Searching in familysearch.org I saw taht William Jameson could have been son of Thomas Jameson and Catherin Paton, parents of Robert Jameson too, grand parents of Robert William Jameson and great- grand parents of Leander... But I am not sure because some dates are not good enough.

Re: David JAMESON

My 4 great grandfather, Col. David Jameson,M.D. emigrated from Edinburgh, Scotland to York, PA, via Charleston, S.C. He arrived in York about 1740. It's said that he had a son, Robert? Jameson, born about 1742 out of wedlock perhaps, that moved to Virginia probably in his twenties around 1765 to 1770. As was the custom, it is likely that he named a child after his father David. He also had a brother James. Pure speculation, but see our website at www.jamesonfamily.org .

My great great great great grandfather, David Jameson graduated from the University of Edinburgh medical school in about 1740 when he emigrated to York, PA and set up a medical practice. It's said in his memoirs that he was related to Professor Robert Jameson of Edinburgh medical school and Leander Starr Jameson. See our family website at www.jamesonfamily.org for more info.

Thank you for your post (which I just saw) of the obituary of my great-grandfather W S JAMESON. The text should be corrected from "Harold [Fred Hunter]," to read instead "Harold Todhunter." Since I knew his widow (1848-1949), his two daughters, and his son Edgar, I am happy to try to answer anyone's queries about W. S. Jameson.

Richard Falknor
richardfalknor@roadstarinternet.net

Re: Greene B. Jameson

You have a couple of the Jameson families mixed together here it looks like. Green B. Jameson's parents were William and Jane Jameson of Barren Co., KY. William and Jane's children:
1.] Willis Lea b. 1793 (m.1. Peggy Barlow m.2. ? m.3. Malinda _______) (some say he may have been married 4 times, by 1834 he had his 3rd wife (as written in a letter by his brother, Christopher Hawkins "C.H." Jameson) Willis died in Henry Co., TN in 1853.

2.] Mary Sarah b.c. 1796(m. Pouncy Nuckles lived in Tuscaloosa, AL for a time, then to TX)

3.] Gillian S. "Kitty" b. 1797(AKA Gilly Ann) (m. her cousin, William M. Jameson, son of Robert & Isabelle (Mahan) Jameson), lived in Lincoln Co., MO.

4.] Emily b.c. 1800 d.c. 1831

5.] Juliann (AKA Julian/Julia Ann) b.c. 1804 (m. John W. Miller) moved to Louisville, KY; no issue

6.] Green B. (AKA Green Berry) b. abt. Oct. 1805 never married; no issue; died at the Alamo

7.] Desting (AKA Destings) b.c. 1808; never married; no issue

8.] Christopher Hawkins "C.H." b.c. 1810; never married; no issue

9.] Eloise/Louise T. b.c. 1813 (m. Samuel D. Howell); lived in St. Charles Co./Lincoln Co., MO

I'm not sure who Isaac Jameson is in your post, or the Brophys, nor Thomas G. Mashersure. Not positive on the Thomas Jameson of TX, or the James Jameson m. Elizabeth Perry. Doesn't sound familiar off the top of my head, but the Thomas Jameson whose son m. Lucy Hackley, etc. alot of them were in Mt. Sterling, Montgomery Co., KY and also near Louisville, Lincoln Co., MO. They are distant cousins to my Jameson line in Lincoln Co., MO, I believe. Zachariah Gouch Jameson comes out of that line near Louisville, Lincoln Co., MO if my mind recalls correctly. I think he is the son of William & Mahala (Bruce) Jameson that came out of Montgomery Co., KY to Lincoln Co., MO.

Your "Mary Nichols" of Alabama may be Mary Nuckols b. 1858-59 in Tuscaloosa, married W.R. Whetstone on 12/31/1874 in Tuscaloosa. She was the daughter of Virgil Poet "Doc" Nuckols and grandaughter of Pouncy Nuckols and Mary Sarah Jameson, who was Green B. Jameson's sister. If you have documentation on Mary Sarah and Green B.'s parents William and Jane, I'd love to have it. Thanks.

Jamesons in Texas related to Betty the golfer?

I frequently read posts about Jameson families in Texas. I know only that my grandmother had a 2nd cousin (or so I was told) named Betty who helped found the Women's Golf Association (she died recently in FL, I believe).
I was told also that some of the Jameson brothers moved to Texas when others moved to MO(after which my Jamesons came to CA in mid-1800's.
Just wondering if any of these Texas Jamesons have a direct connection to Barren Co. KY (then to Tennesee, then to MO, then some to KS and others to CA)

I m looking for the ancestors of my great-great-great grand father, William Jameson. He was doctor surgery (Edinburgh Collegge), and proffessor of Botanic and Chemistry. He lived in Ecuador since 1825, by way Jamaica. Maybe he was retative of Robert jameson, Robert william jameson and Leander Starr Jameson, because they was related of a guy named Thomas Jameson, and my ancestor named Tomás to one of his sons.

