Not sure if you received a reply. Here is some information that may help.
Isaac and Susannah did marry. They had 3 children only 1 survived. Jerusha Bell (Chid) 1865. Susannah remarried Commodore Perry Mark in Dec 1875. Isaac moved to IL and married Sarah Ann Dickinson Jan 1872 (Bloomington, McLean, Illinois). He died 2-18-1878 of consumption in IL. Chid took the name of her step-father Mack.

My father was Robert Platt Nelson. I do not know who Eldon Platt was. Is the Earl that you are referring to Earl Newcomb? I only know the information that I sent you. It came from the Newcomb family Bible that originally was Platt and Sarah Jaquish Newcomb's. Grandmother (Lessie Angelina Newcomb Nelson) had continued making entries in it after it was given to her.

My parents had contact with Earl's children, but I never met them and have no way of contacting them. I don't recall seeing any of their names in my mom's old address book. I will try to find it and double check. No promises on any success there. I will also dig out the Newcomb Bible and check on the data there.

My direct e-mail address is mdtnels@gmail.com

Have a great day.
Hi Jack, Thanks for the speedy reply. For ten years, we lived in Weiser, ID, which is just across the Snake River from Oregon and about 20 miles from Ontario, OR. Now, we are retired and back at the family ranch 55 miles north of Weiser in the mountains near the small town of Council.

To me, Jaques is very French. I have been told that the name could easily be Scottish. French is much more likely. Grandmother always said that her parents spoke in French when they did not want their children to understand them and that they were both French. Her father, Platt Newcomb, came from a branch of the Newcomb family that for one generation did live in French Canada; however, I also have found on ancestory.com that they, too, immigrated from England.

When the Jaquish book comes out, I will be interested in it.

Thanks, Todd Nelson

I forgot to ask what you did send exactly because now I'm not sure. I found you entry on Rootsweb Family Trees but I only have a birth & death date for Eldon Platt. Was he your father or grandfather? I will go check my file cabinet later today where I store all of my genealogy material and let you know what I find. Did you send me the complete names and dates for Earl & Arlie's children? Do you know Arlie's complete name. I found a Arlie Marie Newcomb in Oregon death dates on Ancestry. I assume it is her. I want to make sure I have this correct. Jack

Todd, Yes, I did get the information you sent and it is entered in my records. Yes, Richard and Cornelius were brothers. There are two branches of the Jaquish family from Delaware county, NY. The publisher in Saskatchewan is working on publishing a correct history on the family. I will be happy to let you know when the book is finished if you want one. Or, I can send you Kathie's email and you can contact her directly. My direct email address is jleaven@wyoming. Keep in touch. Do you live in Oregon? I have forgotten if you told me or not. The Jaques/Jaquish family did emigrate from England but they were originally French. There is a lot more work that needs to be done on that history but I doubt anyone ever will. I think it would be very expensive to have it doene. Jack

Hi Jack, Since we last corresponded, I have found the Jaquish ancestory on ancestory.com and have learned that Richard and Cornelius Jaquish were brothers. The ancestory.com records for Cornelius are incomplete. How does one go about giving them more information on his descendants?

Did the information that I sent you about my great grandmother Sarah Jaquish and her husband and descendants reach you? I obtained it from her family Bible.

My grandmother always insisted that the Jaquish family was French. I now find out that the family immigrated from England. Do you know if there was any connection ever to France through the wives of any of this family?

Take care, Todd Nelson

Todd, I checked my Arthur Jaquish file and found him as the son of Richard Jaquish and Ellen Smith. Arthur has one brother, Louis, and one sister, Jennie. Louis had one daughter, Jessie Mabel, who married Carl Johann Carlson and that family ended up in Spokane and Seattle. Jennie married Dr. John Faucett and they lived in Barron, Jackson Co., Oregon. Jennie died in Ashland, Oregon in 1921. Arthur married Dephline "Della, Lewis in 1893 in Cook Co., Illinois probably in Chicago. In 1900, they are living in Yellowknife, Kankakee, Illinois with two daughters. In 1910, they are living in Ashland, Oregon with four daughters. Arthur died 25 Jan 1918 in Ontario, Oregon. I received an email from a woman there who sent me the date from the records. Their eldest daughter, Verna, married in Ontario, OR in 1916 and they had two children.
Your Sarah A. Jaquish was most likely the daughter of Cornelius Jaquish and Martha Johnson. In the 1870 census, their daughter is listed as Sarah W. Jaquish. She was born about 1849 according to the census. The middle initial is the only thing that is different. Let me know what you think. Jack

I don't know a whole lot about the war my John Jaquish fought in but, Myself along with other family members have traced our John Jaquish's family history and yes he fought in the revolutionary war. I do have information about his pension and such and I do recall having some info on where he fought and with whom he fought with. It would take me a bit to find all that stuff on him but I will look for it in my filing cabinet. He is buried at the Riverside Cemetery, in Bloomville, New York. He is buried right along side of his wife Catherine (Spencer) Jaquish. Let me know if you are still interested.
Kathie
I would like more information on the John Jaquish who you mention as Revolutionary War veteran. Do you know his rank and if he was in the Battle of Monmouth? If so, do you know other battles he was in? Do you know if he was in command of soldiers from New Jersey?

