On my Grandfather's Declaration of Intention in 1920 he wrote is last foreign residence was Wierbendorf, Hungary. This sounds more like an Austrian name. He parents lived in Lodos, Hungary and/or Litzeldorf, Austria. My Great-Grandparents left for America and both my Grandfather and his sister behind. Does anyone know about Wierbendorf or could offer some other help.

Thank,

Ev Janish/Janisch

Not much info in our history book, but apparently Bolt Janish also farmed, was a teacher, worked in a creamery and had a small store in Eden. Lewis farmed with his Dad and married Leona Winder of Chisholm, Minn. William joined the U.S. army and was killed on a motorcycle in California. Bolt had two stepdaughters. Ilena (Benan)married Joe Lafond of Wash. State, but Ellen Benan never wed.

Helena Janisch's marriage license # is 5-138 dated 8/17/1856 in Ozaukee County Wisconsin. you could order a copy from the Register of Deeds there. good luck with your search!!

I have a somewhat obscure connection.

My great grandmother Mary Offer Hoffmann lived with or took care of Theodore (it was reported in our family history they were married, but have never been able to prove that). This was around 1912-1915 in the town of Maine, Marathon County. Not sure how this fits into the family history on your end.

If it does let me know and I will fill you in on what I know.

I don't have any pictures either.

Janet - what did you find out when you went to Port Washington?

PS Now I wish I had that Merkle Dairy bottle!!

Oh a picture would be sooo neat. Can you scan it? I was just hunting for information on them in the census records. Lena had at least 9 children but I know only of Mary E and Fanny M. Is it true that Lena & Gregor divorced and Lena remarried John Small? Are they all buried in Spooner Wisconsin? I often go by that area and would love to "look them up" so-to-speak.

Janish Relatives

I am interested in learning more about the Janish Family, from (Theodore & Mary), My great-grand parents. They had 9 or 10 children, 4 died as children , 6 lived. I live near Joseph and I take him dinners and help him out. I would really like to know if anyone knows the date of birth for Ralph, he was one of the children that died, & I would like to have a head stone placed. I cannot get info from county, or church from the baptism records. County will let me look up death certificate, but I allready know that date.
the family I am interested in , the childrens names are, Ted,Frank,Lawrence. Melvin,Harry.Joseph. My Great Grand Father, Theodore married Mary Wegienka. Thank-you very much.
Diane Hamilton (Harden)
PrincisDi@aol.com

Hi Janet! We've spoken before about the Merkle family and determined that we were apart of the same family. Who are the two Gregor Janisch's that you have in your family tree? I have one that I know of, Gregor Janisch was Helena Janisch's father and Helena married Anton Merkle in Port Washington, WI in Aug 1856. I recently received their marriage certificate and it indicates that one of the witnesses was Gregor Janisch. But I'm not sure if that was her father or perhaps a brother. I don't know if her parents came to the USA or not. Do you?
