I would be interested in any reactions to the following:

Dickinson Jadwin, son of Bartholomew Jadwin and Grace Swift, was born about 1750 in Queen Anne's Co., MD. He was listed in the 1778 Maryland "Fidelity" Census for Caroline Co. MD (formed from QAC) together with Bartholomew Jadwin, who appears to be his brother.

He moved to Allegany County, in western MD, with his brother Bartholomew and is listed in the 1800 Federal Census for that county as having four young females in his household.

Census of 1810 for Allegany Co., Md lists Bartholomew and Thomas Jaddin.

From western Maryland Dickinson appears to have moved to Ohio as there is an entry for a Dickinson Jadden and wife Catherine in the Land Records, Newark Courthouse, Licking Co., Ohio, Aug 12, 1816. This related to the sale to Samuel Musselman of 84 acres for the amount of $718.40. Dickinson made his mark.

Other Jadwins were moving to this area at the time.

The Census of 1820 lists a Dickinson Jadden, Licking Co., Ohio, but the Census Taker noted "Correctness of spelling of name Jadden in doubt."

It seems very likely that the Census Taker in 1820 misspelled Jadwin as Jadden and the latter name was used by subsequent generations as we find:

Land Records, Vol J, p. 247, Newark Courthouse, Licking Co., Ohio, April 13, 1825. Grantees: Catherine Jadden, William Jadden, Rufus Jadden, 117 acres. Dickinson apparently deceased.

1830 US Census, Licking Co., Ohio lists a Catherine Jadden.

November 1835, Land Records Vol EE, page 654, Newark Courthouse, Licking Co, Ohio: Grantees William Jadden and Rufus Jadden.

US Census 1840, Licking Co., Ohio indicates Rufus Jadden living alone.

Much of above taken from Howard Jadwin's book "Jadwin," 1973, privately published.

In 1997, a post by Lynn Proud on RootsWeb cited the Jadden name:
"Elizabeth Banter died 02-May-1877 in Gas City, IN. She was the wife of Gilbert B. JADDEN. Gilbert was born 02-Feb-1838 in Newark, Licking Co., OH. They had a son named Gilbert B. JADDEN."

A rootsweb post: Gilbert B. Jadden of Upland, Indiana attended a reunion of the 89th Regiment Indiana Volunteers in Portland Indiana, on Oct. 10, 1889.

They had 2 children:
1) Wilbur JADDEN b. 11-Jun-1885
2) Eva JADDEN b. 15-Mar-1890

There is an unincorporated town named Jadden in Grant Co., IN.