My relative was a Captain in the First Regiment of a Col. Jaquish's Batt. and I am trying to find more war details. I do not know the first name of this Jaquish.

Thank you are any information you can provide.

Hi Nancy,
Thank you so much for responding. I thought that your Catherine Peters might be a long shot, but the Catherine I'm looking for is Catherine Spencer. I have a letter fron the Riverside Cemetery, Bloomvile, NY. It states;that there are two graves side by side with a marble monument over each. One is the grave of John Jaquish Veteran of the Revolutionary War, born in 1752 and died Aug. 3 1845. This is recorded in our cemetery records, also on his monument. Next to his grave is the grave of Catherine Spencer. On her monument the following inscription, Catherine Spencer, wife of John Jaquish, born in 1754 and died Sept. 8, 1842.
Then I have a photo of the tomb stones. I have 12 kids listed to John and Catherine Jaquish; Margaret, John, Dorthea, Joseph, Elizabeth, Henry, David, Mathias, Daniel, Sarah, George and Nathan.I have all their data. Im not sure where my Catherine was born, but she died in Delhi as well as John Jaquish. Let me know what you think.
Kathie
Hello Kathie, It has been a few years since I worked on my Peters line in New Jersey and Fayette Co., PA. My Catherine Jaquish\Jacques was the daughter of Mary Terril Hampton Peters from New Jersey. Catherine is probably the daughter of Mary's first husband Jacob Hampton, but possibly second husband David Peters. However, at the time of Mary's death, Catherine is married to John Jaquish and resides in Fayette Co., PA.

Mary Terrill Hampton Peters Will:

1795	Aug. 2	Will Mary Peters of Brownsville, Fayette Co. Pa. Bequeath to my oldest son by my former husband Jacob Hampton. Daughters Mary Brown, Catherine Jequish, Susannah Blackford, son John Peters, daughter Phebe Peters, youngest son David Peters all that lot of ground situate on the north side of Front Street in the sd town and known in the general plan by Lot no. being conveyed to me by indenture from William Cox.

If this is the family you are researching, I would be interested in exchanging more informaion. You did not mention dates and places so I am not sure we are researching the same family. I am wondering if you are back a generation. What are the dates and where are the tombstones?

hi Nancy,
I am doing a Jaquish Family tree. I have a great deal on John Jaquish, but having a problem with the name of his wife Catherine. I have a photo of their tomb stones which metions her name was Catherine Spencer. I also have a letter from the Riverside Cemetery NJ, nameing Catherine Spencer wife of John Jaquish, the year she was born and her death date. All I can find is John Jaquish and Catherine Wheaton on line. But this Catherine Wheaton has the same birth and death date as my Catherine Spencer, and also the same children as my Catherine Spencer. Im interested in your deed that mentions Catherine. I have a copy of John Jaquishes will, but doesn't mention his wife Catherine probably because she died a couple of years before him.
excitedly waiting your response.
Kathie

For more information on Wealtha Matilda Jaquish you can go to the "tri-country genealogy and history " website. This website is for Tioga and Bradford counties in Pa and Chemung country NY. Just google Tri-county genealogy and search for Wealtha Benson. Note her last name is given as Jaqua but all other information is the same. They have a least one photo of Wealtha posted. Wealtha and Otis are my 3rd Great Grandparents through their son Otis J and his Daughter Wealtha J (Jennie) Benson. Jennie married Francis (Frank) Crumb.

Dear Cyndi, I was checking the Jaquish message board on Rootsweb and saw your posting. I am a Jaquish researcher and this Arthur Jaquish is in my database. Arthur was married Della Lewis in 1893 in Cook Co., Illinois. They had two daughters, Verna and Dorothy, both born in Illinois. That is all I know about them. Now that I know he is buried in Oregon, I will try searching census records and see if I can come up with anything. Do you live in Ontario? Is there an historical society there? I thought I could add to this family is they stayed in the area. Jack Leaven

I am transcribing the Evergreen Cemetary in Ontario, Malheur Co., Oregon and thought I would post pictures of the Pre-1900 headstones for those interested in having them. This is a very large cemetary, there is a possibility there could be other family members buried here after this time period. If you are interested in them, I can look for them specifically.

