DURHAM, NC: Edyth Marilena Janusz Sherck was born on October 15, 1925, in Duncan Falls, Ohio, (Muskingum County) the daughter of John and Gladys Wentz Janusz.
She passed away on February 22, 2012 in Durham, North Carolina.
Edyth married Philip E. Sherck in 1951. She had two daughters, Karen (Michael) and Linda of Durham, NC.; and five grandchildren, Matthew, Christopher, Kara, Mark, Alayna; she is also survived by five siblings, Sarah, John, David, Robert, Richard; and numerous wonderful in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was a graduate and valedictorian from Philo High School, Philo, Ohio and received an academic scholarship for Marietta College, where she earned her BA in education in 2.8 years in 1946.
She began a 31 year teaching career starting at Theodore Roosevelt Junior High School in Zanesville, OHIO, and went on to teach at Holt High School, Sexton High School and Everett High School in Lansing, Michigan.
She taught physical education, English, Drama, and became a guidance counselor after earning a Masters Degree ('65) from Michigan State University.
She directed many school theatrical productions and served several years as the girls' golf coach.
She had been active in many professional, scholastic and social organizations (Beta Sigma Phi, Alpha Psi Omega, Intaglio, American Association of University Women AAUW, Alpha Xi Delta, Stock Club, Walnut Hills Country Club, State of Michigan Committee on Creativity, Doncaster Clothing, and Shady Hollow Country Club.)
After retirement, she and Phil moved to Canton, Ohio, and later to Columbus, OH.
As a "snow bird" she spent much time in Tarpon Springs, FL and The Villages in FL. She continued an active life and always pursued her love of golf, college sports and bridge. She earned a Life Master of Bridge in 1998.
