Looking for any information on this couple

I am looking for information on a Stanley Calbach Jaggers who married a lady by the name of Mary Ellen Crowe. Their first child was born in Germantown, PA in 1939. Mary Ellen was my birth mother and I been able to find a lot of information about her and even met her children. They did not know where they were married and finding records from NJ is impossible. I think they might of married in NJ of PA. Any information that anyone has would be helpful. I know the Jaggers lived in NJ.

The "Mannie" listed as the husband of Reve Mae, could be Harry Clyde "Hammie" Davis. He also is buried at Leola Cemetery. I believe he was the 2nd of 3 known children of Thomas Jefferson Davis and his 2nd wife, Dolly Loretta "Dottie" "Dorothy" Garner.

Hammie's older sister was Elizabeth R. Davis (b. 1895) and his younger sister was Keller Viola Davis (b 7-Dec-1899, d. 15 Oct 1949, Leola Cemetery)

Dolly Loretta "Dottie" "Dorothy" Garner (b. 31 Mar 1872, d. 3-Dec-1956, Leloa Cemetery) parents were David Garner and Rachel McDougald.

See the (1910 Leola Town, Tennessee Township, Grant County, Arkansas.

It's not my John but the chairmaker/undertaker John in Lambeth who I think is Richard's brother. I have quite a lot of details on him because back in 2006 when I posted the first message I thought undertaker John was mine. This was because he had a daughter called Sarah-Ann who was the same age my Sarah-Ann had put on census forms, my Sarah-Ann lived in Southwark which is near Lambeth and had a father called John who was described as carpenter on her marriage. I later discovered another John born in Holborn with a daughter called Sarah-Ann about 3 years older from the Wapping area, as my Sarah Ann married in Bethnal Green and the other in Lambeth it became apparent that I had been looking at the wrong John Jaggers. I am certain I have the right one now because the witness on my Sarah-Ann's marriage (to James Henry Smith) was a Mary Ann Toysbin which is a rare name and turns out to be her sister's married name. Undertaker John's daughter married John Lewis Stoneman.
Having said that, I still think both Johns and both Richards could be connected through a common ancestor in the 18th century. I feel sure Tony's Richard is connected in some way to my John because they both lived in Wapping and were both coal porters (amongst other occupations!).
I'll have a look for Mr Bridges in the newspapers and directories, I'll let you know if I find anything.
I live in Surrey.
Annette

Wow, I tried to find these locations on the internet without success, so your John and my Richard may well be brothers, There was an undertaker firm in Camberwell, I do know the name of the company but need to find the paperwork because I cannot remember the name off hand. But I guess they would be listed in the old directories. Did I say the Mr Bridges was a wine merchant and may also be in the directories. Richard was paid £12 a year as his servant. Could I ask where you are based are you in the London area?

I have attached a photo of my dad Albert Jaggers as a boy with his Dad Leaonard and Mother Elizabeth.
Sue

It looks very likely that the John Jaggers chairmaker and undertaker born c.1780 in Clerkenwell is a child of Richard Jaggers and Elizabeth Spice.
I have an 1873 map which shows the different parishes in the City of London. It has St John Zachary and within this there is a Carey Lane which leads off a Foster Lane. These roads still exist and are just to the North East of St Paul's Cathedral, this may help with finding baptisms (assuming they lived in the same area), I couldn't see a St John's church but the nearest ones were St Anne & St Agnes and St Vedast's.
I hope this helps.
Annette

The important info on the settlement is that the late Richard Jaggers worked for two years as a yearly servant to Mr bridges of Cary Lane in St John Lachary in Footer Lane in the city of London about 20 years ago (1770- 1772 ish) The children mentioned were, Elizabeth born 1771, Sarah born 1774, Richard born 1777, John born 1780, Mary born 1782, Ann born 1785 and James born 1788. The newspaper report was interesting as I also have Robert Jaggers born 1811 in Clerkenwell.

Happy hunting
Sue

You have renewed my interest in Jaggers so I'm going to collect everything I have on them and try to make sense of it all. I have a number of newspaper cuttings (one I've attached to Tony's message). There appears to be several Richard Jaggers, one was a manufacturer of yeast in Whitechapel in 1824. I couldn't see your attachment but would be interested to know the names of the children.
I'll let you know of any connections I may come up with.
Annette

This is quite exciting because I thought I had reached a dead end. I went to the record office in London and it took ages to find anything because the microfiche are not indexed as with rural archives. I live in Oxfordshire so find it quite difficult to visit for physical searches. But if I do come across anything that verifys our links I will let you know. I do have a transcript of a Voluntary Examination of Elizabeth Jaggers dated 1790 from whitechapel to Clerkenwell with seven children (one was a John) which I can't seem to attach or copy into here. If you can see it I think that the Richard mentioned is my Richards Father and that the mother was Elizabeth Spice but this is hard to prove.
Sue