I am seeking more information about Robert Jameson who was born about 1830 in Ireland. He shows up in Simcoe County about 1851. His parents were James and Martha Jameson. I am also looking for information about them. His sister Rachel married Richard Pearson, who hailed from Ireland by way of Asphodel.
Family lore says that Richard Pearson and this Robert Jameson were close friends and struck out for Simoce to find their way. The Jameson family followed the two young men when they were established.

I descend from William thru son John, and his daughter Sarah who married John Peery. I have just recently discovered this while just starting to work on my Peery line. I have no notes whatsoever on the Jamesons. I would appreciate anything I can get. I have been doing genealogy for 44 years resulting in many lines way back in history. I will share any info with anyone who shares with me. Thanks
Roger

Jim, If you go into the internet and search for "Jerome Township.-267"...There is a reference to Joshua Ewing that Married a Margaret Scott. Joshua died in 1821, so I am assuming that she remarried a Jameson. It also mentions that Joshua's younger brother, James Ewing, married Elizabeth Cary. The page will start the Ewing info right about at 262 - History of Union County as is splatter throught till 268. Only one puzzle for me...It states that the sons Joshua and James father was Mascol Ewing and the mother is Cynthia. We all have the mother as Hannah Harris. Please Advise. Diana

Yes we do come from the John W Jameson of William and Mahala Bruce Jameson. My husbands gr-grandfather was William Bruce Jameson son of John/jno/James E Jameson b 1849 of lincoln county, mo. to John W and Levicy Stephens.
We can not however get a direct line or find records to connect it. We also do not have any info of him after the Texas 1880 census which the only thing we can confirm is that he was not aloud to come back and visit after he visited William Bruce and his children. William Bruce married Debbie Irene Johnson. Thier son Edwin Paul Jameson married Laverne Hottel, their son Curtis Paul Jameson married Pam Lomax and they had my husband Anthony David Jameson. The Jameson's in America did not go into any furhter detail of William's (husband of mahala's) parents children. But we do know that Mahala's grandmother I believe had the maiden name Jameson also. Maybe a Rebecca Jameson and her father was Thomas Jameson. Then Dotty then Bruce? That was in the Bruce or Dotty Family book in print. But nothing further than Mahala. But any records or person you think might be able to help woud be great! Thank you so much for answering my message! Melinda Perez Jameson

Hi Patty this is an old post but I was interested in the info you had on the John Jameson from Lincoln Mo. We come from his son John/Jno/James Jameson which married Honora Melton and thier son William Bruce Jameson. We can not find any info or family stories to confirm his life after the 1880 census in Texas. We have found a census of Honora until 1930 I beleive. But can not confirm barriel plots. We know thier son William is burried in Sapulpa Ok and Thier son Chester is burried in Murry Ok. Thier is a John E Jameson listed in smae cemetery as Chester but it was originally under a Jno Jameson. Thier is a Mrs H. Jameson in same cemetery as William Jameson but no info on who handled the funeral arrangements for them. Do you know any info that might help. They also had two daughters in the LDS family research. Florence and Lola which I beleive Lola died at a young age. There was also a census that states honora was divorced which and then some after that which she s lsted as a Jameson still and married? Can you enlighten me or know of anyone from this direct line that can. The only two aunts left of my husband daughters of William Bruce Jameson did not know thier Grandfather John/Jno/James because he did not come around. It is said that he did one time and William told him to never come back for some reason? Thank you for your help Melinda Jameson

Re: Greene B. Jameson

Jim,
Green B. Jameson was the son of William & Jane Jameson of Barren Co., KY. Green's siblings filed claim as his heirs. Green was never married and never had issue. William & Jane Jameson's children were:
1.) Willis Lea Jameson b.c. 1793 d. 1853 TN m. 3 times 1. Peggy Barlow
2.) Mary Sarah Jameson b.c. 1796 d. 1875 TX m. Pouncy Nuckols
3.) Gillian S. "Kitty" Jameson b. 23 Feb. 1797 d. 1856 MO m. William M. Jameson (cousins, Wm. bro. to my GGG Grandpa George)
4.) Emily b.c. 1800 d.c. 1831
5.) Juliann Jameson b.c. 1804 m. John W. Miller
6.) Green Berry Jameson b. 1807 d. 6 Mar. 1836 Alamo
7.) Destings Jameson (male) b.c. 1808?
8.) Christopher Hawkins Jameson b.c. 1810
9.) Eloise "Louisa" T. Jameson b. 1812/1813 m. Samuel D. Howell.

