can do by going to the states Vital Statistics, Heatlh Dept. I'm not sure if I can locate the marriage for Crowley and Mary Ann, search machine for SD only begins at 1905 and forward.

Rather a late reply, so I don't know if it's still relevant.
In Germany at this time it was usual to have a saint's (eg Johann). This was used for religious purposes, similar to the name which Roman Catholics now take for their first communion. This was followed by a legal name. This was used by friends and family.
It was possible for all members of a family to have the same saint's name and different legal names.
So it was possible to be Johann Johan Jacobi and have a brother Johann Sebastian Jacobi.
Note the different forms of Johann/Johan depending on whether it was the religious or legal form.
Incidentally, I am descended from Johann Samuel Jacobi, born in Coburg, Saxe-Coburg in 1804.
Ray Bishop
England

Hello Frank Weibelzahl

I live in Langley, British Columbia, Canada. This is a municipality about 40 Km from Vancouver in the lower Fraser Valley. This is on the west coast of Canada, a land of mountains, forests, farms, sea and sky. It is beautiful.

We are trying to see if we have any relatives in Germany. My father, Heinz Theodore Frank Weibelzahl immigrated to Canada with his father, Albert Weibelzahl and uncle by marriage, Max Jacobi some time before WWll. My grandfather was widowed from his marriage to Frieda Elizabeth Rahn in 1916 and became married to Hedwig Jacobi. Albert's siblings were Wener, Anna, Emma, Ida, Clara and Franz. His parents were Theodore Frank Weibelzahl and Wihlemena Boldman. The family lived in the area of Berlin before the war. Does this ring any 'bells' for you. Your name fits nicely into the family naming pattern. Perhaps you can shed some light on us. We are a very small family in Canada. I have one sister and four brothers. There are child decendents from each of these siblings and Weibelzahl-Jacobi has decendents through the Fulcher and Luchkwi families in Alberta and Ontario.

I will be very happy to chat further with you about our potential connection.

Regards,

Jim Weibelzahl

Hi there,

I have since learned that my gr grandfather came from a place called Neu Laub (aka Neu Tarlyk). He came over on a ship called the USS Canada. He planned to meet his brother in law in Wisconsin. He came over in Feb-March of 1912. His wife and three children arrived in September of the same year.

After living in Wisconsin for a short time they emigrated to Saskatchewan, Canada. Family has only ever mentioned a Wisconsin connection. But I'm sure some of their descendents must have moved elsewhere.

My grandfather's name was Jacob, but he was born in 1910. So I guess that doesn't fit with the Jacobs you found.

I guess I'm not much help to you. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Alsace-Lorraine is along the border between France and Germany. My Jacobi relatives (Joannes, Helena, Lucas, Anna Maria, Mathais & Petrus) are from Trier. I found bmd info in the records of St. Gertrude Catholic Church. This microfilm is at the LDS library. Mathais Jacobi and his family immigrated to America in 1857. Antwerp, Belgium to New Orleans, LA and settled in Kansas City, MO. The spelling was later changed to Jakobe. Good hunting.
