Hi,
I just found this note about Sokasits in answer to a query from Heather in 2007. I am now looking for family information for Heather and her husband who is a Sokasits. The ancestor is Rudolph Sokasitsborn about 1885 in Austria, living in Passaic, N.J. in 1930. You mentioned that NJ Soksits "are cousins one way or the other". I would be very interested in learning more about the family so I can pass it on to Heather and her family. Thanks for your assistance.
Karen
Hi Lauren,
Janusewski is from my maternal grandfathers last name, I think. I knew him be Janus, but when one of the relatives died, they discovered the longer name in his birth cert. They lived in northern Indiana/Illinois areas. My mother was born in Chicago. I remember something about a great Aunt Torie(Victoria), I think she was his sister. My mom said that she knew he came from a big family but they didn't associate much. Let me know if I can help any more. Good luck and have fun, Cherie

My maternal grandmother was Anna Janosch. She was born March 3, 1895 in Jennersdorf, Austria in the Burgenland area. She married Josef Pohnstingl in Jennersdorf and came to the US on December 11, 1923. In the US, her family for some reason then began using the spelling Janesch. She died in Coopersburg, Pa (outside of Allentown) August 13, 1967. She had 11 children, one of whom is my mother Margaret.
I have seen lots of spellings of what are probably the same family name.
Could we be somehow related? That would be interesting.

It's been five years since this query was posted and I don't know if Cheryl has retained her original e-mail address. If she has, Ancestry.com will inform her of this response.

If Cheryl can determine her mother's first name and date of birth, from interviewing relatives and/or inspecting her parents' marriage license, she can use a certain search engine which does not require a surname if the d.o.b. is known :

http://www.people-finders.ws

The names and addresses of vital records offices that retain marriage license records are online at :

http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/howto/w2w/w2welcom.htm

Reg Niles

I'm not related to the JANUS family, Nan, but I notice a William JANUS, born Feb. 14, 1890, on the online Social Security Death Index.

He would have filled out an SS-5 form when applying for his card, and it should list his birthplace and names of his parents. If you need those facts, you can purchase a copy of the SS-5 from the Social Security Administration. To do so, click on the following URL, print out the letter, and mail it with the fee to the SSA.

http://ssdi.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi?letter=y&lastn...=

Reg Niles
