Janeway/ Prewitt, Southampton, England

My Grandmother Nellie Florence Louise Anne Janeway was born I think in Southampton in around 1902 and died in 1941 in Plymouth as a result I believe of injuries sustained in bombings in Southampton. She was married to Alfred Fredrick Prewitt, my Grandfather, also a Southampton man who died in 1942 in Plymouth when his ship hit a sea mine. my grandmothers sister Lilian Kate Janeway brought up my Father Alfred. I have been estranged from my Father since the 1980's but would like to learn more about my Prewitt and Janeway ancestors.

Hi Ngawati,It has been agood 2 years or so since I looked at the tree.I'll have to refresh my memory.I'm so glad you found the posting.I suspect the family originated from France or Italy,as they were probably the last of Huguenot
weavers.Jannaway/Jenaway is a very unusual name.

Sadly,my husband's great grandmother was born in the workhouse.Her name was Sarah Jane Jenaway.Her mother Tabitha remarried a james Larkin who was
a blacksmith.

Sarah jane married John French and lived at Bournemouth.Sarah Jane and John French came to Australia with 4 young children.John French died with a short time of their arrival in Melbourne,circa 1883.Sarah Jane was a tailoress and brought a baptism gown from England.It is still in our family to this day.To make ends meet,Sarah Jane French took in boarders.One of her daughters was also a tailoress.

I shall get back to you in a few days.

Regards from Barbara Walsh ,Victoria Australia

I do appreciate the information you had on the board re Tabitha Jannaway. My ancestor is Ann Clark who married Mathias Jannaway, apparently a brother to your Tabitha. And we only had James Jannaway, father, and simply Mary as mother. I dont have much more than you.

Ngawati Clarke. Canada

My husband's 2 times great grandmother was Tabitha jannaway(Jenaway) of Salisbury Wiltshire in England.Both Tabitha and her sister Martha West were listed as silk weavers on the 1841 census .Brothers Matthias and William were
bakers (journeymen).Their parents were most likely James Jenaway and Mary Holloway who married at St Martins about 1808.

Is there anyone who might give me a clue about the origins of any Jenaway family in Salisbury or surrounds?Are there any records of French Jenaways fleeing to England during religious persecutions?Where would I start?

Thank you.
If this is your family line, I have information on the Janeway side. Unfortunately, I do not have any info on the Phoenix side. John Janeway (1536) & Ellyn ?; Wm Janeway 1575 & Joan Arter; Wm Janeway(1607) & Mary ?; Wm Janway (1631) & Elizabeth Gardiner; Wm Janeway (1659) & Agnetta Dekey; Jacob Janeway (1707) & Sarah Hoagland; George Janeway (1742)& Effie Ten Eyck; Wm W. Janeway (1772) & Sarah Van Zandt; George Janeway (1802) two spouses (I don't know the order): Margaret Phoenix (I don't have children listed) & Anne Amelia Stelle (son George Janeway III). There are numerous ancestors and descendants to this George. If you would like the info or would like to discuss this more, please email me privately: ilejo@aol.com

Yes, I have a lot of info on this family, especially going back.
It appears that George Janeway (1802-1876) m. 1) Margaret Phoenix c. 1826, no issue, m. 2) Ann Amelia Stelle and had three children
1. George, b. ?, d. 1898, m. Virginia (-), had a son Edmund Janeway, b. 1871
2. Virginia.
3. Amelia.

George's line is as follows:
William Janeway-1 of NYC , the immigrant (1659-1708)/Agnes De Kay;
Jacob Janeway-2 (1707-1746)/Sarah Hoagland;
Capt. Janeway-4 (1772-1814)/Sarah Van Zandt;
George Janeway-5 (1802-1876).

This line also ties back to 5 generations of Janeways in England.
Let me know if you'd like more info and I can email it to you.
Robert Amos

Janeway, Robertson, Daniel families of Cleveland Co, Ok

Robertson-
Ira Robertson married to Martha Copeland buried in the Old Robinson Cemetery. They also have a son James H Robertson buried there as well. Ira Robertson donated the 1 acre of land on the Nw section for the Robinson School house. He also on the land I believe about 160 acres behind the school house. I was told that his house sat actually right there on the creek that runs up through there. I believe there is a retired sheriff that lives there where his house was. Any info to get in contact with the land owners, pictures or anybody connected with the Robinson school house would mean alot.

Janeway family

Looking for any info on Jesse Janeway that married Mary e Copeland. I do know from reports that Jesse's house sat on the opposite side of the street from the Robinson School house. I would like to get any info on this family, pictures or where abouts of the old homestead there. They are also buried there in Old Robinson Cemetery.

Daniel family

Looking for any info on James M Daniel married to Mary (Molly) Ball. James Daniel's house actually was across the river of Ira Robertson next to the bridge going across which I believe is Douglas st. James and Molly are also buried in Old Robinson cemetery. There use to be also a two story old house that sat up thereon the hill next to big tree there next to the bridge. Anybody that might have old pics of the house would be great. I do know it was torn down abt 1995.

Any info related to these families or areas would mean alot. Thanks Larry

My dad was born in 1929 and thats about all i know about the JANEWAY family. All my relatives are passed on now and im 46 years old and wonder if any Janeways out there are my family. Especially any Cherokees.please help if you can, or contact me and i will try and give you as much info as i can find out. thank you,Richard Mark Janeway.

Sorry they are not the same, my Ola was married to Lum until he died or at least 1924. Her second husband was from AR but was living in CA, they met through mutual family friends. After they were married she moved to Chowchilla, Ca. All I know is that everyone used to call her second husband Mr. Johns. But no one knows if this was his last or first name. I am still trying to find record of the second marriage. Thanks for the info though.