Hello.
It seems very likely that there must be a connection between your Richard and the John Jaggers in Lambeth with the Clerkenwell and undertaker connections. I don’t know if you noticed (my post in this thread dated 12/11/2007) but I found out that my Sarah-Ann was not the daughter of the John Jaggers in Lambeth but the daughter of yet another John from St George in the East who was born c.1797 in Holborn, this I am now certain of. I think it is also very likely that there is a connection between Tony’s William and Richard (reply to my post of 12/11/2007) and my John who married an Ann (surname unknown). I have come across your Richard on census forms and long thought he was connected too (Holborn connection). Perhaps when ancestry put the London parishes online we may be able to unravel it all.
Hello, I am also a Jaggers researcher. My 3 x Gt Grandfather was Richard Jaggers bp. 13th July 1777 Parents Richard Jaggers & Elizabeth Spice. He was Bapt. in Saffron Hill and was a silversmith and an undertaker. On the 1841 census he was residing at St James Walk Clerkenwell with his son Robert. He died in 1852 at the ripe old age of 74 after falling down stairs and had been in the Clerkenwell workhouse. Could your John be my Richard Jnrs Brother or cousin, with the undertaker connection. From my search experiences I think I can safely say that Elizabeth was the most common female name of these times.

Hello Annette

Your latest message makes me wonder if there is a connection with my part of the Jaggers family. Your mention of Anchor and Hope Alley was the key. However, the only name in common is John Jaggers.
My great grand father was William Jaggers, born 11 October 1844 at 2 Anchor and Hope Alley. He married Mary Ann Peterson on 25 October 1875. He was a Cornmeter and became a Freeman of the City of London in 1867. After his marriage they lived at 24 Jamaica Street, Stepney and then at 81 Charles Street, Mile End.
His father was Richard Jaggers who married Abigail Sweeney, both born about 1808. Richard had various jobs: coal porter (1844), watchman (1867), Labourer (1875).
Richard and Abigail had at least 8 children but the second boy died at birth: Thomas (b. 1831), Margaret (1832), Richard (1835), Richard (1836), Henry (1838), Joseph (1842), William (1844) and Elizabeth (1847). Abigail died in 1847 so it looks as if she died in childbirth. This information from the 1851 census when they were living at Red Lion Street, Tower Hamlets.
Richard’s father was John Jaggers, a coal porter – so which John Jaggers or Jagger was this in relation to yours?

What is the piece number of your 1851 census search? I could not find it in Ancestry.co index.

Tony Jaggers

Stanley Calbach Jaggers

Stanley Calbach Jaggers was born in New Jersey 1903 and died in Baltimore, Md 1977. He married Mary Ellen Crowe. They had a daughter whose name is Kathleen Ellen (Jaggers) Decker. She is the person I would like to find information on. She would be my half sister since my birth mother was her mother. Any information that anyone has about this family would be greatly appreciated.

Re: John Jaggers and Elizabeth London

Hello,
It looks like we may have a connection after all.
I've since discovered that my initial Jaggers research was flawed and that my Sarah Ann Jaggers was born in St George in the East 31/12/1833 and had a father John who was a carpenter (on Sarah's marriage cert)and a mother Ann (from her baptism). I think Ann died in 1845, I have found Sarah Ann and her father John on the 1851 census (he is a coal porter on the census)they were living at Anchor and Hops Alley, St George in the East, there was a John Jagger (without the 'S') and family living in the same house, could be a son or nephew. I also think there was a brother of Sarah Ann, William James b.16/2/1831. They were both baptised at St George in the East and living at Hilliard's Court (John is a gun maker on William's and a labourer on Sarah Ann's, he probably just got work where he could find it). I think John was born about 1797 according to the 1851 census and his age at death. There is a John baptised at St Martin in the Fields 19/10/1797 to parents Thomas and Elizabeth, I haven't got much further than that.
When were Mary Ann and Ann Elizabeth born?
Annette
Hello Tony
It's possible that my John (c.1797) could be Richard's brother, I don't know who John's parents were, Thomas and Elizabeth are the only ones on the IGI that fit but that doesn't mean that they definitely were his parents. I'd like to know more about Richard's father John, do you know when he was born or married?.
John and Sarah Ann were transcribed as Saggers on ancestry for the 1851 census. Looks like Jaggers to me!

If Kellie reads this - I have found a link to Mary Ann, a witness on Sarah's marriage was Mary Ann Toysbin and my detective work shows that a Mary Ann Jaggers married in Rothehithe in 1845 and a Robert Samuel Toysbin is registered on the same vol/page.

Thank you Tony for the information on Richard, it certainly looks like he led a similar life to John having various Jobs including Coal Porter and also living in Anchor and Hope Alley.
Regards
Annette

From Ky and Arizona; I have worked on Jaggers starting in New England, NY, SC, Barbados & Ky for years. Am wishing for some info on Daniel Jaggers whose will in Brunswick County, Virginia 1812. I have checked Lunenburg Co, also where there are land records, in 1742. Names wife, Mary. I have not been able to find copy of will but just a reference to it. These counties in Va are near the N.Car line and many of my Jaggers in S.C were in Chester Co and migrated to Ky, Ala, Ill, etc.
Can anyone furnish a clue to this man and where he originated?
Inky,
I have found information regarding the Jaggers family history. I'm sure over the past 4 years you have gathered what I have now found. Our desendants go way back to Sarah Atterberry Born about 1790 in Chester Co, South Carolina. She died about 1860 in Kentuky. Is this the earliest date you have of connecting the jaggers to the Atterberry name.
Also any information a pictures you might have found I would love to see.
Also Iam trying to trace the Grant family but I have no information other than my dad. Would you happen to know his dads name and his siblings?
