Parents are possibly John D. Jarvis and Frances Unknown. The family lived in Lancaster County, SC for a while. Siblings include brothers John, Jackson and Seaborn and a sister Unkown.

Moved to Stewart County, Georgia between 1833-1835, then to Covington County, Alabama before 1850, to Marion County, Alabama before 1860 and to Madison County, Florida before 1880.