William Jameson (m. Jane) was the son of John J. Jameson of Barren/Fayette Cos., KY. John died c. 1801 in Fayette Co., KY. John was married either 2 or 3 times. William is believed to be his oldest child with a first wife, name unknown. John married lastly to Rebecca Buchannan 22 Jul 1797 in Fayette Co., KY. John J. Jameson's children:
1.) William "Will" Jameson b.c. 1770 m. Jane _________
2.) Robert Jameson b.c. 1785 m. Elizabeth "Betsy" Haley
3.) Sarah "Sally" Jameson b.c. 1790 m. Lowry T. Hampton
4.) John Jameson b.c. 1794 m. Susannah Hawk
5.) Mary "Polly" Jameson b. c. 1796 m. Samuel Bailey
6.) Allen Jameson b. 8 Jun 1797 m. Rhoda Kennedy
7.) Harvey Jameson b.c. 1799 d. bef 1820

I believe that John J. Jameson was the son of Robert Jameson of Louisa Co., VA, and is in some way cousin to my 4th Great Grandfather Robert Jameson whose parents were William & Sarah (Collins?) Jameson of Rockbridge/Augusta Co., VA. We were told that Gillian and William mentioned early here were cousins. Plus I have a copy of an affidavit written by John J. Jameson of Davidson Co., TN (grandson of Willis Lea Jameson), that states the names of his aunts and uncles (including Green B. Jameson) and he states that Gillian married William Jameson, a cousin. So trying to figure out the exact connection between my Rockbridge/Augusta line and Robert Jameson of Louisa Co., VA. My theory is that Robert Jameson of Louisa Co., VA (b.c. 1740) is the son of John Jameson (oldest son of William & Sarah (Collins?) Jameson. If so, he would be the first cousin of my 4th Great Grandfather Robert Jameson. Not sure though, but there is a connection somewhere.
Patty
Melinda,
I will check through my notes, etc. and let you know what I have. William Jameson (Mahala Bruce) comes out of the Montgomery Co., KY line of Jamesons and they are cousins to my line, but tie in back in Virginia. William's line comes from the Capt. Thomas Jameson line I believe. I'll have to look at it before I answer you definitively, but I can tell you that Bruce King is researching this line. I can't remember if he's interested in both Jameson and Bruce, but I think so. Definitely the Bruce line. We swapped a few emails in the past. William's line ties in with the Jameson boys that married Judith Ball Hackley and I think her sister. Will get back to you with more later.

Melinda,
The John Jameson coming to mind that I think you descend from is the John Jameson that was a son of William & Mahala (Bruce) Jameson. Is that right? I haven't looked at that line for a while if it is and maybe why none of your names are really sounding familiar to me right now. The were several John Jamesons in Lincoln Co., MO. There was the one I mentioned. There was also John Jameson m. Susan Hawk who was the son of John Jameson d. 1801 Fayette Co., KY from Barren Co., KY. This John moved to Montgomery Co., MO and then I know his son Allen (m. Catherine Savage) ended up in Texas. Also John J. Jameson (m. Catherine Cassidy), who was the son of George W. & Mary Ida (Clay) Jameson's son. This John J. Jameson is the youngest brother of my GG Grandpa Clay Jamerson. I know there was a John M. Jameson that ties into this line, plus John Morgan Jameson b. 1883 that is my Great Uncle (son of Willis & Flora (Pierce) Jamerson). Let me know if you are of the John Jameson (m. Mary Fentom?) line from up around Louisville. This John Jameson is the first I mentioned, son of William & Mahala (Bruce) Jameson. If you are of that line then Bruce King would be related, as he is of that line.

Andrew Jameson born abt 1771 Scotland, married Rachael Wark

I am trying to find further information of Samuel Jameson's mother, Rachael Wark, born abt.1801, she married Andrew Jameson who was born abt. 1771 in Scotland.
I recently came upon the following article of interest:
Minnedosa Tribune
September 14, 1905
Page 4

Senator Wark, of Fredericton N.B. who died the other day, was a cousin of the late Samuel Jameson, Harvey Street, Peterboro, Ontario, whose mother was a Wark. Longevity seems to run in the Wark blood. Mrs. Argue, now of Souris Manitoba, still living at the age of 103 years, is a sister of Mr. Jameson, and another sister, Mrs. Matthew Mellwain, of Peterboro died a few years ago at the age of 95 years, and Mr. Jameson himself was 83 years of age at the time of his death.
Does anyone have further information of this family.
Thank you
Cheryl Wark
British Columbia,
Canada
