hi - this is about 'Irish' Jeffers - no American or Canadian connections that I am aware of at this time)

I have x 2 Elizabeth Jeffers' in my line and I am still seeking information on this side of the Jeffers family.

The first, was Elizabeth Ellison Park who married G-grandfather in 1857 in UK and the second Mrs Richard Jeffers was also an Elizabeth.

This time an Elizabeth Walker. They married in 1878.

Does this tie in/ up with any of your information.

Haerae Rae

Philippa [ W J] Field, nee Jeffers.

Maybe you could be same!!

I have ascertained that my G-Grandfather was Richard Jefferts. Born abt. 1835. Died in Sudbury, england 1919.

He had 2 brothers, Arthur and "Bert" - ? Albert or more likely Robert.

From information now documented I have unraveled an interesting and intricate family history!

Can we assist each other at all?

Haerae Rae

Philippa [W J] Field, nee Jeffers.
My gr grandfather was Roy J. Zollars. His mother was Belle H. Jeffers and father was Marshall Zollars. Belle was the daughter of John and Emily Jeffers of Ohio.

Roy's death certificate noted his parents but for Belle, it noted Belle Pomroy. I couldn't find the connection until I read your message and you said they were from Pomroy. It was a place not a name!

Roy married Lillian(Stevens) Zollars and lived in Buffalo, New York for some time. He died in an industrial accident in 1910 and had three children. Isabelle, Irene and Leroy. Isabelle was my grandmother. I would be glad to give you more information if you feel we are related. If you have found anything new, please let me know.

Were you ever able to find this family? I have been looking for Belle Jeffers which is the mother of my gg grandfather (I think) His death certificate notes his father was Marshall Zollars but mother was Belle Pomroy of Ohio. When I look up Marshall, I find him married to Belle Jeffers. Not sure why death cert notes her as Pomroy.

I'm new at this(computer) so bear with me. There is an Albert Berry Jeffers in my notes who is a brother to my great grandfather. He was born on Mar.5 1862 and died on June 30 1929. Berry is my maiden name so this is unusual I think. He had 8 brothers and 3 sisters. My grandfather was Jesse Price Jeffers and his father was Jesse A. Jeffers. His father was Leroy Jeffers. I have lots of info on the Jeffers but I don't have much on the Berrys. I'm looking specifically for a William SAKER Berry. He went by SAKER.

Kia ora - I have replied to your posting twice since you responded but 'the system' does not want to accept. Perhaps it is because I do not subscribe to Ancestry.

Can you please mail me direct at philippajfield@xtra.co.nz as I have an update for you on the person you send me info on. Sadly he is not G-G-Grandfather Robert Jeffers but I do have traces on the Robert you sent me. There are also some coincidences with 'your' Robert and with my side of the Jeffers line. These seem to me to be too close to be coincidental. There must be a linkage somewhere.

Maybe the information I have will assist someone else though.

Many thanks for replying - it was very kind of you.

haerae Rae

Philippa

Kia ora from New Zealand.

I am G-G-Grand daughter of Robert Jeffers, Ireland. B c 1795+ but I do know he died 1845.

I don't know his parents names. Nor his wife or any of his siblings or what his children's names were for that matter.

Robert did have at least one son though who was my G-Grandfather Richard. Richard was born c 1835.

Richard married Elizabeth Park in 1857 in Bristol.

Richard & Elizabeth had 6 children.
Richard, Francis Gertrude, Agnes E, Herbert George, Edward and Earnest Haynes.

G-grandfather Richard died in Sudbury 1919. He must have moved to England at some stage to be near my Grandfather, Ernest Haynes. I have Richard's death certificate and it is signed off by his son, my Grandfather.

Ernest's (as he became) middle name was Haynes as Grandfather and I do not know where the name 'Haynes' is derived from.

Both my Uncle (a Robert also) and my father Hubert had the middle name of Haynes.

