I am researching the Jaekel family of Chicago. Charles/Carl Jaekel (a tailor) and Ernestine/Ernestina Knop/Knopf were married in Pomerania in Prussia before immigrating to the U.S. aboard the Schiller in 1869 with six of their chidren. Once here, they had at least one more child. In every record save the marriage index for Hermine Jaekel, I have found their named spelled with a "J", and, except for the immigration ship's record, I believe it has been consistently "Jaekel".

Below is the family tree to the best of my knowledge today:

1. Charles/Carl Jaekel 1823-4/7/1888
__ + Ernestine/Ernestina Knop/Knopf 3/6/1823-12/24/1907
___ 2. Hermine 1848-
______ + Hermann Wollenhaupt
______ 3. Hermine ? - 1/20/1960
_________ + John Reeb ? - 10/22/1965
___ 2. Paulina 6/2/1854-1-19-1929
______ + Nicholas "Nikol" J. Hoelzel 1/1842 - 12/8/1923
______ 3. Herman E. c.1875-?
______ 3. Ella c.1876-1926
_________ + George W. Gieck
______ 3. Ernst K. W. 9/17/1877-3/14/1878
______ 3. Leo Karl 9/19/1880-5/28/1881
______ 3. Paul Karl 3/9/1882-4/20/1888
______ 3. Pauline E. c.1888-c1981
_________ + Nissen
______ 3. Edmund "Edwin" F. c.1887-1963
___ 2. Charles
___ 2. Ernestine ("Teeny") 5/22/1859-2/23/1933 (never married)
___ 2. Emil 12/8/1860-1/11/1898
___ 2. Augusta/Auguste 7/17/1865-12/7/1892
______ + Paul Ernse Peter Rupprecht 2/2/1865-1925
______ 3. Adelheit "Ada" 10/2/1888 - 2/1/1942
_________ + Arthur John Long 8/11/1868-12/24/1932
_________ 4. Donald Ray 3/1/1922-1/18/1964
__________ + Virginia Bonner 3/24/1921-1989
_________ 4. Roger LeRoy 9/29/1926-6/15/2001
__________ + Elizabeth Greenwood
___ 2. Anne Jaekel 9/1879

This is the record of the original Jaekel's immigration:
From Germans to America Vol. 23 (Jun 1869 - Dec 1869), pp 69-71 (family record on p. 70)

Ship: Schiller
From: Brehmen
To: Baltimore
Arrived: 17 June 1869

Jaecke, Karl 46 U TLR GR000 CH
Ernestine 46 U TLR GR000 CH
Hernmine 21 U TLR GR000 CH
Pauline 15 U TLR GR000 CH
Karl 11 U TLR GR000 CH
Ernestine 9 U CHILD GR000 CH
Emil 8 U CHILD GR000 CH
Auguste 3 U CHILD GR000 CH

I have all census records for Carl and Ernestine from their arrival through their deaths - excepting the 1870 census when they were still perhaps making their way to Illinois? I also have Carl's death record and Ernestine's obituary, as well as various other bits of information.

Virtually 100% of this information has been from research. I have no personal anecdotes, photographs, etc. My father, whose line this is, was only able to tell us the most basic information - his mother's name! If anyone has information to add or, especially, such items as photographs, we would be delighted!