I am looking for more info on a John Jaquish/Jequish/Jacques who resided in Fayette Co., Penn. in the 1790s thru at least 1810. His wife was Catherine Peters born in New Jersey. I have a deed for the buying and selling of land in Brownsville in the 1790s. His wife Catherine Jequish is named in his mother-in-law's will. Who are their children and where did they go?
I am repling to your post as most likely the notice will be sent to you and posted to the boards. As you say, you don't visit that often.

I am chasing a group of Joseph, Joseph and John Jaquish families. My wife's Nellie (Nettie and Arenella) Jaquish born abt 1865 PA to Joseph B Jaquish, b abt 1827 and Adeline (?) b. abt 1848 in 1870 census Covington Twp, Tioga Co., NY. Adeline died before the 1880 census when this group was in Fillmore Co MN. Nellie married Arther E Hall in Fillmore Co MN on 8 Nov 1884 and JB Jaquish was the witness on the certificate.

Maybe sister Phoebe and husband, William Strong were followed to MN by the JB family

1860 census I find JB with Joseph and Clarissa and probably JB's son Oliver 8 at 888/888 HH in Covington Twp. Next door is most likely Horace Jaquish and wife Mary , but listed as HS and ME Jaquish. The Horace and Mary family is in NC in the 1870 census, his name is shown a Orris249/249 Swift Creek Twp, Wake Co. NC. Must have gone there on a "kiss and a promise"

One does not get a break like the 1850 and 1860 census for the Joseph (1788) and Clarissa (Renolds) Jaquish family very often, with Joseph B in the HH in both censuses. Does anyone have the marriage data for Joeeph B Jaquish? Both marriages and the births were most likely in Tioga Co, Covington Twp.

Apparently the Joseph Jaquish b. abt 1788 is the son of John Jaquish and Catharine Wheaton. Joseph 1788 is in the 1840 census in Covington, Tioga Co., PA John and Joseph Jaquish can also be found in the 1820 census Kortright Twp, Delaware Co., NY

Jack Dole

Dear Cindy, I have seen your email before but I'm unfamiliar with Wealthy Jaquish. There is a quite extensive Jaquish family in Tioga Co., PA. They are descended from Joseph Jaquish and Clarissa Reynolds. Joseph came from Delaware Co., NY where he was raised.
A woman by the name of Joan Keough of Boise, ID has an even more extensive database than I do and she is in the process of typing up the manuscript of the John Jaquish and Catherine Spencer descendants. Her address is 6687 W. Trowbridge St Boise, ID 83704-6305. Her phone is 208-853-2832. You will either have to write her or call as she does not have email. She is really death on the internet. She has had many problems. Good luck and do keep in touch as you never know if I will come across something in my research. Do you have much on the Benson family? Maybe that's the way to go.
I know it's been more than 2 years since you posted this, but I just spotted it. I have a Jaquish in my family. Wealthy Matilda Jacquish, born 3 Jan 1815 in VT or PA, or even possibly NY. She married Otis Benson in 1834 and she died in 1877 in Tioga County, PA. I have no parents for her. Does she fit into your Jaquish line anywhere? It seems such an unusual name and that it would be easy to connect her, but I can't. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Cindy Duffek

Donna:

Just spotted your reply. Don't know if I actually responded several years ago. Sure hope I did, because this is definately my family. I knew Uncle Bill, Aunt Bess and Aunt Luella. All are buried in Somerville, NJ.

Dan Jacquish

Any idea where Massaker was from? I'm getting more and more into the possibility that the PA group is from my family.

Roseann:

Though I do not have a listing for Sarah Jacquish who married a Samuel Beam, I have no doubt that your Sarah is related.

I have a Sarah Jaquish, born about 1844. If this matches your date, then she is in fact the daughter of David Jaquish and Margarett Apgar, born about 1844. If this is correct, then she had a brother, David W. Jaquish who had a daughter (thereby Sarah's neice) named Edna B. Jaquish, born about 1873. Sarah also had an older sister named Mary A. Jaquish, born about 1832, who married a George Beam on Nov. 13, 1852 in the German Valley Luthern Church. Mary died June 13, 1901 in Washington Twp. They had a daughter named Sophia Beam born about 1876.

This would mean that two of David Jaquish' daughters married Beams. That was not uncommon in those days.

I have been able to identify David's parents as Moses and "Ann" Jaques of Tewksbury via a copy of David's death record. I have not been able to positively identify this Moses and "Ann", but I believe them to be Moses and Hannah Islinton, married in Westfield, NJ. If this is the case, then we have the family history back to 1066 and the Battle of Hastings in England. If not, then we definately have the right family, in the right area, at the right time, but Moses was a common name in the family as was David and John.

Get me whatever info you have and the source, so I can add it to my records. I'm moving to Florida next week, but will maintain the email address.

Hope this helped.

Dan J.