I have given it to my son also now even though I am not too sure of the significance.

If any of this ties in with information you have or been given in your search please do contact me. I myself am running out of time now and it is too hard after 6 years of searching to keep hitting brick walls. However I do believe the Jeffers's were well known for their determination [ should that read stubborness?]

Regards

Philippa W J Field [nee Jeffers]

Kia ora - I too am seeking information on Irish, Cork jeffers's. Specifically Robert Jeffers (my G-G-Grandfather) born abt 1795 + .

Robert Jeffers, built a beautiful house in Inishannon, County Cork called Coolculitha House. It is now on the Irish Heritage Protected Houses list. The organisation can not (or are unwilling to) assist me with any information re 'who built it'......

Robert may have had brothers I do not know. I really know nothing about him except that he died in 1845.

How many children G-G-grandfather Robert had I do not know either, but there was certainly one son, Richard. My G-Grandfather.
Born 1835
Married 1857.
Died 1919.
I have obtained certificates relating to the last 2 events.

Richard Jeffers, married Elizabeth Park in 1857.
Richard and Elizabeth had a son called Edward, born around the date in your posting.
There was also a Richard,
Agnes E.,
Francis Gertrude,
George,
Herbert
Earnest Haynes, my Grandfather.

This information was obtained through UK cencus information.

Does this tie in with any of your side of the family?

I have drawn a brick wall.
Even though I obtained G-Grandfather Richard's marriage certificate and his death certificate (1919), signed off upon by my Grandfather, the documents do not contain the detail as do today's forms. Neither assisted me in tracing the Robert H Jeffers I want desparately to find information on.

There is on the British Coast Guards web site of personnel in 1841 a recording of a Robert Jeffers, born c 1801.
His wife's name is given as 'Jane'.
There were 3 children born in Ireland.
One was a Richard born 1835 - ? my G-Grandfather.
Subsequently 3 further children were born in SSX.

The dates as given do tie in with the Robert I am trying to trace but even with this information can I go any further.

If you are able to can shed any light on the tracings so far from your researchings and would share with me , I would love to hear from you.

Haerae Ra

Philippa [nee Jeffers, daughter of Hubert Haynes Jeffers)

My Robert Jeffers came from Cork, Ireland c.1817 to Ontario, Canada via way of N.S. (so I believe). All but one child was born in Ireland, the youngest was born in Ontario.
My g.g.grandfather, William Wellington Jeffers was born c 1814 apparently after an uncle who fought in the Napoleonic war. I have all the siblings of William Wellington, all who came to Canada with their father (Robert) and mother (Nancy (aka Ann) Maurice).

Hi,
My gg grandfather, Richard was married in 1848 in Waterford to Catherine Warren. His brother and sister were married in that same year. Their name in the marriage records is spelled JEFFARES. This was a common surname in Waterford and Wexford counties. His son, Samuel emigrated to the US in 1884 and settled in Staten Island, NY. Some of his descendants still resides there to this day. Sorry I couldn't help you with more information.

The first one to come over they claim was born in wales. Oddly the other day i found a canadian listing for my grandma who lived in canada for a while and she listed her family as being Welch. She must have known who the first settler in the USA was or had a good idea.

Not related. Mine were here in the USA before 1750 I think. I have my great great great grandfather

Joseph Jeffers
b.1742

Death
in Preston City, New London, Connecticut, USA

Joseph's wife died in 1766 and remarried 1767. He had a son in 1767 and then he and his wife disappear. I have found three of the five children and decendants but that's it. One of Joseph's children was Joseph my great great grandfather. He was sent to live with a Col Agur in Westfield Mass at the age of around five. Joseph may have been wrong about how old he was. At any rate I think they were in the USA quite early if the family tale is correct.

