Wallace "Wally" Jaymes, 78, St. George, died Sept. 2 at Wamego City Hospital in Wamego.
He was born March 18, 1925 at Wakefield, the son of Harry and Annie (Steffen) Jaymes.
He grew up in the Wakefield Community. He spent most of his life around Manhattan and Wamego. He worked for Acme Towel Service of Manhattan and was a taxi driver, and a police officer for the City of Wamego. He was a farmer and retired from the Wamego Coop in 1987.
He was a member of the St. George United Methodist Church.
He married LaFern Jone Dodds on May 25, 1945 in Clay Center. She preceded him in death on May 2, 1988. He was also preceded in death by one son, Jerry "Pete" Jaymes on Feb. 24, 1991. He married Isla Mae Moore on June 17, 1989, in Hawaii.
Survivors include his wife, Isla Mae Jaymes of the home in St. George; two sons, Gary Jaymes, Cottonwood Falls and Larry Jaymes and wife, Cheryl, Manhattan; two daughters, Kathy Scofield and husband, Bruce, Topeka and LaVona Lafferty and husband, Lyle, Rossville; four step children, Floyd Moehlman, Pamona, Melvin Moehlman, Wellington, Rita Steward, Watauga, Texas, Glen Mallam, Wakefield; 19 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Holmes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley with Rev. Roger O. Shanks officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Wakefield. Respect calls may be made any time Thursday or Friday at the Holmes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday.
A memorial has been established for the St. George United Methodist Church.
