My name is Val Jansen. I am looking for the ancestry of
my great-grandfather, Matthew Jansen. He was born 10 Feb. 1834 in either Limburg or Gelderland Province, Netherlands.
I have LDS information that his father was Henricus Jansen, born about 1769.
Do you have any other information about Henricus Jansen? His wife may either be Catharina (married 16 June 1811) or
Johanna Van Clock. His parents may be Diak Jansen and Gerada Jansen. Henricus may have used his wife's surname of Jansen; his surname was Koppers.

I found your old message and thought I would check to see if you had learned anything about your Jansen's in NYC. I have a bad stumbling block in my Jansen line. Our Grandfather was born in Brooklyn, NYC about 1894 to parents who came from Sweden. Within less than 10 years, he was orphaned and placed into an orphan facility under questionable circumstances that he would not speak of the rest of his life. He did indicate that he changed his name but would not say from what or when. We have always assumed he changed it from Johannson or some variation. He went by Herbert Jansen, married Beatrice Gifford and lived in NYS until he died in 1966. His application for a Social Security number was processed when he was 48 years old and only lists his father's name as William Jansen with mother unknown. I have not been able to find him in any census, however, there is a Herbert Jansen listed in the 1920 census for Brooklyn living in a household of William Wernig as a cousin. The age or place of parents birth doesn't match but it's a possibility. Some first names that have been passed down to his descendants that may be relevant in idenifying his parents are: Axel, Adolph and Astrid. I have searched listings of NYC area orphanage rosters for 1900 that are posted online with no luck and the 1905 state census is not available to search. Would anybody possibly have any pertinent information that may be helpful???

first i find it amazing that we all wind up with the same last name arent connected in any discernible way.

OK my Jansen's were from Sweden I believe the original name was Johannson (or something similar) but was changed so the story goes by my Great-grandfather John to make it sound more "american" - John was married to a Anna Piejefsky(sp?), who was Finnish, they had I think 4 sons 1 daughter(Charlotte) My grandfather was Charles, 2 of the brothers names were Arthur Gottfried. Im pretty sure by the late 1920's they were all up in the Bronx - sound familiar to any1? Suppose to be cousins by the dozens then some out there but Ive yet to find a one!!

My granfather and grandparents lived up in Phlox Wi, trading with Native Americans, running a store in that area. They may have been fur traders, and possible French Canadian.

Mose married my maternal Grandmother Clara K. Wege who was born in Appleton, WI to a shoemaker, Fred Wege. They moved to Antigo, where she meet my grandfather. They married around 1903. Their youngest daughter Jeanne, was my mother.

Anton had, at least, two brothers. Rumors were they went to Holland. We know nothing more of them. His first son was an attorney and stayed in Cincinnati when the family went further west to Illinois and Missouri.

Garrett Jansen/Janssen

My research has found that our Johnson name was originally Jansen/Janssen, I have found variations on the name, on the same document even.

Garrett Jansen came over from Germany with his two sons, John and George (my G-grandfather) 1862-1865; story has it there was another child, maybe a twin that died on the voyage. From John's Obit it was stated John's mother had died many years before in Germany. Garrett remarried ??? and another child Harm was born. George was born, 1856, married Anna Brockman, (1884) Nokomis, IL; Harm - 1865? married Mary Hackman(n) from the Mt. Olive, IL. Records indicate that they moved to Christian CO, around 1878; records indicate they came to the US severaly years before that, trying to find where they might have lived before moving to Christian County, IL. (maybe Mt. Olive area) or anything else about the family. Mary

I am researching the JANSEN-family of South Africa.
The complete history of the JANSEN Progenitor who
emigrated from Germany to South Africa in 1752 can be
read on

www.Jansenfamilie.co.uk

I am interested in your branch of the family and would
like to link you to the main JANSEN family register.
In order to do this I would require some dates and
exact names of the oldest members of your family that
can be identified.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.
FREDERIK JANSEN
Researching JANSEN, VENTER, BREYTENBACH, DOUGLAS
