Hi Igal,

The sur-names are certainly very similar; I have records from Birzai giving me this spelling for my Jakovensky family.

I am not aware of any Jakovensky relatives for Elena in Birzai but that is always a possiblity.

I had contacted the Museum Sela in Birzai who had access to some city records. Perhaps they can refer you or assist you in some way. I made donations to their museum because they were so helpful to me.

Thank you for replying to me. One of my family members - Shmariyahu Tabakin - was married to Bertha Jakevenaite (Yakeven). This is info for the time before WWII and I found it in the list of externals passports that were issued in Lithuania. They lived in Birzai, Lithuania. So, all that gave me an idea that maybe you have some more info regarding Bertha Jakevenaite, because the family names sound similar.

Does that name tell you anything ?

Elena JAKOVENSKIATE / Yakovenskaya b. 25 May 1895, Izium City, Charkov Province, Russia Ukrainian Nationality, Lithuanian Citizen, Orthodox Religion. Her father was Baltrus Yakovenskyij / Jakovensky.

Elena's spouse was Krisius VAGNERIS/WAGNER; Panevezys, Lithuania b. 4Oct 1893; mayor of Birzai Lithuania 1931-1935;

Daughter : Nina VAGNERYTE; Birzai, LTU; b. approx 1929 married Russian Recruiting Officer Povilas OLEINIKOVAS in Birzai LTU 1 July 1946. Povilas OLEINIKOVAS, Russian military officer worked in Birzai Recruiting office,. His father was Mitrofanos Oleinikovas born in Russia.

Relative: DAGYS or Wagner in Odessa, Ukraine who manufactured billiard tables c 1920. Krisius E Vagneris lived with uncle in Odessa while attending school.

I have been told that there was a recent movie on Ukrainian TV showing an advertisement column displaying an add that read "Dagys - Billiards - Dagys.
