Just found your post which has given me new insight into looking for my gg grandfather. I have been using a copy of the James/Peek book and have a listing of Lifus' siblings.
Nothing else is listed All the information was submitted by Ernest England and the last entry was for Lesley Janes b.1876 who married Jane??: one son Guy Janes b.1919. Also has listing for an Absalom b.1795 in VA. Sampson b.1840 and Richard Donald Janes. Don't know if you're interested in this information but if so you may email me at JBloom1021@aol.

I started thinking...I need to make a clarification about this line, if you start looking futher back than Andrew & Marion. Their grandfather being David Janes of VA is based upon the research of others (see sources listed on the site). David being the son of William Janes of Richmond, VA is also based upon the same.

Currently, two separate lines of David & Elizabeth Janes of Adair Co., KY have had their dna tested. Neither line matches, so more definitely needs to be done there. However...neither of these lines match the Janes/Jaynes family of New Haven, CT (those in Rev. Frederic Janes book). Now, in Rev. Janes book, he stated that he wasn't sure William Janes of Richmond, VA was a desendant...so there is definitely more that needs to be done on that line.

I think the 1870 census may be confusing researchers fo this family.

For sure (per his death certificate) Lifus C. Janes was the son of Andrew "Andy" Janes.

Andrew's brother - Francis Marion Janes is the one who married Millie Ermine Stotts, but I don't believe Marion was married to a Matilda...Andrew was.

In 1870, for some reason Andrew is listed as the head of Marion's household and Marion is listed as the head of Andrew's household.

http://www.gean-ealogy.com/genealogy/getperson.php?personID=...

Here is what I have.

William Marion Janes was married twice: (1) to Matilda Unknown and (2) Millie Ermine Stotts.

Laura Bell Janes is the daughter of William Marion Janes and Millie Ermine Stotts.
There is another daughter Maranda Izora Janes married to Curtis Clay Janes.

Curtis Clay and Maranda are my great grandparents.

Lifus is the son of William Marion Janes and Matilda Unknown.

Lifus married Martha W. Page. Martha W. Page's parents are Willis Page and Penina Reed. (it is true that her name is spell differently on every census).

Martha W. Page is sister to Gwinn Best Page my great grandfather.

A son of Martha and Gwinn, Emory Willie Page married Elvada Janes. Elvada is a daughter of Curtis Clay and Maranida Izora Janes.

I hope I have this correct. I am planning a trip to Adair County next spring.
Hope to find some information. Has anyone checked out the book "The Janes Family a Genealogy and Brief History of the Descendants of William Janes the Emigrant Ancestor of 1637..." by: Rev. Frederic Janes in 1868?

This book goes down to a Marion Janes married to Matilda Unknown. It states that nothing further is known about this family.

I believe that this is the William Marion Janes and Matilda Unknown that I have. Just have not been able to prove it.

If this is proven to be wrong please let me know how and where the information comes from. Thanks

There are also many times where he says he supposes or thinks.

Thank you. I'm sorry it took so long to get back to you.

I did find a Josie Janes married to a Robert Helm. And, a Robert Janes in Fulton, who had slaves, but still can't connect them to my Grandmother.

By the way, I messed up about my Grandfather Mullin's middle name. It was Lucious or Luchious, or that is what my mom told my sister. He was also known as "Washie Luch". And Eva was known as "Evie", I found these names on their gravestone in the Little Obion Cemetery, Wingo, KY in 2003.

So, I'm still searching! I'm looking into the cemeteries in Randolph (or Lawrence Co., Arkansas) because I think the Janes' I'm related to, "probably" came from this line.

Excuse me? What I have is a book- a publication- which I purchased as a genealogical act of kindness to offer to somebody researching their genealogy. If I was in, "that much need of the money" as you put it, I would not have purchased it to begin with. That being said, I would like to be reimbursed for it. It cost me $20.00 at an estate sale. What is messed up with that? It is no wonder this country is in the shape its in when somebody can call this, "messed up"! (and a Marine no less who understands what it is to serve!)
Sorry Jared, you touched a nerve!

I am not trying to debate the cost, but I asked what you were thinking because if you are looking for more than $30 - $40 I would pass (assuming it is Rev Frederic Janes book...his book is available for free online, and while it would be great to have a copy for prosperity, I don't really want to spend a lot of money on something I already have on digital).

Sorry for starting a debate.

I have information on David Janes son Lewis and his descendants but nothing on Jonathan backwards, except what has been published by others.

you can find it on gean-ealogy.com under the family tree area.

JANES, Daniel, Richard and Robert of Lewisham & Kent

I am looking primarily for Daniel, who married Mary Ann Baker in 1811 and moved to Lewisham shortly thereafter.

Richard, born 1793 in Kidbrooke, Kent is I suspect his brother as he also moved to Lewisham c1813, as did Robert.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Re: Janes, Slapton, Bucks, England

Hi

I was born in Slapton and my mother continues to live there. She is 83 and has lived there since she was 2. I am not aware of any Janes living in Slapton but went to high school with Peter and Martin Janes who now continue to run their family business in Edlesborough. Their father ran the business prior to this. They sell shoes and electrical goods to the surrounding villages, including Slapton.

Edlesborough is about 5 miles from Slapton.

This may be of no help to you but I thought I would contact you.

Regards

Ann