That is my aunt's name. At least the Margaret Jeffers part, but the Omega sounds eerily familar from years past. My dad called her that long ago, but I thought it was just a nickname to tease her. She lived in Vicksburg and recently passed away. Im not sure what else I could pass along to you. Mom and Dad divorced when I was very young and I was never really close to his side of the family.

Kia ora John - I am seeking information on a Robert jeffers (my G-G-Grandfather) born abt 1795 + .

Robert Jeffers, built a beautiful house in inishannon, County Cork called Coolculitha House. It is now on the Irish Heritage Protected Houses list. The organisation can not (or are unwilling to) assist me with any information re 'who built it'......

Robert may have had brothers I do not know.

Possibly Innishannon? born c 1795+ Died 1845?

I don't know how many children he had but he had one son, Richard who was my G-grandfather. He had 6 children. Agnes E, Richard, Edward George, Francis Getrude and Earnest haynes. Earnest was my Grandfather.

Deafness runs in my side of the family.

Dear Debbie - I came across your mail when 'surfing' as it were. I am Jeffers, Irish, County Cork side.

The only 2 things that I can think of in terms of 'testing' is (1) for Haemachromatosis. Excess Iron levels in the blood (High Ferritin which can lead to liver damage) and (2) deafness.

This is on my side of the family. Grandfather, Earnest Haynes was deaf, also my father Hubert haynes and now me. I have both haemachromatosis and lost 80% of my hearing.

I still retain my sense of humour though!!!

Does this help - have you come across any other jeffers's with Deafness?

I do hope to hear from you.
Leona - Kia ora again.

I have re-read your original posting (sorry I do read & respond to many who appear to be along same 'family' lines as it were and did not 'attach the importance' of your message)

Some time ago, when I began this lengthy tracing process I heard from a lady who advised that at some stage the Jeffers family 'split' into 2 factions. One was the Catholic side and the other the Protestant. Thus it was in those days, not too much different to now I guess!

'My' side is the Proddie side and is probably why I can't find too mauch information about G-G-grandfather Robert H. No records were kept prior to 1865 and a lot of information was apparently lost on the Irish side in a fire in Dublin 1922. Those who went Stateside appear to be earier to track.

HOWEVER!! Judge Jefferys (the hanging judge) purchased Blarney Castle and the name Jeffers is derived from that the name Jefferys - that side of the family. There was a Lady jeffers of Blarney Castle apparently so if there is a connection on your side to the Hanging judge then eons ago we might have some family roots.

I am about to try to trace some of my G-grandfather's children who may have been born in UK - it is a long shot and an expensive pastime from this far away in NZ!

I don't think this will help you much - do you have heridarary deafness on your side of the family? if so, then this IS A CONNECTION.

Once again haerae Ra and Good Luck.

Philippa [nee Jeffers]

Kia ora John - i have been looking for Irish 'Jeffers's' for some 5 or 6 years now. Drawn blank every which way. This in spite of having a death certificate for a Richard jeffers, 1919 and his marriage certificate 1857.

I am seeking G-G-G-grandfather, Robert H Jeffers.

So have gone lateral as it were! Robert had brother, many. The youngest was a John Jeffers who must have been born c 1832. There were brothers, a William, a Robert, an Edward and an Ellen.

My father was Hubert Haynes Jeffers.
As his daughter, I am of course last of line.

If the above ring 'any bells' or you are aware of anywhere I might go to find anything further please feel free to contact me at philippajfield@xtra.co.nz

I do believe that there is a connection to the Blarney Castle, Judge Jeffreys etc., My grandfather spoke often of this!

Haerae Ra

Pippa
kia Ora Linda

I am a Jeffers, last of line because I am a daughter! so "am searching".

Briefly Great-Great grandfather was a Robert Jeffers. Born, in or near Cork c 1790?? he died 1845 as I have a record of this.

Children?? unknown number but there was one son.
A Richard Jeffers. Lived in Innishannon, County Cork. Born c 1834 - 1836. Died in England 1919.

Richard married an Elizabeth Park.
They had 6 children.

