Pam - My 2G Grandfather Walter Jefferson was born 1840 in Eaton, Preble County, Ohio. His father, 3G Grandfather, was Lemuel Jefferson, born 10/8/1816 in Delaware. Lemuel was one of 4 sons born to my 4G Grandfather, Job Jefferson, born Sussex Co DE 01/25/1788. Job was a grandson of Richard Jefferson III.

My biggest mystery is proving which one of Richard's son is my Job's Dad. I have a belief, but no proof. I have tracked all of Richard's heirs and especially the 4 possible dads for my Job (only 4 of them had a son in their house that would have been 12 in 1800 like my Job): Elihu, Job, Warren & John.

Warren is my unproven 5G Grandfather. I started with Job (namesake theory and all) but all of Job Sr.'s kids are accounted for in his will - no son Job. I then tried John since my Job named his first son John, but found a descendant who had well traced this line - no Job. Warren is the only one who still had a son at home Job's age (22) in the 1810 Census. Job married in 1812. And my Job named his fourth son Warren, so for now - without further proof - Warren's my man. I have emailed the Delaware Archives for birth records or marriage records for Job in case they might indicate parentage, but no luck. Perhaps you are right about the Maryland instead of Delaware possibility. If you come across anything on this line, let me know. I'll keep my eyes open for your Walter.
