Classification: Query
Surnames: Jaskot, Pocialik
My maternal grandmother, Marya Jaskot, was from Grabowka, Poland. This is W of Krasnik, E of Natalin. She immigrated with 4 children, Bernice, Helen, Sofia, John, in 1913. She was married to John Pocialik (of Zastocze) in Poland, circa 1900. They first went to Utica, NY, then to Detroit, MI, then to Ypsilanti, MI, where they owned a farm.
Marya (Jaskot) Pocialik reported at Ellis Island that her next of kin in Poland was an uncle, Wojciech Jaskot in Grabowka. I was told her mother's name was Katherine or Katarzyna. I know that many years later, her nephew Peter Jaskot (married to Barbara & had 2 girls) lived in or near Windsor, Ontario. I believe she also had another (I thnk) nephew (cannot recall name) who lived on Asbury Park St in Detroit, I think he had 3 sons.
Most Polish named their kids after their own siblings or other relatives. Marya Jaskot Pocialik named her kids: John, Bronislawa/Bernice, Helen, Sofia, Antoinette, Josefa/Josephine (my mom), Edward, Rosalia. Of course these are 'Americanized' spellings....
