Mary

just curious, what sort of spelling is or how do you pronounce Je'Nca? Should it be Jenc'a ?
Do not overlook the Hungarian/Magyar spelling for Jenc'a which would be Jencsa and still pronounced the same way as Yencha in English.

JAVORSKY and JENC'A in existance in Slovak Republic.
www.zoznamst.sk

Did you locate a name of a town for either of them?

Curious, did Mary Jenca have a brother?

I am looking for information on Ignatz Je'Nca b. circa 1866 in Hungary immigrated in 1901 to Pennsylvania. His wifes name was Susan _______

surname variations: Yencha-Yenshaw. Some of their great-grandchildren have the surname Yenshaw.

Thanks for anything you might have, or just your time for reading! Good Luck to you!

Hi Mary,
My grandmother's name was Mary Jenca. Pronounced with accent on the first syllable. The town they were from was Presov, Slovakia. I have been there and been in contact with her brother Andrew's family. It would be curious if there was a connection somewhere. As I understand it, at the time (1900-1913) most people considered themselves more or less Hungarian due to the influence of the Austro/Hungarian empire at the time. when my grandmother was in school they only spoke Slovak at home. Hungarian was the language in school. Adios for now, Andy

Hi Mary,
Thanks for the reply. Sadly, I don't believe there is a connection. Mary was born over here in the U.S. in 1900 (her parents were Paul and Theresa) but the family moved back to Slovakia. I know she had at least one brother Andrew, (Andre) and at least one sister Anna. Mary and Anna both returned back to the U.S. between 1918 and 1925.
Good luck in your search and thanks again for the query!
Andy
