My direct ancestors are actually MacGregors from Morven in Argyll. However in 1874 Mary Campbell MacGregor married James Jarvie in Blythswood Glasgow. Family legend has it that Mary had been jilted by her Highland love and said she'd marry the first man who asked her. The first man was James - he was a Butler in the house where she was in service. They had five children and both lived to great old age. However I can't trace much about James. On the wedding certificate his parents are listed as John Jarvie and Caroline Louis. I cannot find any trace of them or of James' birth in the Scottish records and wonder if they were in America or elsewhere. According to the wedding certificate both John and Caroline were dead by 1874. I believe James was born between 1846 and 48. If anybody knows anything about this family I would be most grateful to hear. I do know a fair bit about James and Mary's decendents. Many thanks.
