This is a response to messages to the Raines Board over seven years ago. I am just beginning to develop an interest in my ancestry.
I am the daughter of Arnetta Glenn and Eulice Raines. Eulice is the son of Laura Evans and Norman Raines. I believe that Norman was the son of Amelia ____and Allen Raines and that Allen was born in 1797 and came to White Oak, N.C. from Mercer County, KY.

My father, Eulice had a son out of wedlock prior to marrying my mother. Therefore, he is my oldest brother. I understand that he died a few years ago. If anyone knows his name and his mother's name, I would like to include them in my tree.

Hi!
I am a Javens who grew up in Beaver Co. I am in the Daughters of the American Revolution lineage society, and I am interested in finding info about the 2 brothers who came with Pierre Javin, who fought in the Revolutionary War with Lafayette. I have traced my father's line through George Washington Javens, Sr., and I think G.W's father was Joseph and Joseph's father was John, born in 1767. I have been doing research since 1998, so I have other info on other Javens as well that I will be glad to share with you. Thanks for responding.
Judy

Harry Javins, January, 1897, Jacksonville, Fla.

Transcribed from The Florida Times-Union
Jacksonville, Fla
Saturday, January 2, 1897
Pg 5 / Col 2
www.newspaperabstracts.com

Harry Javins Disappears.

And So Does One of Clark’s Bicycles and Cash.

Harry A. Javins, who has been in charge of the bicycle department of the George W. Clark company, has disappeared and so has one of Mr. Clark’s bicycles and $100 in cash.
Mr. Clark said yesterday that he sent Javins to Daytona lately to deliver several Clark wheels and make collections. The wheels were all delivered and the collections made. In a short while he began to find there was some trouble in the accounts and sent his bookkeeper, Mr. Denny, to check up. As soon as Mr. Denny started at this work Javins disappeared and a Clark bicycle, enameled white with the number 5446 under the seat, also disappeared.
This happened last Thursday and Mr. Clark says he has ascertained that Javins left here the same day and checked the bicycle to Griffin, Ga. The bookkeeper found that Javins had collected $100 and carried it off with him.
Harry Javins is a young man, light complexioned, smooth face, 5 feet 6 inches high and weights about 130 pounds. His relatives live in Baltimore.

Re: Javins in Fairfax VA

Hi Linda

Thanks for the information. Ironically, before moving to Florida 13 years ago, I lived smack in the middle of Rose Hill.
I accidentally found a cousin on the various message boards that I visit (although I have to admit I haven't been as active since our National Tragedy in September, work got busier, not to mention the holidays seemed to just creep up suddenly), her name is Ethel. Her father was Laurence Javins and at one time owned some land in Franconia. It turns out that her father is the nephew of my Grandfather Frank Javins and his parents are Laura and John Javins both of whom are buried at Sharon Chapel. Rose Hill is actually in the middle of Franconia, sandwiched in between Franconia Road and Telegraph Road. I'm not sure how far the boundries of Franconia extended in the 1800's, however, today it wouldn't be possible to view Ft. Washington from Franconia, although it can be viewed clearly from the GW (George Washington) Parkway, which runs parallel to the Potomac River, and some areas of Ft. Hunt, located just off of the Parkway, both are just south of Olde Towne Alexandria. Market Alley is now referred to as Market Square, located in front of the old City Hall building facing King Street.

Thanks again for the information, I will definately look into this book.
