I don't think that Catherine Janas in the 1930 Census (for Amber Township in Mason County, Michigan) is the same person. Catherine was the 2nd wife of John Janas. I believe Catherine's maiden name was Chmura. John's original wife Agatha Wenc ("Aggie" in the 1920 Census) died in Chicago in 1922.

Bryon

You should be able to find a location in the church baptismal records of the children. If your ancestors married in US than do search for a church marriage record and state marriage application.

Although this is an old post I will give it a try. My father is Richard Janas (he has posted a few times) his father is Chester. Chester's father was Joseph and his mother was Rose.

That's as far as I have gone back. Any information on Joseph would be great. Place of birth (Poland)? , his siblings, his parents.

Thanks,
Bryon Janas

So one night he and I sat down and went through my grandmother's papers and one of the names on my grandfather's papers was Tekla Janas (maiden name Gasiorowicz or Gasienwiecz) notice how names change during translation. She was married to a Andrzej Stanislaw Janas. They had a son named Stanislaw. They came from Zarnowc or Jedlicze Poland.

Mr. James Lee Bracelin, that name is Sigmund Janas. not Jasas.
Re the msg. you received relative to the 1930 census in San Francisco CA, that is indeed my family. I am the George Radcliff Janas, listed, as aged 6. My mother is indeed Grace Matteson Janas born February 28 1899. My father, Sigmund Joseph Janas Sr., born November 23 1899. My brother was Sigmund Joseph Janas, Jr. I must withhold the birth date for security reasons. The name Sigmond is in error. It was my father who died in 1977 and my brother who died in 1993. My father was born in Lower Lake CA; my mother in Orange County CA; my brother and I in Sacramento CA. We resided at 3550 Divisadaro St at the time of the 1930 census. my father never talked to me about his family although I was informed he had a brother, William and a sister.I know nothing of my paternal grandfather.

James, I have found a Sigmond Janas listed on the 1930 California census, San Francisco, San Francisco (Districts 251-409), district 308 [image 50 at ancestry.com]

Sigmond Janas, head, age 30, married age 23, CA GER CA
Grace Janas, wife-h, age 32, married age ?, CA CA CA
George Janas, son, age 6, CA CA CA
Sigmond Janas, son, age 6, CA CA CA
Emma Janas, cook, age 35, single, UT SWITZ SWITZ

I found Sigmond Joseph Janas listed in California deaths. He was born 19 Apr 1923 in CA and died 10 May 1993 in Mendocino, CA. He is probably one of the twin sons listed for Sigmond in 1930.

Also in California Death's: Maryagnes Janas Markwith, born 7 Aug 1890 in CA, died 25 Jun 1958 in Inyo, CA. Mother's maiden name, Ellett, father's surname Janas.

I am wondering if John Benjamin and Mary Ann (Bracelin) Ellett's daughter, Clara Ellett, may have married a Janas and that Maryagnes was her daughter. Clara could also be the mother of the Sigmond Janas listed above (born about 1900). I have requested an obituary lookup from a volunteer at RAGOK for Maryagnes, maybe her parents will be listed.