One was my grandfather, Earnest Haynes Jeffers.
He married a Winifred R Pamplin.
They had 2 sons.
Robert Haynes and Hubert Haynes.

Hubert Haynes was my father.

If there is a connection I would be delighted to hear from you. I have been searching for over 5 years and at every turn drawn a blank or hit a brick wall.

Although I am no longer "Jeffers" I have continued what seems to be a family conection by calling our son S Haynes Field.

Haere Ra (farewell)

Philippa

[aka as Winifred J Jeffers]
Re: Jeffers from the Irish side
Kia Ora from New Zealand - I hope 'this mail gets through' as I note your post is dated 2002.

I am a Jeffers. Daughter of Hubert Haynes Jeffers, son of Earnest Haynes jeffers. H H Jeffers born 1901.
E H Jefers born 1872.

I am hoping to ascertain the rest of the Jeffers, as in my G grandfather is hopefully a Richard Jeffers born in Ireland abt. 1834 - 1835. I have asked for records from GRO in UK.

I have been looking for nearly 5 years and drawn a blank - brick wall at almost every turn. I hit paydirt though a few weeks back through the 1881 UK census.

I know my Great-Grandfather jeffers was born in a lovely Georgian Mansion in innishannon, County Cork. The house was built by my G G Grandfather, R H Jeffers who died in 1845. A Mrs R H Jeffers lived there during the Famine and I am assuming my G Grandfather was this Richard jeffers. It may be that there are other sons. I do not know.

The only other photograph I have is of three boys / men in a "two up two down" terraced house in the East end of London. I wish I knew what had happened to them.

Please feel free to contact me at philippajfield@xtra.co.nz if this is of any interest. I have lots (tooo many) of photographs of the UK Jeffers family.

I changed my name from Winifred to Philippa many years ago. I don't think I need to expalin.

Haeare Ra (farewell)

Philippa [aka Winifred Jeffers]
Kia Ora from New Zealand

I was chistened Winifred J Jeffers. Seems a coincidence?
I am also in the process of trying to trace my side of the Jeffers family.

My Grand-father was Earnest Haynes, I think my Great-grandfather was a Richard Jeffers. I am in process of getting records from UK GRO. He was born abt. 1834/35 and if it is the right one he died in 1919 in Sudbury UK.
I should have confirmation of all this in the next 2 to 3 weeks.

I have been searching for nearly 5 years and suddenly made a break through.

You could check the rootsuk census 1881 and you may be related to one of the daughters.
There was a Francis, an Agnes and a Gertrude.
The one son was Earnest, my Garandfather.

If you are interested please let me know at philippajfield@xtra.co.nz

I changed my name many years ago.
Haerea Ra

Philippa [aka Winifred Jeffers]

Kia ora and thank you for your reply.

It was a long shot - and yes, I have looked at the jeffares lines also. There were no records apart from Parish / church registers kept in Ireland prior to 1864. Then apparently a fire in Dublin in 1922 destroyed whatever they managed to find.

I have a small lead dating back to what may be my G G Grandfather's (Robert H) - the one I am trying to trace) family. If they were british coast guards that is.

Thank you again - Haerae Ra

Philippa

Well, we may not be able to find a direct connection with my great grandfather, David George, but my brother suffers from Haemachromatosis. However, he is the only one of the seven of us brothers and sisters, and no one in my mother's family of 13 had it either. I do believe he was told it ships a generation, which would have made it my great grandfather's generation to pass it on. No one else in our Jeffers line has this condition, that I have been able to track down, and I've tried all 450 +/- descendants. There are other tumor related conditions prevalent, but no one else with Haemachromatosis.

Great Grandaughter of David George Jeffers (1876-1933) and Elizabeth Julia Magowan (1878 -1940) and GG Grandaughter of Matthew Jeffers (1844-1915) and Elizabeth Bevan (b1848).
