To Nancy Taylor.
I came across your message from March, 2000 subject: Jeffords in NY. Harmon V. Jeffords was also a great-grandfather of mine. I have seen a book of genealogy written by Folks Huxford (deceased), Waycross, GA that traces Harmon Jeffords (wife: Eurydice Jones, Savannah, GA, Daughter of Daniel Eastwood Jones and Susannah Miller)down as far as my father and his siblings. One of Harmon's sons was Daniel Jackson Jeffords, Sr.. He was a Private in the 50th Volunteer Georgia Infantry Regiment. He later advanced to Lieutenant. On March 4, 1863, he resigned and on April 21, died, (of wounds?). His son Daniel Jackson Jeffords, Jr. was born in 1862. Daniel Jr. was married to Sarah Ann Bennett. Their youngest son was born on September 13, 1892. His name was Daniel Jones Jeffords. My father was Austin K. Jeffords(Born 1926, Adel, GA), his father was Daniel Jones Jeffords. I was born in 1950 in Adel, GA.

I've always been interested in tracing back further into Harmon V. Jeffords' history. Were you able to find out more from your query?

Dan Jeffords
Jacksonville, Florida

I have seen several postings about Jeffords / Jefferds in NY and am hoping someone can help me. My 3rd great-grandfather is Harmon VanRennsaeler Jeffords, born 1799 in NY. He is reported to be the son of Benjamin and Sally Rich Jeffords. Harmon was a captain of a sailing vessel, taught by Steven Rennsaeler. Harmon relocated to GA about 1830. Anyone have info on this line?

I'm not related but I did some research for this family and came up with the following. Hopefully you will be able to sort it out.

I believe this is Maud, living with her widowed mother and siblings in Massac Co. in the 1880 census, although the name is spelled as Jeffers.

IMMEDIATE RELEASE	No. 563-12
July 05, 2012
Airmen Missing from Vietnam War Identified

The Department of Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office (DPMO) announced today that the remains of six servicemen, missing in action from the Vietnam War, were recently identified and are being returned to their families for burial with full military honors.

... Col. Derrell B. Jeffords of Florence, S.C.;. . . will be buried as a group in a single casket representing the entire crew on July 9 in Arlington National Cemetery. On Dec. 24, 1965, the crew was aboard an AC-47D aircraft nicknamed "Spooky" that failed to return from a combat strike mission in southern Laos. After a "mayday" signal was sent, all contact was lost with the crew. Following the crash, two days of search efforts for the aircraft and crew were unsuccessful.

In 1995, a joint United States-Lao People's Democratic Republic (L.P.D.R.) team investigated a crash in Savannakhet Province, Laos. Local villagers recalled seeing a two-propeller aircraft, similar to an AC-47D, crash in December 1965. A local man found aircraft wreckage in a nearby field while farming, and led the team to that location. The team recovered small pieces of aircraft wreckage at that time and recommended further investigative visits.

Joint U.S.-L.P.D.R. investigation and recovery teams re-visited the site four times from 1999 to 2001. They conducted additional interviews with locals, recovered military equipment, and began an excavation. No human remains were recovered, so the excavation was suspended pending additional investigation.

In 2010, joint U.S.-L.P.D.R. recovery teams again excavated the crash site. The team recovered human remains, personal items, and military equipment. Three additional excavations in 2011 recovered additional human remains and evidence.

Scientists from the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command used dental records and circumstantial evidence in the identification of their remains.

For additional information on the Defense Department's mission to account for missing Americans, visit the DPMO website at http://www.dtic.mil/dpmo or call 703-699-1420.

Note: See Link for complete release

http://www.defense.gov/releases/release.aspx?releaseid=15427
__________________________________________
Posted for genealogical purposes only.
Maud Dee Jeffords 1871-1946

I am looking for reliable information to help me trace the parents, siblings and other ancestors of my g-g-grandmother, Maud Dee Jeffords. Maud was born in Metropolis, Ill. and married John F Eley. She died in East St Louis, Ill in 1946. According to her death certificate her parents were William Jefferson and Julia Mitchell, but I am fairly certain that "Jefferson" was an error as her marriage certificate is clear that her surname is Jeffords. Does this information tally with anyone's tree or research?

Thomas Jeffords obit - Jennings Co., IN

I am not related to this person, his obituary appeared in the "100 Years Ago Today" column in the North Vernon (IN) Plain Dealer on 5-3-2010 for 4-27-1910 . I thought it might be of help to someone.

Thomas Jeffords Killed

While performing his usual duties with the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad yesterday afternoon, Thomas Jeffords, one of the city's respected men, was accidentally killed by being struck in the head with a jack pole. He was working with a bridge gang near Cochran, Ind., raising a bridge when the accident occurred.

He had set a ratchet jack on his side of the bridge and had raised it the proper height. He then went to the other side of the pier they were working on to assist a fellow workman to set his jack. In some way it slipped, the pole striking Jeffords just above the eyes crushing his skull, knocking him from the pier onto the rocks some 18 feet below. It is thought his death was caused by the first blow.

The body was brought to this city on No. 3. He leaves a wife and one son. Funeral arrangements have not been made at this time.

Mr. Jeffords was a member of the Knights of Pythias, a Woodman and a member of the B&O relief organization. He carried some insurance in the Woodman organization. He was 50 years of age, and had been employed with the B&O bridge gang for some 30 years. He was a good reliable employee and an excellent husband and father, in all a man that is a credit to any community.

I have a very old picture of a large family, possibly 30 - 40 men, women, and children standing in front of a very old large barn. I have examined it closely and faintly on the back it says "This is the Jeffords Family". It came down to me from a Allan family in Saulte Ste. Marie, Michigan. I sure would like to get this into the right hands, as I know that someone sure would appreciate having it. So if you have any Jeffords ancestors that lived either in Upper Michigan or Canada, and had a marriage into an Allan/Allen Family (or possibly Cottle) please contact me at Judys85@aol.com.
By the way the people are dressed, the picture had to have been taken in the 1800's.

He then married Ann Pray April 15th looks like 1850 on the certificate. Could be wrong on that date. Erza named his first son Elza (his twin's name) and my Jeffords line continues through Elza.

I may have information on the parents of Lovina JEFFORDS. Believe them to be Benjamin JEFFORDS and Sarah RICH. The Sally JEFFORDS buried in the same cemetery with Lovina and Ezra just might be her mother. Am currently collecting information in that area.

Hi there,
I don't have any info on Otis but I do have the very same name as you. I have never seen anyone with my name before and I felt compelled to respond.
My uncle was named Otis Jeffords but i am unsure of his middle name as he died from Cancer when i was very young. I have a feeling though they are all pretty closely related as all of my fathers family is from Florence and worked on the Railroad there and there is a street there named Jeffords street. Some of the relatives are, James Merriman Jeffords, Phillips Maurice Jeffords, Everett Jeffords, Otis Jeffords, Julian Jeffords, Martha Lou Jeffords. My uncle Otis Jeffords is buried in Wilmington North Carolina. If anyone has any info on family related to any of these Jeffords please let me know
jimjeffords@hotmail.com
