Thank you for the information. So Johann Gottfried (1787?)and Sophia Elisabeth Doebler (31 Aug 1792?) had these children as I understand it: Maria Fredericke (18 Sep 1812), Carl Friedrich Wilhelm (5 Jun 1824), Maria Christina
(3 Feb 1829) and Johann Gottfried (11 Sep 1831), + (Maria?)Caroline 1821. Do you know if there are other children? Do you have a Carl Friedrich Ludwig, born about 1817? He was on the same boat as John and Wilhelm in 1852. Also, if you have any information on Sophia Elisabeth Doebler e.g. parents or other relatives, I would love to obtain it.

Marg Crewe

Hi Trish; I was interested of the fact that you and your brother grew up in W.N.Y. I have a loose connection to a Pearl Jagow. Her father's name was Philip and her mother's name was Elizabeth Lilly, Caldwell, Jagow. Her mother died 1/23/46, leaving her husband, Philip and daughter Pearl. I havn't been able to continue my research. At one time she her mother, Elizabeth lived at 124 Cherry Street but I believe that was 10 years earlier (1936). My connection is through Elizabeth who was my mothers step sister. There doesn't seem to be many Jagow's in this area so you never know!

Jagow with Prussian, Michigan Roots

From researching my own Prussian immigrants, I know how very difficult it is, and I came across this information in the course of my "travels" that might serendipitously provide just the right clue to a JAGOW researcher.

Lillie Anna JAGOW was born 18 Dec 1888 in Hadley, Lapeer Co., MI, and died 19 July 1980 in Lapeer Co. She married Arthur Carl WILLIAM (Williams) born 16 Dec 1884 in Hadley on 26 Jan 1910. He died 09 Feb 1957. They had three sons:
Raymond (1911), Wilfred (1913-1934), and Arthur Daniel (1915). Lillie and Arthur moved at least thirty times in their first 30 years of marriage, mostly in Lapeer Co., but some time was spent in Oakland Co. MI.

Lillie Anna was the daughter of William JAGOW born 1862 in Hadley, MI, and Wilhelmina DIEDRICH born 1869 who was an 1883 emigrant of Hinter Pommern, Prussia. (A photo of Lillie Anna JAGOW in her sewing class in Detroit, MI in 1907 can be found in the Nov-Dec 1996 issue, pg. 34 of "Everton's Genealogical Helper" magazine). She used her sewing skills to earn a living well into her 80s.

William and Wilhelmina JAGOW had five children: Henry (1887-1972), Lillie (1888-1980), Ida (1891-1892), Eva (1900, still living 1996), Ralph (1901-1973).

William was the only child of Samuel JAGOW, an 1854 emigrant of Polzow, Prussia, and Caroline SEELBINDER, an 1854 emigrant of Krugsdorf, Prussia.

Arthur Carl was the son of an 1854 emigrant from Bagemuhl, Prussia, Daniel WILLIAM and Augusta nee BROECKER HILLMAN, born in Locknitz, Prussia and widowed in Prussia about 1882. She brought her five HILLMAN children to her father's house in Hadley, MI.

Wilhelmina was the eldest of eight daughters (the first seven born in Prussia) of August DIEDRICH and Friedericke KENNITZ. The family emigrated from Hinter Pommern, Prussia about 1882.

The photo was submitted by a Lepeer, MI researcher (Lillie's granddaughter); please reference that issue for more details.

I tried locating the place I saw the information on a reunion in Jagow, Pyritz. I think it was on a German or German/Poland site. I also copied a e- on the village of Jagow that may be helpful:
Subject: Jagow, Brandenburg - Churches
Date: 1999/06/20
Author: Mike Summerer
Posting History

It appears that Jagow has incorporated the villages of Kutzerow, Uhlenhof, Dollgen and Taschenberg. The map I have shows three churches.

Does anyone know the names of thes churches and what denomination they were in 1880.

Mike Summerer

I will save your e- in the event I run across the information.
Thanks,
Lee

Re: Jagow Family/Niagara Co. New York

Herb, I know it has been a couple of years since your posting, but working on our Yagow (Jagow) family tree has led us to the Niagara County of New York and I wanted to see if you had found any more information about your ancestors in that area.

It is always dangerous to assume, but there may be a relationship between your family and ours, which goes back to a Samuel Friedrich Jagow who came over from Germany in 1846 and settled in Bergholz and Walmore, New York. In Eugene Camann's second book about Prussian transplants in that area of New York, he lists two other Jagow men around Samuel's age who came over at the same time, I presume brothers or maybe cousins. Maybe you descended from one of them. The were Michael Christian Jagow II and Christian Friedrich Jagow, both born in Prussia around 1805-1815.

Just wanted to see if you think there could be a connection.

Searching for ancestors of Samuel Friedrich Jagow, b.1804, Prussia, and relationship to Christian Friedrich Jagow and Michael Christian Jagow

The surname was changed to Yagow after the family came to the US. Samuel Friedrich and his wife Louise Augusta Suckow came to the US in 1846. Children were Samuel, Wilhelm, August, Ferdinand, Frederike, Heinrich and Herman, with all but the last two born in Germany before coming to the US. The family settled in the Bergholz, New York area and was affiliated with the Holy Ghost Lutheran Church there, and many of the children moved to southern Illinois later on. Other Jagows that lived in that area and came to the US on the same ship or within a year of Samuel Friedrich were Michael Christian II (b. abt. 1807, m. Marie Dorothea Rieck) and Christian Friedrich (b. abt. 1817, m. Albertine Wilhelmine Gensow). I am curious about whether they were brothers of Samuel Friedrich, or cousins, or how they were related. I am trying to figure out their parent's names and any other ancestors/descendants to fill out the family tree of Samuel Friedrich Yagow(Jagow) that I have already posted on the AFT.
